Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb: Thanks, Mike Madigan.
Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens: Thank you.
Walker: For raising Illinois taxes.
Greitens: For blocking Rauner’s reforms.
Holcomb: And helping create new jobs in Indiana.
Walker: In Wisconsin.
Greitens: In Missouri.
Walker: Our economy’s on fire.
Greitens: We’re growing good jobs.
Holcomb: And we’re growing union jobs faster than Illinois.
Walker: So, we owe you.
Greitens: Huge.
Holcomb: Hoosiers love you, Mike Madigan.

The Democratic Governors Association, through spokesman Sam Salustro, releases the following statement in response to Governor Bruce Rauner’s new TV ad featuring governors who received substantial donations from Rauner:
“It’s appropriate the only governor not on screen is Bruce Rauner, who has abdicated his leadership position for nearly three years now. Illinois is losing jobs and people because Bruce Rauner forced the state to go through a two-year budget crisis that set the state back years financially and slowed the state’s economy.
“The fact is: Bruce Rauner’s economic policies have been the best thing that’s ever happened to Illinois’ neighbors.”

They neglect to say how Illinois still pays higher wages than they do, we’re still not a right-to-work state they are.
They also forget to say how their social services are not on par with the state of Illinois. And I don’t see droves of people moving to their states because of the standard of living.

This is a great ad, no matter how much you dislike Rauner on this blog. It resonates with Illinois voters. If only Rauner’s political staff was as competent as his official staff and the governor himself.

Good ad if you don’t have a problem with shameless dishonesty. Everyone on here at least knows Rauner never submitted a balanced budget and the income tax increase, which we all know he wanted, was about equal to the budget hole he left after bloating spending above Quinn levels.
But why be serious when you can blame your ineptitude on a 75-yr old man who leads the weaker branch of government.

At the end of the day, Wisconsin you will still be our playground, Indiana our armpit, and Missouri…well I got nothing for them but you get my point.
These states only exist because of the Chicago Metro…shoot I did it again with Missouri. Ok the Missouri Gov really ties the ad together.

This is good. Funny but not in a laugh out loud way, just funny that they actually got these other governors involved. This should play well to his audience. Its also coherent and to the point.

How this helps Rauner’s 63% disapproval is troubling, given three neighboring governors are in essence saying Bruce Rauner is so grossly inept Rauner can’t do anything and can’t get anything done.
So, in realty, Rauner put out an ad saying Rauner is incompetent and can’t get anything done…

Right? Exactly Right.
But, there is a silver lining for Raunerites…
The grossly inept Democrats as a whole will just let this go, let this run, thinking, as I do I guess, that this won’t help Rauner with that 63% disapproval and making Rauner look foolish by the sounds of these other governors…
… but it will try to push Madigan numbers again, as a sidebar to Rauner, and try to taint anything they can with Madigan.
So, no worry. This will be left unanswered. History tells me so.

Why wouldn’t Governors of other states WANT to keep Mike Madigan then? More jobs for them for their citizens, and an easier business climate to do business in their states should be what they’re concerned about not Illinois doing any better than where they are now.

Missouri has ten income tax brackets and takes 6 percent of your income if you make a paltry &9,074 per year. Let that sink in.
Wisconsin has four income tax brackets and will take 7.,65 percent of your income in the top bracket (earnings of $247,350).
Indiana’s state flat rate of 3.23 percent is lower than ours, but when you add in the county-level income tax it’s higher in pretty much every county.
It took me all of two minutes on Google to find these figures. I expect Dems to counter this lying add in 3…2…1… Uh, hello? Is anyone listening?

While I don’t dispute Nickname’s facts, they don’t matter when voters are looking around their communities and seeing closed stores and restaurants and more and more neighbors with homes in disrepair. Most voters are smart enough to not blame Madigan for these issues, but they probably cannot think of any positive economic initiative coming from the House under his leadership either.

This…isn’t going to be a very effective ad. It’s a bunch of politicians that nobody knows poor mouthing the state to get at a guy who’s not even running against Rauner. It’s good trolling, but that doesn’t always win you votes.

