It should read “annual” press conference.

Do it on the steps of the Capitol Ike last year.
Comment by 360 Degree Turnaround Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 4:17 pm
Maybe they will once again have the all-white GOP GA members standing behind them on stairs inside the Capitol building. They look like they are from another time and place. They don’t look like the Illinois I see everyday.

I hope Leader Radogno talks about how Rauner undercut her work with Cullerton…
Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 4:17 pm
Maybe Radogno can elaborate on the threats Rauner made to her caucus during the grand bargain.
Comment by 360 Degree Turnaround Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 4:19 pm
I’m picturing Bruce doing his best Edgar Bergen impersonation…going so far as to drink a glass of water while Christine & Jim speak.
Comment by Jocko Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 4:23 pm
Yeah, they want a budget. /s
Comment by Stark Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 4:24 pm
Are you kidding that Radogno would expose BR being a bad dude to folks….this is all family….sink or swim togeather in 2018. this is almost a joke RICH who will even see it a few Springfield folks bet not much will be on Chicago TV.
Comment by scott aster Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 4:26 pm
Do tell us Leader Radogno how your caucus did not support the budget that passed out of the Senate.
Comment by here we go again... Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 4:27 pm
I’m sure another campaign speech by Rauner. Now the Democrats will just wait till he’s out of office
Comment by milkman Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 4:35 pm
How to Win Friends and Influence People - just read the press release and do the opposite. I suspect the press conference will be the opposite of everything Dale Carnegie would’ve advocated as well.
Comment by AC Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 4:39 pm
The majority party’s failure to pass a balanced budget?
Or the governor’s failure to present a balanced budget?
And what about the governor’s interference anytime the legislature got close to passing a budget?
If only the majority party had majority messaging.
Comment by Henry Francis Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 4:46 pm
Is a phony bill one that the governor disagrees with?

“Don’t go through a process of just trying to create phony headlines around the state.” - Gov.
Gaslight
Oh please. Just…stop. Golly.
Comment by Nick Name Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 4:51 pm
Also - Do Proft’s so called newspapers have phony headlines?
Comment by AC Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 4:54 pm
Radogno: “There’s no property tax reform coming from the House. None whatsoever.”
Leader Radogno, respectfully, do you know what real, actual property tax reform is? Passing a dang income tax increase so the state can fulfill it’s constitutionally mandated duty to be the primary funder of education — thus taking the pressure off local school districts to find the money, THUS resulting in property tax relief/reform.
Why does the press not blast her and Gov. Gaslight and the rest of them for this?

Rauner asks Democrats not to travel state holding “sham” hearings.
“That’s what I do!” - Phony Rauner
Rauner is so breathtakingly disingenuous.
Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 4:55 pm
It feels like I’ve seen this movie before, except I can’t remember how it ends.
Comment by 47th Ward Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 4:55 pm
“Rauner says it’s part of his job to travel the state and communicate with Illinoisans, but that if the House holds hearings they’d be perpetuating a sham.”
Don’t know what to say. I just…wow.
Comment by Nick Name Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 5:02 pm
I’ve been listening to Rauner say the exact same things so often that I could have scripted his remarks word for word.
So incredibly redundant and predictable.
Comment by illini Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 5:03 pm
Ah for the good old days when they’d stop the clock at 11:59 pm and keep working until they got a budget instead of holding press conferences.

Not much G droppin’ What gives
No grand staircase rant…hmmmm
Comment by Annonin' Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 5:05 pm
Protecting taxpayers?
That is what they claim to be doing?
How is running up a backlog of overdue bills for the tune of $14 billion that the state (taxpayers) have to pay protecting taxpayers?
How is incurring $800 million of interest on that backlog that the state (tax payers) have to pay protecting taxpayers?
How is downgrading (repeatedly) the state’s credit rating, resulting in higher yields the state (taxpayers) have to pay protecting taxpayers?
Comment by Henry Francis Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 5:07 pm
These three are trying to create some sort of alternate reality with this press conference, on Twitter Natasha Korecki is providing live rebuttal/fact checking.
Comment by The Captain Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 5:08 pm

Sort of like how the Democratic delegation looked when all of the African-American legislators were Republicans some decades ago (before 1940),

not with a bang but a whimper.

Where is the Democrats’ response saying Rauner and those he owns are being disingenuous?
Once again, Rauner and his public-relations professionals gain the upper hand.

Three people who accomplished absolutely nothing this session and did it all by design.
Congratulations.

The folks controlling 2/3rds of the legislative and executive branches, explain why they are Madigan ducklings unable to pass needed bills.
Comment by VanillaMan Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 6:00 pm
Michelle Flaherty is spot-on. They didn’t have to anything. They got the outcome they wanted. Now they have the gall to complain? What a bunch of ingrates. Next time, a simple “thank you” will suffice.
Comment by 47th Ward Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 6:03 pm
By claiming they have no responsibility for the budget debacle, Republicans forfeit credibility.
Comment by anon2 Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 6:13 pm
I missed it but assume it went something like this:
Radogno: For a minute there I thought I was actually going to help solve something. That was close.
Durkin: I was never going to do anything.
Rauner: Trust me, neither of you was ever gonna do anything.
Comment by Michelle Flaherty Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 6:19 pm
Can’t bear to watch. Sorry. More of the same.
When Rauner started tweetin’ and runnin’ ads bashing Democrats for passing a tax increase, after he had previously said the Senate is close to passin’ a grand bargain, he signaled himself as the single, biggest hypocrite in the history of Illinois governors.
And Durkin’ and Radogno are his enablers.
#Sad
Comment by Winnin' Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 6:24 pm
Watched the CMS recording. What happened??? Looked like there was editing in some of the Q&A. Durkin looked like he was about to breakdown at the beginning.
Comment by Anon221 Wednesday, May 31, 17 @ 9:12 pm
