  2. A billionaire with an Astor Street property tax break? Is he referring to Cardinal Cupich?

    Comment by 47th Ward Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 5:36 pm

  3. I don’t mind the editorializing, that’s fair game, especially on Twitter, especially using irony.

The lunacy of 140 characters giving a complex answer as to the why here, it’s easier to be snarky to the irony.

  4. “Blago’s billionaire pal with an Astor St property tax break ” repeat repeat repeat

  5. @47th Ward:

Religious properties have always been tax exempt from property taxes (which admittedly makes the plot of “The Blues Brothers” implausible).

    Play nice.

  6. Mr. Cameron..it’s called politics.

Been saying that for years. Glad somebody else noticed.

  8. So what does WLS stand for these days, World’s Loudest Shill?

  9. Just the way Rauner’s people dictated it.

Comment by Why Not? Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 6:42 pm

  10. @Rich - I knew that the plot, involving the taxes, was implausible when I first saw the movie. But it is still one of my favorites and I will watch it on TV every time it is broadcast.

  11. To the Blues Brothers,

According to legend, the 300 plus screenplay, (most are 95-130 pages) had the police car “possessed” with divine powers, more subplots then could be sorted out, and long monologues about religion.

The tax assessor, (great cameo) and the tax thing was the least of their problems, I’m guessing.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 6:50 pm

  12. And, Oswego Willy, the movie had the great Cab Calloway singing “Minnie the Moocher.” Hi-de-ho!

  13. ===which admittedly makes the plot of “The Blues Brothers” implausible===

The finer points of the tax code tend to get lost during extended cocaine binges.

  14. - Christopher -

    Yep. That was a treat.

That band, Steve Cropper, Donald Dunn, all time greats now.

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 7:03 pm

  15. So while Bill Cameron pushes irony did he do the same when Illinois Family Institute compromised their entire Pro-Life platform to get Bruce Rauner in? We’ve all seen the video of them seriously being told by Tom Morrison and Paul DiCaprio and others that compromising their entire Pro-life belief system was necessary to get Rauner in.

Comment by DuPage Bard Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 7:41 pm

  16. Hey, what about me, Bill? Remember me? Brucey does.

Comment by Stuart Levine Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 8:42 pm

  17. Blues Brothers movie famous car crash scene at LaSalle and Lake Streets. You will notice that the James R. Thompson Center and the Transportation Center (203 N. LaSalle) buildings did not exist when that scene was filmed.

    Comment by Louis G. Atsaves Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 8:49 pm

  18. Meh, the JB stuff is small potatoes compared to the irony of Rauner blistering Quinn for a $5 billion backlog then seeing it increase to $14 billion in the longest 2 1/2 years of a governor ever.

Comment by JS Mill Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 9:55 pm

  19. Irony calling Pritzker an insider for trying to get a position for himself while Bruce Rauner uses insider privilege to get his daughter into a Chicago school she didn’t qualify for?
    Thanks for playing Bill

Comment by DuPage Bard Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 11:21 pm

  20. Rauner promised to unite Illinois.

    Illinois is uniting against Rauner.

Comment by Yellow Dog Democrat Tuesday, Jun 6, 17 @ 11:30 pm

  21. Bill Cameron comes out firing. He is an equal opportunity critic.

And as for the Blues Brothers, don’t sweat the small stuff and enjoy it for what it is: a cinematic comedic classic.