If Madigan were running for Governor, this would be a terrific ad.
However this ad also tees up Rauner up for a “four years of failure” response from Pritzker.
Re-elect Rauner and we get another four years of failure and gridlock.

This ad says “let me finish the job that I was never able to start”. At some point Rauner has to be able to offer a compelling reason to re-elect him for four more years beyond “Madigan”.

This ad is conceptually ingenious and extremely well executed. These guys are top notch. It’s effective and maintains the narrative that everyone around us is doing well, and we’re not.
People who see this will mostly agree with it. If Rauner were smart, he’d stay home and let this crew take care of all of the communications.

Nope, not even close. MJM is not going to be on the ballot against the Gov — MJM will be a candidate in the 22nd House District.
While many voters have an opinion on MJM the old saying that voters hate congress but love their congressman in still in play.

“Pat Quinn failed”
This ad is saying “Bruce Rauner failed”… As… “everyone around us is doing well, and we’re not.”
This isn’t a door you should want to open as an incumbent governor.
“We fail, our neighbor state governors say we fail. But Madigan”
… and Rauner sits at 63% disapproval.
Dangerous game of chicken. Could backfire.
But, Dems as a whole will let it slide…

Lol. I had a feeling you’d like this one too.
Another way to look at this is that Rauner is inept, that a diminutive septuagenarian grandfather has out-worked, out-smarted and out-maneuvered the hapless Governor. It reinforces that Rauner is a failure, don’t you think?
And compounding the issue, doesn’t this make finding any compromise in the General Assembly impossible? How does Rauner plan to salvage his final year in office?
But as long as it gets a good chuckle, right?

The wages paid in neighboring states are lower, but so is the cost of living. When your groceries, utilities and gasoline cost less, you will find people who can manage on a smaller paycheck without complaining. If the government delivers constituent services more efficiently that is a plus too.

Holcomb didn’t forget, he just correctly noticed that it was the weeniest TUFF GUY talk ever put in print. He only said it when pressed, he stumbled over his words, he added in so many qualifiers. Rauner might as well have given himself a wedgie.

Dakota, were in recession — GDP shrinkage of more than 3% — 1st quarter 16 to 1st quarter 17 due to dependence on ag commodities.
Curiously, their governors and legislatures have done nothing about international commodity deflation.

Rauner is a working class man of the people who also is a corporate union buster and has other union busters speaking for him.
Wisconsin’s economy is not “on fire,” having posted job losses in four months, between March-September 2017. The same thing happened with Indiana. So Scott Walker is flat-out lying.
Minnesota, Colorado and California have had fewer recent months with job losses.
Any time Democrats want to seize on this, don’t let anyone stop you. It’s really not that hard to do.

Arsenal- there is no getting around it but the pension obligations are akin to a giant vacuum sucking up every new revenue dollar. Goes a long way to explain to QC Lib why there is no money to spend on social services. And as the actuaries have told us- it only gets worse from here. Every taxpayer in Illinois is working to fund pension beneficiaries at every level of State and local government. Just ask Preckwinkle

It’s not failure to lead. It’s failure to be led. Mike Madigan has been in charge of Illinois for decades. Reform needs to happen. Going back to the good old days of a Democratic Governor AND Madigan/Cullerton isn’t the answer.

Sue 0 for 2 today. Only 12% of the pension debt goes to beneficiaries. The rest of it, the majority is debt service then the lowering of the assumptions and then unexpected.
But go ahead and keep blaming the good people who work every day for this state.

Tone deaf ad puts the callous, uncompassionate corporate GOP on full display. They apparently have no shame that they would willingly watch neighbors suffer if it means more power for their own party. Nothing about this ad makes me like Rauner’s ILGOP more.

Sue, like the governor, you can explain away all day why there is no money. But all I can hear is the crying of a mother who lost her son to addiction because Rauner wouldn’t work with the GA to pass a budget.
These are real lives, not a political point. And this governor spent two years saying they don’t matter.
