Former Springfield restaurant owner Mike Murphy won the endorsement of the Sangamon County Republican Party Monday night to replace retiring state Rep. Sara Wojcicki Jimenez.
Murphy, 63, is the former owner of Charlie Parker’s Diner in Springfield.
Murphy beat out six other candidates to win the nod for the 99th House District seat from the party’s precinct committeemen Monday.
Seven candidates presented credentials to the party’s executive committee Monday before the meeting of all precinct committeemen. Party chair Rosemarie Long said the field was whittled to two before Murphy got the endorsement. Mike Coffey Jr. was the other finalist, she said.
“I think they liked (Murphy’s) business background,” Long said. “He also had farming in the family, and I think his passion to devote his full time to the office, I think that swayed people.”

Just add ‘no social agenda’ and it could be Rauner’s campaign pitch from 2014.

Taking Rauner money, and blindly following, seems to be a treacherous endeavor.

Were you asleep during the budget and revenue votes she took over the objections of the Governor? Or when she voted to override his vetoes on that. The AFSCME talking points from 2016 are old and tired by now.

Publius - every time there is a primary the Sangamon County GOP executive committee meets to decide which candidate or candidates they wish to endorse. This time they picked Mr. Murphy.
Two years ago they went with Sam McCann - but this year they are going with Steve McClure.
Four years ago there was a bruising battle between two GOP sheriff candidates - and it caused a huge rift in the party.
Dave Kelm is passing petitions - and I guarantee this will not stop him. Mike Coffey, Jr., on the other hand, might not continue.

So the local GOP is going Rauner picks so all the damage done to the local economy during the budget stand-off doesn’t matter

All of the candidates for this seat are solid choices. Congrats to Mike Murphy. He a Centurian Cyclist. He is even-keeled, always the same guy when you see him, and kind to all.
