Fun with the eclipse

* This tweet set off a chain reaction of sorts…

.@GovRauner statement: "Our sun is broken and Madigan wants to keep it that way. We must reform our broken solar system." #twill

Brady and Durkin: What he said

Speaker Madigan: The moon behaved in the extreme and must be overridden

Cullerton: Having been in Madigan's shadow for 40 years, now you all know how I feel.

Greg Baise: Hardworking ultraviolet light manufacturers are being crushed by sky-high workers comp costs.

That one about Cullerton still cracks me up.

* Don’t look at the sun, Leslie!!!…

* Umm…

* But the Chicago Tribune editorial board was its usual downer self

We’re sure that will be a thrilling sight. But there’s another eclipse in Illinois that isn’t thrilling — or so brief.

This eclipse doesn’t occur only on Aug. 21.

It is happening every day.

You don’t need special glasses to see it.

Just keep your eyes open to the grim, familiar evidence of Illinois in eclipse:

Job seekers and company execs who cross Illinois off their lists early because of its toxic political and business climate.

Droves of students who flee to financially stable out-of-state universities.

For sale signs that sprout galore. Illinois in eclipse has led the nation in population loss three years in a row. (Such a three-year streak has happened only one other time since 1900, during World War II.)

  1. ===Droves of students who flee to financially stable out-of-state universities.===

    Gov. Rauner vetoed the funding for state universities.

    The Democrats, in a bipartisan move with Sen. Righter and 15, then later 10 House Republicans, saved funding for Illinois’ state universities.

    Rauner vetoed. But, Chicago Trib Edit Board, you already knew that…

  2. Thankfully I still have my eclipse glasses so I can safely look at the Tribune Editorial page.

  3. Wow, a hurricane, an eclipse — that Katrina is some fancy writer in her own mind,

    She can take any topic on her mind that day and bend it to her Rauner/IPI-issued chanting points.

    “The Illinois pension system is like piles. It won’t get better with quick-fix ointments. It needs painful but necessary surgery…”

  5. So the Trib is worried about state universities now?

    Charming.

    Have they ever advocated for more robust state funding?

    What a joke of a paper (editorial side, at least).

  7. “Have they ever advocated for more robust state funding?” - Why, the State spends whatever they want whether they have the revenue or not? $250 billion pension debt and unfunded retiree healthcare to name two. Cost at Illinois Universities were driving away students before the budget crisis.

  10. What is it about wealthy elected officials and looking at the eclipse without protective glasses? Does 1.4% and drumpf really believe that the sun won’t blind them?

  11. The ‘clipse was the best
    TG no one even looks much at Katrina and the Edit Board (probably why she flunked here IPI entrance test).
    Does anyone else think Wingeee has bulked up?

  12. ‘Eclipse reaches 99.3% of totality. A dissatisfied Rauner raises his hands towards the sky in disgust; heads home.’
