* I told subscribers that Sen. Haine was coming back to town for today’s vote, even though doing so could imperil his health. Here’s his statement…

If Governor Rauner does not veto immediately so the Senate can override immediately, he is literally playing with Senator Haine’s life.

A selfless statesman. I applaud you, sir. May you have a quick recovery.

Props to the Senator; someone who shows he understands public service.
Just hope he can arrange any medical support he may need locally if he has to stay here for more than a day.

Oh, boy. My father-in-law struggled with multiple myeloma and it was not an easy thing to do. I know too much about what this means.

Senator Haine is a great man and I wish him the very best in his treatment and recovery.

I lost my sister to multiple myeloma…it is a devastating disease. I applaud Senator Haine for his courage and commitment to the citizens of our state. Others take note: this is what leadership and honoring your oath of office looks like.

Thank you, Senator, for putting yourself at risk.
Your colleagues who will not do the right thing simply because of the risk of a contested primary or election should hang their heads in shame.

Many thanks to Senator Haine for making this effort on behalf of the people of Illinois. I wish there were more like him in the G.A.
Best wishes to him for improved health soon.

“Senator Haine: “Being present to help bring stability back to the state is of absolute importance. Although I have been facing some hardships over the last few months, this is bigger than me. This is about the citizens of Illinois & ensuring they have a future in this great state.” “I will be in Springfield today to help make sure schools open in the fall, state universities receive state funding & seniors continue to receive the care they need.”
Vote “Yea” with Sen. Haine for IL’s future.

@Grand Avenue….
That comment is out of bounds. God Bless Senator Haine and best wishes to him. Nobody is “playing with his life.” Under your logic, the same could be said of the two Democrats who voted NO forcing him to come back.
Please use civility.

Whatever one’s view of the revenue bill, Senator
Haine is a true statesman and dedicated public
servant going back to his time in Vietnam in the First Air Cavalry when was awarded the Bronze star.
I hope people who will undoubtly comment on social
media remember that today, the 4th of July.

I already commented on the ScribbleLive post, but have to expand my comments —
Thank you for once again showing that there are times when sacrifices and difficult decisions have to be made and that you are willing to do what is right.
I knew you even before you entered elective politics in Madison County ( we have many common friends ) and I was proud to see you succeed Sen. Sam and Evelyn.
Although I have not had the privilege of having you represent me since I moved, you have represented your state and District well. As well as my interests.
Thank you your vote on this most important issue and best wishes always.

The Governor announced he will veto. There is no sense delaying it when there is a very ill (and very brave) Senator who needs to get back to medical treatment and away from infection risks. Every minute that passes without him doing the inevitable is playing with Senator Haine’s life.
Comment by Grand Avenue Tuesday, Jul 4, 17 @ 12:33 pm
This sort of situation didn’t turn out so well for the late Rep. Golar. It makes me nervous for them to make an ill person wait on a vote a minute more than is necessary. Prayers for Senator Haine.

He knew Rauner has 60 days to act going in - just as you do. Stop with the heart tugging nonsense.
Is it any wonder that people outside the swamp despise pols and their lickenspittle supporters?

Senate Dem spokesman saying the budget bills remain in the Senate’s possession but “working on” getting them sent to the governor’s office.=
Kind of hard to save Sen. Haine’s life when Rauner doesn’t even have the bill to veto, isn’t it?

I am from the district that Senator Haine represents. He is known throughout our community as a brave man, a man of principle. I am especially grateful to him for his keeping faith with us state retirees. I wish him a speedy and full recovery and I hope he serves many more years representing the riverbend in the state senate.
