So an illegal gets 30 days to come up with auto insurance. While legal residents don’t get a break. This is just nonsense.

US drivers’ licenses are valid in Mexico, the source of a majority of illegal immigrants, so I assume Mexican drivers’ licenses are valid here.
Ditto many other countries.
So why do we need the driving certificate law?
Are our feckless legislators under the impression that the only country that licenses drivers is the US.
When US drivers’ licenses expire, they renew them. I’m sure other countries have similar
regulations.
Is this driving certificate law necessary or merely political posturing for the immigrant vote. Most likely the latter.

CASSANDRA Thank You you should also mention that we have people in charge of this state now that do whatever to assist people in violating federal law.Isn’t that a lack of ethics?

Just read the Sun-Times on HB 1100. People talk about not wanting to “reward illegal behavior,” but as it stands, aren’t these people getting rewards already? Under current law, they are driving *without* a license, don’t pay a cent for insurance, they don’t have to learn the rules of the road or pass a single exam. Why not force them to learn the rules, get tested, get insurance, etc. etc.?

“One reason they offered is that it would make traffic stops safer for officers. Right now, officers who stop an immigrant don’t know anything about that person. Under the certificate program, they would be able to check the driver’s record for any history of violence.â€
The only history they would know about would be what is stated for as long as they were in this country – using the name that was given at the time of getting the license certification. What is to stop them from using a different name to get another certificate? When the police stop an illegal immigrant, I thought the police officers were supposed to arrest him and turn him in to INS. What is wrong with this picture?

I thought our state fruit was already decided upon and it was named Blagojevich. Sorry, my mistake.
Anyway, the important thing is that our illustrious and hardworking political officials (that we are paying their salaries to waste time and taxpayer’s money on such frivolous crap as state fruits and things)have decided to concentrate on the more “important” matters effecting the future of the State of Illinois. When former Governor George Ryan was running Illinois financially and morally down the toilet, our Springfield politicians were busy toiling over the more momentous decisions such as whether popcorn should be the official Illinois snack food. I think the inmates have taken over the asylums in the state of Illinois. While the H.M.S. Illinois is slowly sinking after colliding with the iceberg, Captain Blagojevich and his Democrat crew are busy arranging the deck chairs for the shuffle board tournament. Let the History Books of Illinois show that Republican Governor George Ryan led the Donner Party into the snow-covered pass of the mountain range. The Democrat Governor Blagojevich showed the Donner family how to fricasee “left-overs” in order to make the best of a bad situation and how to make it last.
