* Tribune…
In one case, Emanuel noted how the controversy involving, and Trump’s ultimate firing of, White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci overshadowed what should have been positive storylines for the president — an increase in the GDP and Foxconn adding thousands of jobs in Wisconsin.
“He is his own worst enemy,” Emanuel said of Trump, before drawing a parallel between the president and Rauner. “I actually don’t think it’s an accident — since people say, ‘oh we need a businessman’ — they don’t understand politics, and we see it in our governor’s office. He’s a businessman. He fired all of his staff. He got overridden four times. He has no sense of how to work with other people. He’s got no sense of how to hear what other people are saying. It’s either my way or the highway, and he undermines people in that process. I think that’s why, in both cases, nothing’s getting done.”
Sorry, JB and Chris. You’re businessmen, just like Rauner and Trump. /snark
* Speaking of Drury…
DRURY TO UNVEIL BLUEPRINT TO REBUILD ILLINOIS
Highland Park, Illinois – Today, August 3, 2017, at 1:30 p.m., Scott Drury, Democratic candidate for governor, will unveil his blueprint to Rebuild Illinois and pave the path to Illinois’ brighter future. Comprehensive in scope, Rebuild Illinois will return prosperity to Illinois by tackling its crushing debt, reforming its rigged election process, ending the corrupt deal between lobbyists and legislators, and restoring trust through the implementation of multiple anti-corruption initiatives.

What makes you think he is not supporting his own Alderman for Governor?
Comment by 47th Ward Thursday, Aug 3, 17 @ 9:21 am
===his own Alderman===
Good point! I added him to the headline.

What this state needs is a former federal prosecutor to clean up this mess.

So Drury is going to “drain the swamp” trump like

Pawar is not impressive. And certainly not experienced. He is taking up the banner of progressive politics, which doesn’t really sell state-wide. He hasn’t been on the Alderman job for too long. It’s like skipping the 2nd, 3rd…grade to be a Senior in High School. Illinois needs a good governor.

Shallow spin from the doctor.
Emanuel liked Rauner’s biz skills when he made him a millionaire in that clouted SBC deal.

Show of hands who believe a Rahm endorsement is going to send one of the headlined candidates anywhere but backwards.
Comment by Blue Bayou Thursday, Aug 3, 17 @ 9:27 am
Does anyone rally want Rahm’s endorsement? Not sure what it gets you? This isn’t the old Daley days where it got a candidate the HDO army and access to dollars??
Comment by Not Rich Thursday, Aug 3, 17 @ 9:28 am
Wasn’t Drury the one who didn’t get the Madigan clock? That certainly disqualifies him to be a governor! I wonder if any of the Madigan clocks are for sale on E-Bay.

How many silver shovels will it take to pave the path to Illinois’ brighter future?

And Drury is with Rauner:
The primary solution to our debt and economic problems is to attack “corruption.”
If only the world were that simple.

Rahm should be thankful for Rauner…without BVR Rahm would be acknowledged as the biggest jerk in Illinois politics.

Pawar is using this campaign to launch his name beyond his Aldermanic Ward. I suspect he’ll run for mayor if the opportunity arises. Being the mayor of Chicago is a tough job. Pawar and Chuy are… not capable. I’ll take Rahm any day.

“Successful businessman” is a pretty broad ranging appellation. Sort of like “experienced elected official”.
There are “successful businessmen” who built up a business from small to large, and learned a lot about long range planning and working with people; they do well in office. There are “experienced elected officials” who started on a local district, city or village board, moved on to county board, and then into the General Assembly (and/or other state or federal office); they also do well. There are some “successful businessmen” and “experienced elected officials” who make one wonder greatly how they managed it.

‘Scott Drury, Democratic candidate for governor…’
Did he finally get the memo about ‘former federal prosecutor’?
Comment by Morty Thursday, Aug 3, 17 @ 9:40 am
He won’t do it, but Rahm could really help himself out by endorsing Pawar.
Comment by Arsenal Thursday, Aug 3, 17 @ 9:49 am
I’m sure Pawar, Drury, and Biss would all be happy to see Rahm endorse JB right now.
Comment by MissingG Thursday, Aug 3, 17 @ 9:50 am
Seriously, Rahm take a look in the mirror. Your handling of the Chicago Public Schools, the City Colleges and the Chicago Police Department have been abject failures that have caused long term damage to the city. Your “successes” usually involve sweetheart deals designed to benefit your business cronies.

Bruce’s own self proclaimed belief that he was a “successful businessman” was his stint as a Nursing Home Cafeteria Director.
It would be like bragging to someone in Winnetkastan that your the Director of Solanum tuberosum operations at a Quick Service restaurant.

I listened to the Foxxconn press conference the day after the White House announcement. If Trump focused too much he would be caught in another lie. He said it only happened because of him. Well….Walked had been working with Gao back when Walked was running for President.

It’s like you’re my mirror
My mirror staring back at me
I couldn’t get any bigger
With anyone else beside of me
And now it’s clear as this promise
That we’re making two reflections into one
‘Cause it’s like you’re my mirror
My mirror staring back at me, staring back at me

Very rarely do I agree with Rahm, but I’ve been saying the same thing. The skills that make you a good businessman (assuming the metric there is profit) are not the skills that make you a good executive. That’s not to say people with a business background can’t be good legislators or leaders, but the idea that success in business is equivalent to actual experience in governance when it comes to seeking high offices is something we need to move past.
Comment by Actual Red Thursday, Aug 3, 17 @ 11:18 am
Tell the truth Rahm. The only reason that you are still in Illinois is because Hillary crashed and burned and was unable to bail you out with a major appointment. Chicago’s City Hall was only a temporary position to massage your ego after Obama and Jarrett were about to dismiss you as COS.
Your criticisms of Rauner are weakened by the “Pot Calling Kettle” quality of you dissing your former business partner and wine drinking buddy.

Trump has a friend named Jim and the tough Chicago cop that can solve all of Chicago’s violence problems in two days. Now democrats can get the solutions to all of our problems from Scott Drury. Thank God we have a former federal prosecutor to save us. He can build on his accomplishments in the House.
