* Gov. Rauner spoke to reporters today about SB 1…
Let me be crystal clear. The Senators have been clear with our team that they are under specific orders from Speaker Madigan to hold the bill… You guys are all smart. You’ve been around Illinois politics for a while. You know how this goes. Speaker Madigan has directed the Senators to hold the bill.

President Cullerton called me about an hour ago. I called him back. His specific request was, he said ‘Governor, you know, um, I’d like to meet with ‘ya on Monday in Chicago to talk about school funding.’
Really? Are you kidding me? Monday? In Chicago? When we’ve called a special session, when it’s the duty of the legislature to pass a funding bill and get it done so our schools can open on time? You’ve got to be kidding me.
The governor then claimed: “Our children are being held hostage by these politicians.” And he repeatedly refused yet again to provide any details of his own plan.
I’ve asked the Senate President’s office for a response. I’ll post it if and/or when I get it.

Obviously zero desire to govern. He needs these people to get anything he wants. And I can’t blame them for their intransigence because when someone keeps giving me the finger, my response is not, “how may I help you”?

I think Rich pointed out Trotter’s personal views of Madigan earlier this week. Short version - no way he does ANYTHING because Madigan wants him to.

at both the State and the National level, it seems that there is a strategy to exhaust people in to stepping away so the rich “leaders” can do what they will. abuse people, relentlessly attack, divert with phony issues, be just plain mean, all of it is designed to get people to quit. Resist.

The Pritzker Crew went “chapter and verse” on what the Rauner Veto really meant.
Rauner is desperate to AV the vehicle SB1, once again hurting Chicago children, no matter what Diana Rauner thinks she’s saying.

Let’s see. We have a funding bill that school superintendents all around the state say is a fair way to fund their districts. We have a governor who has promised to veto portions of that bill that deal with picking up the current pension funding of the only district in the state that the state doesn’t already pick up. If he issues that veto, that veto will likely not have enough votes to be either sustained, or overridden, thus having the same effect as a full veto.
Rauner will own this veto, just like he’ll own the rest of his purposeful destruction of Illinois come election day. He gets the full blame if schools are affected by that AV. School superintendents know this. And through them, so will school parents.

Also - why did Trotter file the motion to reconsider? SB1 is not even his bill. I am legitimately curious about that. Manar has been working on this issue since before he was Senator.

According to Rauner, Madigan is holding the bill up. Are you saying he’s lying by admitting that it’s Trotter’s decision, or are you just driving by again today?

A few days ago the Governor said of the bill, ““It was hijacked at the last minute by the majority in Springfield. . . ” I thought that was progress but now we are just back to, Because Madigan.

The serial fabulist strikes again.
Even when the truth serves him (that Senate Dems are holding back SB1 as a hardball politics move to put a time crunch on him) he can’t resist spreading fairy tale stories of the Senate Dems being nothing but minions of his arch-enemy Madigan, and presenting this as the latest chapter in the fantasy story where he’s a noble knight on a quest to slay the Madidragon.
Also how is Senate President Cullerton wanting to talk to him privately about education funding a shock to him? Or even unreasonable? Cullerton has publicly called for leaders meetings. So Rauner is saying Cullerton has made private overtures on this too? Big whoop.

Rauner seems content with schools not opening in September. The question is whether Senate and House are content with that. As evidenced by the house budget vote, there are Republicans in the house that are willing to go against Rauner, so Madigan and Cullerton would be better off focusing on them rather than a governor who clearly has given up on compromise.

The likelihood, today, right now, of the AV being overridden, (does anyone even know how Rauner will do the AV, he won’t discuss it) isn’t really possible, given the House.
So, Rauner better have a good end game for purposely hurting Chicago students.

Obviously, we are on the outside looking in. But it is clear Rauner doesn’t know how to use the levers of power he has.
SB-1 is currently held, awaiting reconsideration. IF the Governor would engage, either with Cullerton or another leader or respected figure in the Senate, it would be possible to discuss amending SB-1 before it goes to Rauner. Rauner could find out if he has the votes to strip the Chicago portion he objects to out of the bill.
But, for whatever reason, Rauner wants the spectacle and headlines of vetoing the bill. I don’t see how that helps Rauner, especially since the votes to override likely aren’t there and “Governor’s own”.
Maybe I don’t have the vision of America’s Best Team. /s

He can do lots and lots of things. He just can’t take any action on the bill. But that’s hardly a prerequisite for meeting with leadership or rank-and-file or other stakeholders, or announcing his own plan, or any of a dozen other things.

Does Rauner think there is some secret code hidden in the bill that can’t be seen on the ilga website? The bill is there, easily accessible to read, and meet to discuss. Maybe the new staffers just haven’t figured that out yet.

Who promised to pass statewide pension reform last year after the election so CPS could get pension money and did not even bring it to a vote last year in the Senate?
The Cullerton pension bill still has not been called in the House.

Lamont - the bill has been in Senator Trotter’s queue for 56 days. 56. That is just nuts. Schools open in 3-4 weeks.
Putting all of Rauner’s schtick about Madigan aside there is no excuse for the bill to still be held up by Senator Trotter.
President Cullerton must be worried that he cannot override a Rauner (amendatory) veto. Why else would it still be in Trotter’s hands (figuratively)? It only passed with 35 votes both times.

Rauner vetoed the $215 million, emotionally, to hurt CPS.
