* The last scheduled day of spring session is tomorrow. The end of the fiscal year is June 30th. On what date do you think the General Assembly will vote on a budget (complete or partial) that can then be sent to Gov. Rauner?

Maybe by the end of June. K-12 is the key bargaining chip that impacts every district. I don’t think the House or Senate Dems agree to fund K-12 without a full budget deal.

Nothing will happen tomorrow. Maybe they went a K-12 approps bill over in in June, though Rauner’s going to have to throw a bunch of money at CPS for that to happen.
Dems should send SB1 and SB6 over and let the Governor figure it out.

Well Tom, if BVR was interested in anything other than the full and complete decimation of unions in Illinois he could have resonably claimed victories on:
Multiyear property tax freeze
Pension reform
Workman’s comp reform
Senate leader term limits
School funding reform
Criminal justice reform
All done in bipartison fashion with Democrats
But we all know none of that matters if he can’t destroy unions so

The GA will pass a budget during a 2018-2019 lame duck session, and the new governor (please, God) will sign it on January 14, 2019.

September, 2017 for a K-12 partial budget
July, 2018 - another K-12 partial budget
December, 2018 (lame duck) to be presented to the next Governor
As to the reasoning, K-12 school funding appears to be the only budget item Rauner cares about, so that’s all we’ll get as long as he is in office.
Hedging at something like a trillion to one odds, the IGOP finally abandon Rauner and pass a full veto proof budget this July.

I hope Walker is correct. But I have many doubts.
Yet @Morty has a point - “But we all know none of that matters if he can’t destroy unions” and I might add HIGHER EDUCATION as well.
My best guess is that everyone will take the cowards way out and do yet another stopgap, but yet provide full year funding for K-12.
There are no Profiles in Courage in our GA and we have a Governor that will not DoHisJob and who does not care.

He has not done that yet so probably not even that. The state is behind $1 billion for schools this year and owes from previous years.

Agreeing with quite a few comments that K-12 funding will be passed so that schools can open in August.
The real pressure for a full budget will only come when this issue is tied with the rest and not treated as a sacred cow that gets preferential treatment.

People crack me up. There hasn’t been a BALANCE BUDGET in 20 years. Yet make Rauner the scapegoat for holding up a passed budget the past two years. Budgets that overspend and NEVER REFORM. The state has underfunded report deficits of 120BLN which are more toward 150BLN. None which is much of Rauner doing. Credit ratings that crashed during the Quinn era that cost the state a additional 365mln a year. Go back and bury your heads in the sand as the democrat controlled house and senate run the state into the ground.

January of 2019 at the earliest ,if Rauner loses election (Full budget).
July to August 2017 for “stopgap”.
January 2013 if Rauner loses, after his 2nd term as governor (Full budget).

Sadly I see nothing other than stopgaps or patches until the election of Nov 2018.
But there will need to be a few stopgaps/patches to make it through this time.

The General Assembly will vote on a budgetary “stopgap” hybrid with full budget framing, but will be just window dressing to the actual items that, when it gets to the Governor, be the stopgap that will keep the state from purposeful destruction, to just passive disarray and pain, but afloat.
This will happen on June 29th…
