* Rep. Dan Brady (R-Bloomington) was interviewed by WJBC this morning.
Despite frequent prodding by the hosts to attack Speaker Madigan and the Democrats, Rep. Brady tried to remain as focused as he could on the actual progress being made behind the scenes.
Brady is right about that. Rank and file House Democrats and Republicans have been working together to try to resolve some issues, like property taxes, workers’ comp, pensions, etc.
The problem isn’t necessarily with the members, it’s the two guys at the top of the food chain who can’t resist trying to knock this off the rails. Gov. Rauner has done this time and time again, of course, and Speaker Madigan appears to be doing it today with House floor votes on “non-budget issues” despite the fact that rank and file negotiations are continuing. (Debates are happening on those bills as I write this, by the way, so click here for our live coverage post.)
* Rep. Brady had a message for both Rauner and Madigan…
“I’d like to say to both of them ‘Just sit on the sidelines because there’s key people that can get it done.’ […]
“People will ask me, ‘What is it I can do?’ Everybody’s good at the negatives and the smart comments and that’s fine. If you want to do something positive, drop an e-mail or a call to the governor and/or the speaker today and let them know what you think.”
* Raw audio…

It’s a fine thought, but they tried that in the Senate, and here we are.

Rep. Brady is a good dude and a very level-headed legislator. Props to him for staying above the fray and including both Governor Rauner and Speaker Madigan in his remarks.

===but they tried that in the Senate===
Name me one Senate Republican who publicly called on Rauner to get his hands off their chamber.

Kudos to Brady for his comments.

Didn’t the speaker and the governor take a “hands off” approach for three months in the Senate. Oh wait, that was just the speaker. The Governor threatened Senate members not to vote for it.

Rep. Dan Brady is a great guy. So level headed and fair. Give him the ball and let him bring it over the goal line.

And for the record, I do like Representative Brady, and praise him for his remarks.

Agreed. Daffy Ducttape and Mad Again need to listen more and rely on members to agree on what they can. Their response should be “is that what everyone thinks is worlable on this? Ok then, thats what we are doing.

More thinking like this from both sides of the aisle please.

Nice statement. Somewhat akin to sending the kids out to play while the adults talk.

Brady better not embarass Rauner and the Koch brothers.

Dan Brady is a genuinely nice person, well intentioned, and good guy. He is not one of the legislative Twitter trolls like Wherli.
For Dan to step out like this is a good indication the aggravation of the rank and file.
I am impressed he went on record like that and glad he did.

He’s a good guy but actions will speak louder than words. It’s easy to thump your chest on local media when you probably did not count on your comments making it into CapFax.

If Brady is right, then the ran and file from both sides should pass a veto proof compromise bill and end this disaster.
