DPI isn’t exactly known for listening to anyone’s concerns and empowering grassroots activism. Is a new leaf being turned over?

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAH
the Majority party in the the state house, state senate, speaker of the House, President of the senate, both US senators, a majority of Us congressmen…. You are the majority party of this state you are not the resistance. You are so strong that you have pushed the republican governor of this state to sign numerous liberal proposals (Trust act).
I’m sorry but this is just beyond hilarious.

First tweets from House Dems and now this. Did MJM discover the 21st century all of a sudden?

We are the Borg. Resistance is futile.

Petition season has a way of bringing Dems together just like Bruce Rauner.

The Resistance. name of an album? Maybe next Madigan will ask someone if they want to rap, thinking that still means chat. behind the times, grabbing for relevancy.
Comment by Amalia Thursday, Sep 14, 17 @ 8:50 am
I sure hope so. As we see with Bruce Rauner and the GOP, many things that unite many people are under assault, such as healthcare and labor protections. The most important thing for Rauner–more important than governing–is trying to strike a “mortal blow” against the left by crippling public employee unions. That means moderate Hillary-type Democrats, Bernie types and others are united in being targeted for political destruction.
Comment by Grandson of Man Thursday, Sep 14, 17 @ 8:52 am
Seems more smart than funny to me, though of course much remains to be seen in the execution. The explosion of grassroots activity created by Trump has spilled over to Rauner, who’s roundly hated by progressives. Why not try to use it?
Like it or not, “the Resistance” is shorthand for all the new Trump-inspired civic engagement, so the name makes sense. In IL, resistance is to both Trump and Rauner and the conservative agenda.

The end is near. What’s next, Mapes letting members eat at their desk in chamber?
Comment by Give Me A Break Thursday, Sep 14, 17 @ 8:58 am
Will they be voting on the Joe Berrios Good Government Award?
Comment by Nitemayor Thursday, Sep 14, 17 @ 9:00 am
An email from the DPI?
Are the carrier pigeons lost? Did the pony in the express toss a shoe?
Did Madigan wake up to find that more than a million Illinois citizens vote Dem in prez years than off-prez years? And they don’t sit by their mail boxes patiently waiting for that direct mail piece for motivation?
Welcome to the 20th century.

Attendees will be presented two opportunities: Glengarry Highlands or Glen Ross Farms.
Comment by City Zen Thursday, Sep 14, 17 @ 9:16 am
If you look at the events, they’re not really incompatible with DPI’s usual activities. They’re mostly all canvasses to collect signatures.
Anecdotally, I’ve seen a significant amount of “new” people at them, but it kinda seems more like a branding exercise than something new.

Don’t tell Capt Fax but DPI helped elect a U.S. Senator, Comptroller and U.S. Rep.
What’s next? Hopefully they will get a website grovey enough for Capt Fax to like. Not

Who are they resisting against? A blue state with near veto proof majorities in the House and Senate? Both U.S. Senators Democrats? Majority of U.S. Representatives Democrats? Holding every statewide office except for Governor?
Are they clamoring for property tax relief? Tax relief? Balanced budgets? More jobs and making Illinois more business friendly? Term limits? Redistricting so “everyone has a seat at the table of power?”
LOL

It made sense when AFSCME hosted the Democratic Socialist meeting. This is just plain ridiculous.
Comment by Kan_Man Thursday, Sep 14, 17 @ 10:05 am
===Who are they resisting against?===
Bruce and Diana Rauner’s deliberate destruction of Illinois;
Continued refusal to fund state agencies with veto after veto
Continued starving of social services, with the sole worry being Diana Rauner’s “brand”
Continued deterioration of higher education by again vetoing a full year’s funding in hopes of closing one or more.
“Who are they resisting against?”
I guess you’ve been out to lunch these past 2 1/2 years
- Louis G Atsaves -, Rauner refuses to help Illinois and Diana is concerned that people are catching on and better messaging is needed.
The Dems are rallying against Rauner, Labor too.
I wouldn’t dismiss them this early.

Slowly but surely I guess

– Who are they resisting against?–
Trump and Rauner, who they will attempt to make conjoined twins. Rauner can’t disown Trumo because he needs him
Downstate, but Trump is bad news in the suburbs, where he got clobbered.
Real mystery, that Politics 101.

This brings to mind college kids in the 1960’s. Have they announced when they plan to storm the student union?

The heavy guffaws are coming from those who realized that 2 R seats in heavily won Trump states just flipped to Ds, yes?
Could be something to this Resistance thingy.

In a word, no…it’s time to reeducate (read reacquaint) the troops as to what is expected of them with a reminder of the spoils…

==We must learn from the past and look to the future–==
This old history major is highly amused. The people in famous resistance organizations (take the French or Polish for instance in WWII but there are many many more throughout history) strove for anonymity and secrecy and covert activity in order to be effective against their occupiers. Is the DPI actually pretending to mirror “The Resistance”–pretty much against themselves– with a press release, announcement of membership, public events and a fund raising plea? It is to laugh. Rich is right. You couldn’t make this stuff up.

Right now another ACA repeal attempt is being hatched. There is a lot to be worried about for so many people. Things like this bring concerned people together. Illinois stands to lose big in the latest repeal bill. Democrats need to jump into these movements and use their resources to help out.
Some Republican governors are vocally opposed to these repeal attempts, seeing the potential for massive harm to constituents. Where’s Bruce in all of this? He’s barely made a sound. Why should he care? He leveraged social services and shredded them in order to get Democrats to knife some of their biggest supporters, the unions.
Comment by Grandson of Man Thursday, Sep 14, 17 @ 7:47 pm
We can only hope ACA is repealed. The way its going Medicaid/medicair dollars may dry up before they plant me.
Comment by blue dog dem Thursday, Sep 14, 17 @ 9:16 pm
So has the Bernie Sanders wing has officially taken over the DPI ? What we need more socialism Illinois jobs are going bye bye activity like this will certainly not help draw development to spend and tax Illinois.
