The Academy Award for best histrionics about process goes to…

Posted in:

* The Tribune editorial board always gets too caught up trying to be the legislative process police. The bill passed the House. It’s a reasonably good bill. Get over yourselves

The best we can say:

After lawmakers churned through their theatrics, they eventually got to “yes.” Public school and choice advocates alike should be grateful. Disgusted with the process and the jerk-arounds, but grateful.

Senators, over to you. Do what’s right, without all the House’s preening and posturing through several acts. Pass the compromise bill and send it to the governor.

Disgusted with a process that passed a decent bill? C’mon. Some things just have to be done. Sausage-making ain’t pretty, as they say.

  1. I’d be interested in the process of Tribune Editorial Board members that kept silent as Randy Michaels ran a campaign of sexual harassment across the company.

  3. Bob Evans would be proud of this bill and the process in making it. It’s just how things are done in a legislature; here, there, and just about everywhere.

  4. The Trib editorial board still can’t accept that they don’t have anything like the clout that the Colonel once did.

  5. It’s actually pretty cool to see a group of people that can be clueless and disingenuous at the same time. That’s hard to do.

  6. To the Post,

For me, arguably the best comment yesterday, in speaking to this whole process issue, bar none.

    ===- Norseman - Monday, Aug 28, 17 @ 8:02 pm

What we have here is a demonstration of the art of legislating. As Rich so ably notes - member management. I’ve always preferred the government-based leadership style of Phil Rock and John Cullerton over the political-based style by Madigan. But the latter is certainly good at what he does.===

This, was the best comment, I felt yesterday, to process.

This also applies here to the lack of understanding by the Trib Edit Board.

While “Statehouse” (snicker-snicker) Chick (her own choice of words) was so troubled and so beside herself, - Norseman - really did an outstanding post-motrem as far as comments went.

It’s the difference between watching and understanding what’s you are actually seeing.

    Well said, - Norseman-.

  7. So if the Senate passes it after 2 hours of preening & posturing, is the Trib going to call on Rauner to veto it?

    What a waste of ink.

  8. Ok going to say something that I never have said before and may never again. I agree with the Trib. They aren’t slamming the process they are saying that public school advocates and school advocates feel disgusted with the process. Which I would say that public school advocates would agree with that. How do those R yes votes who HATED sb1 now say it’s a great bill? Oh yeah tax cuts for the rich.

  10. Hey, remember the thread/post yesterday about Rep. Wojicki-Jimenez and the awful things said to her. What does this tribune editorial do for general assembly members? It makes people dislike them and come up and say awful things to them. Even when they do something that was good, they still did it wrong.

  11. =Disgusted with the process and the jerk-arounds=

Why? Because last nights process took a couple of hours to unfold? Or perhaps frustrated because some of their esteemed board members jumped the gun and started tweeting that the sky was falling?

  12. The troncs were obviously looking forward to a full-blown tantrum. They’d skipped their naps and Happy Meals in preparation for achieving maximum childish petulance.

It’s understandable that they’re disappointed to be deprived of the opportunity.

Katrina was in the midst of a twitter meltdown between the first and third votes, even quoting noted goo-goo Nixon from his 1946 campaign, for some reason that I’m sure makes sense to her.

    They’re so weird.

  14. The saddest element is that but for Capt Fax pointin’ this tantrum out no one…repeat no one would notice.
Folks don’t read Kassamoron, they do not read the editorial page

  15. Thank you Willy.j

To the post, the Trib editorial board is usually out of touch with reality. The reporters do a good job in laying out the reality, but the edit board members seem too busy dreaming of a conservative nirvana to read their work.

  16. Remember when the Tribune was a credible newspaper? It’s been a long time.

Comment by Trapped in the 'burbs Tuesday, Aug 29, 17 @ 11:56 am

  17. Never confuse the reporters from the Tribune with the Kass, “StatehouseChick” brand that obviously don’t read their own paper or understand politics and process (h/t to Pearson)

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Aug 29, 17 @ 11:58 am

  18. In all fairness, Kristen McQueary’s column calling for the Rauner AV to be rejected and a compromise based on the framework of SB 1 was a turning point.

I thought “StatehouseChick” called for override.

    Did I miss that?
