Thanks to this record, there will never be another record like this in US government again. Most undoubtedly will be term limits on leadership positions in the near future.

Well Blatt was also the longest serving state legislator in U S History. 53 years so Madigan has that to shoot for. Both Democrats tho

High level, anyone who wants to end Madigan’s tenure is free to contribute $, knock on doors, or even move to the 22nd district and vote / run against Madigan. Or low level, be lazy and whine about term limits.

Honestly… yes. In 1983, the only things I had to my name were some toys and clothes. Heck, I wasn’t even allowed to eat a cookie without asking first. Now, I have a car, my own house, credit cards, a 401K… and I can eat a cookie whenever I want. Now tell me again how I was better off before Mike Madigan.

Those who’d like to talk about his “reign of terror” forget to mention he wasn’t responsible for the credit downgrade of multiple major public universities or the shuttering of rape crisis centers. Weird how those things just started happening in the last 3 years.

Lord knows no one loves to clown Madigan’s supposed legislative/political prowess more than me, but his caucus has always been free to do things differently. That his caucus is full of mushrooms who are more than happy to abdicate any responsibility to their constituents is meaningful but also irrelevant. It’s on them, and by extension everyone who voted for them.
Madigan is just a symptom of Illinois’ broader governmental strategy: we hand off all of our problems to someone else and act shocked when things fall apart.

“Are you better off today than you were 11,894 days ago?”- No, my children and I didn’t have a $250 billion dollar debt to contribute too with an interest payment that takes up 25% of the State budget. We had good paying factory jobs in town and the poverty rate in my town was 10% of what it is today. The citizens of our town were not looking at what state to move too to find meaningful employment with decent pay.

Stark -The credit downgrades for the State started during Quinn and the States failure to fund K-12 properly has been going on for decades. Population and jobs started leaving this state for others long ago as well. The pension debt that is driving all the fiscal hell started long ago and now the interest on that debt consumes 25% of the State budget. Wouldn’t that money be better spent on programs than on interest from debt?

Most of those jobs went to Mexico, China, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, places like that.

Move on from Mike Madigan and concentrate on our worse governor in modern Illinois history. He’s a billionaire that likes to blame others and cannot answer simplistic questions. At the end of the day and term, he’s the governor who has failed everyone in this state. In addition, hates the lower and middle class including unions. He’s the Koch Brothers 2.0 for Illinois. He’s no good for the people of Illinois. Nor is Proftrauner too. Let’s get back to the middle voters of Illinois.

Solomon Blatt sounds like the name of a guy who takes the family farm and then ties someone to railroad tracks.
Based off of old movies, it seems at one time in America being tied to railroad tracks was the third most common way of murdering someone.
Also along those same lines, it turns out quicksand is a much lower risk that cartoons lead me to belive.

What is his legacy to the middle class families in Illinois he claims to be so concerned about?
Illinois residents have the least fatih in their state government of any state in the union.
