Gov. Bruce Rauner said Wednesday that if a bipartisan budget agreement can’t be reached by the end of May, he’d be willing to pay for a special legislative session out of his own pocket to continue negotiations.
During a visit to Auburn High School to discuss education funding, the Republican governor said he remains cautiously optimistic that he can reach a “grand compromise” with lawmakers in negotiating a budget for the 2016 and 2017 fiscal years by the end of the spring session.
Two things. 1) Whatever happened to that idea of paying for a special session out of his own pocket? 2) I forgot about the “grand compromise” branding. It morphed into “grand bargain” when the Senate took over and now the Republicans are calling their plan the “Capitol Compromise.”

Nice catch. Guess he was willing to pay for a special session that cemented a budget that didnt raise his taxes. No point now that this fantasy was dashed.

Rauner need not worry.
Nary a Democratic actor in this… State… holds Rauner accountable… and ALL these hand-wringing Dems let Rauner own the message, own the airwaves, own the absolute framing… daily.
Rauner knows… his words never haunt… even when he can walk in a poorly lit Old State Capitol House Chamber.

He did pay $50,000 grand for the special session, didn’t he? I though he gave the check to Jim Durkin.

I can see this as a postcard campaign ad:
Governor Rauner promised xxx … Just another broken promise.

I hate his idea that “he’ll pay out of his own pocket” somehow makes him, what? You know what we all want? We want you to do you job, Governor! Picking up the tab is easy for a billionaire.

Paying out of his own pocket sounds like a bribe.

Has anyone calculated the cost of Raunervision, this bizarre State of IL propaganda/media campaign show of perpetual ribbon cuttings and First Citizen Bruce bestowing his noble blessings upon the Plebes? To whom much is given, much is expected, but in his selfless pubic service the Gov will not raise one penny of his own taxes. Tolls on I-55, that’s an option he’ll consider. Term limits or bust. Don’t waste your time even thinking about campaign finance reform. It’s Bruce’s state and he loves it. The rest of us are just living here except for people fleeing to Indiana, and they ain’t leaving for the weather. They’re going because as wingnut as Indiana is, they had the good sense to tell their former governor and current Vice President to go fish when he wanted to set up his own state media.

Rauner’s broken promises never end. That is why the legislature do not trust him.
