IR’s head explodes

* Check out these Illinois Review headlines. They’re not only furious with the governor, they also mock some Republican officials for overly diplomatic reactions…

* Not all of those headlines were completely fair, though. Check out the end of Rep. Sosnowski’s release, for instance

The Governor promised to veto HB 40 in the public, in the press, and in private. I am extremely disappointed in the Governor’s actions in supporting this bill, in deceiving so many about his goals as Governor, and in his outright lie about this bill.

* Meanwhile, in case you missed it yesterday, here’s House GOP Leader Jim Durkin’s response…

The Governor and I disagree on this issue and I did not support the bill. I am displeased with the Governor’s action today. Moving forward, it’s important for Republicans to remember to come together. There is much work that needs to be done to make Illinois a thriving and vibrant state and we are committed to finishing the job.

* And this is Senate GOP Leader Bill Brady’s response…

“I voted against House Bill 40 and do not support the legislation,” said Brady. “While we disagree on this issue, and while I am disappointed, I stand ready to work with the Governor on the key economic issues and other challenges facing Illinois.”

  1. If there was this kind of moral outrage about the lack of a budget — we would have never had a budget impasse.

It’s interesting that this is the only social issue that appears to energize an otherwise vapid Illinois GOP.

    Everything else? Meh.

  2. I’ll be waiting for these disappointed legislators to return Rauner’s campaign donations in protest.

Comment by Norseman Friday, Sep 29, 17 @ 10:56 am

  3. The Raunerites held hostage social services, like Catholic Charities, then wonder aloud in front of cameras how a governor can say or promise what Rauner did, then do something else.

Rep. Breen admitted he enabled Rauner, including the purposeful destruction of social services, now Rep. Breen wants to discuss how one can face their own actions?

I don’t recall IR saying the destruction of social services needed to stop.

I may have missed that. It’s possible.

  4. This is a big issue for the Republican base. It might be the best indication , right now, that Rauner could be very unelectable because if he can’t hold on to his base: he can’t win in a Blue state.

  5. The headlines are from people who supported Rauner, endorsed Rauner, took his cash or all three. Will Raunerites give back all the money Rauner gave to them?

  7. ==This is a big issue for the Republican base.==

It’s sometimes easy for us to forget that abortion is one of the definitive political issues. How many Republicans held their noses and voted for Trump to preserve Scalia’s vote against Roe v. Wade?

  8. I’m a bit trepidatious about visiting IPI’s FB page today … perhaps better not to.

  9. To paraphrase the Watergate maxim: It’s not the crime, it’s the lying to Peter Breen and Jeanne Ives.

  10. Let’s get real, here. Some mothers choose to have babies with disabilities instead of aborting them. What has the Republican party or Governor Rauner done for these mothers and their children? Compassion for an unborn child doesn’t just evaporate postpartum, does it? Apparently it does.

  11. What Norseman said.

Lot of talk here. When you turn down Rauner’s money, whether it’s direct contributions or his bought and paid for caucus and state party orgs., I’ll notice.

    I won’t hold my breath.

Every single one of these divas played ball with Rauner for years when he was taking misanthropic actions that hurt real people right now.

Their Bad Opera swooning about something that may or may not happen in the future is nauseating.

  12. Republicans Outraged! (but not $o much..)

“I’m sooo mad at the governor for signing HB 40, I’m going to…
STAMP MY FOOT. Ahh, that’s better. Now, let’s move on…”

  13. HB40 criticism by Republicans of Uncle Bruce will drift away shortly after Bruce starts peeling off those fat checks to those who look away.
