This will raise the Kennedy visibility in the city with a high profile endorsement that *is* an elected official, but Chuy ran against Rahm and people remember that too.
That pesky soda tax is just all around awful for everyone close to its stink.

Interesting that Kennedy couldn’t get him to be his running mate though… Decent pick up for him with someone who in elected office.
Those D-2 Reports are right around the corner… Another mediocre quarter for Kennedy or Biss and they might be through.

I wonder if Kennedy can make inroads with the Bernie crowd that Biss stung by dropping Ramirez-Rosa. He kind of needs to in order to win the nomination.

Two important things about Chuy. First, CTU and SEIU created that Mayoral campaign out of thin air. Teachers unions and SEIU are the biggest fish still out there and will not be for JB. This is likely wouldn’t have happened without CTU and SEIU being ok with it.
Second, Chuy was Bernie Sanders primary spokesperson here and most identifiable surrogate. This is a signal to Bernie voters to move to Chris after the Biss/Rosa debacle (maybe Rosa will endorse Kennedy too).
The Soda Tax issue isn’t helpful, but Kennedy has been clearly on the record in opposition. If JB had to answer for every position his endorsers took he’d be in big trouble. Does he oppose gay marriage and abortion like Glen Poshard?

OW, remember that Chuy took Rahm to a runoff before LaQuon McDonald, raising property taxes, and constant stories about CPS insolvency. There are a lot of Chicagoans who regret their vote.
BTW, it’s pretty interesting Rahm hasn’t come out for JB even though he supports him. Is Rahm that toxic that a Dem nominee doesn’t wont accept the endorsement of the Mayor of Chicago?

Again, I agree it’s a big get. It’s undeniable.
I dunno if dissatisfaction with Rahm or a love for Chuy will resonate as a larger or smaller plus just yet.
To Rahm,
I have no idea what the Pritzker Crew is doing or rolling out or even discussing WHEN they will do anything. Having said that, I feel Kennedy may need the infastruvtre support in the City, and Chuy aids in that, so have the endorsement.
Pritzker may not need that infastructure support with Rahm, having Labor do that lift, so you sit on Rahm endorsing until you don’t.
Different campaigns have different needs with endorsements. That’s all.

Chuy has zilch “infrastructure” in Chicago. No organization. No money. But he’s got that soda tax vote. Tip to Kennedy, rethink taking an endorsement right now from anyone who voted for the soda tax because they are toxic. Just sayin’.

Are we certain Chuy is a “strong supporter” of the soda tax? He voted for it, but what has he said since? If anything this is further indication that he will vote to repeal or is generally softening on it.

Wait, I thought Kennedy said endorsements don’t matter. Also, I thought the Bernie fight was between Biss and Pawar. I’m so confused.
For those of us who do think endorsements matter in a primary, this is a nice get for Kennedy. Not remotely as nice as Mendoza, but it is the only good news Kennedy has had in a long, long time.
