* From a Scott Drury fundraising appeal…
Subject: We will not be silenced
David - Last week, we put out a call to action for our August fundraising deadline tonight at midnight, and the response has been truly humbling.
In recent weeks, the efforts to silence our campaign have reached new heights. On an almost daily basis, we learn of attempts to exclude our voice from Democratic forums. What are they scared of? For the first time in decades, there is a campaign that seeks to blow up the status quo and replace it with a government that works for us.
Next week is the unofficial start of campaign season. Help us send the strong message that our voice will not be silenced by those intent on clinging to power. Step up and support our campaign before midnight tonight.
If you stand with us and are ready to seize upon this opportunity, now is the time to act. Our campaign only succeeds when everyday Democrats across the state reject our broken system and make a contribution to our campaign:

Thank you,
Scott Drury
Democratic Candidate for Governor
Drury’s last A-1 was filed in July and he reported receiving $1,000 from a Wilmette resident.

It’s not the unofficial start dweeb, it’s the official start - 9/5 is the first day you can legally circulate petitions.
Enjoy coming in 6th.

It is easy to silence something that makes no noise….

“the response has been truly humbling.”
Apparently raising no money is the one thing that can humble Drury.

He looks like a vanity candidate, his campaign is being run like he’s a vanity candidate so the people who host these forums are treating him as such. If you run a campaign like you’re a serious candidate that’s how people will treat you, it’s not that complicated.

If a campaign falls (flat) in a forest and no one pays attention, does it make a sound?
Comment by Leslie K Thursday, Aug 31, 17 @ 10:12 am
No mention of being a former federal prosecutor? Almost forgot about it.

Poor Scottie. What a victim.
Trust me Scottie. There’s no suppression of you - only indifference.

I hadn’t heard anything from Drury in weeks, so clearly those efforts are working.

Aside: Who the heck uses “Democratic Candidate for Governor” as an e-mail signature?
Comment by AuH20 Thursday, Aug 31, 17 @ 10:16 am
I think you have to be more than one person to use “we” and “our”.

If someone files for Governor in a forest and no one notices are they still a candidate?

I have seen Drury speak at several events, most recently last night. Whenever his vote against Madigan is mentioned, the crowd cheers - even at Democratic events. My guess is the powers-that-be want to contain this as much as they can. It’s kind of funny that Drury keeps shining a light on their petty ways.

It would be humbling if you only received $1,000.

You’re not being silenced — we all can hear the crickets clearly.
Comment by IllinoisBoi Thursday, Aug 31, 17 @ 10:33 am
If you can’t raise cash, you’re kind of silencing yourself.
Comment by Ron Burgundy Thursday, Aug 31, 17 @ 10:47 am
Prior to now, other Democrats were observed rolling their eyes when I spoke. Now some are clearly sighing as they roll their eyes when I speak. This new technique is clearly a coordinated effort led by Mike Madigan to silence me.
Comment by Quizzical Thursday, Aug 31, 17 @ 10:47 am
“Humbling” is one way to describe his fundraising. So is “humiliating.”
Is he so whack-a-do that the Rauner network won’t direct some chump-change his way just to cause trouble for the other Dems? I thought that was the game plan.
Where’s the gratitude? Drury was with Dunk on those failed override votes.
Comment by wordslinger Thursday, Aug 31, 17 @ 10:48 am
A good federal prosecutor would never bring a case to trial without a chance of winning.
Drury should apply the same standard to a race for governor.
Comment by Truthteller Thursday, Aug 31, 17 @ 10:48 am
I wonder if Drury might want to have his mental health evaluated. Social Security will provide a check dating back to the start of the diagnosed disability.
Comment by disability Thursday, Aug 31, 17 @ 10:53 am
An “emmissary” will “discuss” with Drury that the name of the game for him now is “get on the ballot”…
… then that “emissary”, right before the filing date will want to meet again, this time with a “petition attorney” to have all three look to see if Dury can withstand a petition challenge.
They all shake hands, the “emissary” says he/she will be in touch…
… and the Rauner “dark money” will have its “Democratic” vessel to tarnish and weaken whomever is the eventual nominee… for Rauner.
It’s a simple game, 3-4 players, lots of money, and lots of phony.
Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Aug 31, 17 @ 10:53 am
No surprise the Madigan criticism gets cheers from Democratic voters.
He only caters to the political class and special interests not the middle class he claims to champion.
Comment by Lucky Pierre Thursday, Aug 31, 17 @ 10:59 am
Hmmm, $1,000 from Thomas Sullivan of Wilmette. Could that be the same Thomas Sullivan that was the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois from 1977-1981? In any event, there’s a difference between trying to “silence” a campaign and ignoring a campaign that can’t really be taken seriously.

Mike Madigan and the indifference he controls.
Comment by Chicago Cynic Thursday, Aug 31, 17 @ 11:09 am
If Scott “You do know that I’m a former Federal Prosecutor” Drury wants to be the anti Madigan guy he ought to refund the money he got from MJM.
Comment by Hippo Crit Thursday, Aug 31, 17 @ 11:09 am
Anyone else would be so humiliated that they would have dropped out by now.
Nothing can “humble” Drury.

Who will be HIS running mate? Buehler? Buehler?

His campaign rhetoric always gives me a gross feeling, like I live in a dystopia and I should vote for him because…he can most depressingly describe the dystopia.

That would be interesting,
A piggy bank for sure, but damaged goods to say the least.
It would be “Level 9″ entertaining, lol

Maybe he should put the alumni of the U.S. Attorney’s Office on his mailing list. The response of silence may silence the blowhard.
Comment by Anonymous Thursday, Aug 31, 17 @ 12:56 pm
People are not “making efforts to silence” Drury. He just doesn’t make the most wanted list for the audiences.
I suppose if there are more than the top four candidates invited, then Daiber, and Drury, and Alex Paterakis, and that Dr. who announced at slating, should all be there.
