  1. IPI’s, because I like cartoons.

Comment by Arsenal Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 3:32 pm

  2. This is tough. I voted IPI because it’s clever and makes you think a bit. Proft cuts right to the chase and hits you over the head with a hammer as he’s wont to do.

Comment by Pundent Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 3:35 pm

  3. Both ads say the same thing, but the IPI ad has a touch of creativity to it.

Comment by wordslinger Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 3:35 pm

  4. It’s a landslide so far -

Comment by doofusguy Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 3:38 pm

  5. It’s a shame there weren’t any clues that Rauner was just a big phony the first time around…

  6. IPIs because it’s the same message but funnier.

Comment by Perrid Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 3:39 pm

  7. Egads, I can’t believe I’m voting for an IPI inspired activity. As Word said, it’s more creative. You also get the message much quicker.

Comment by Norseman Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 3:39 pm

  8. You don’t need the words to understand IPI’s point. Proft’s photo could be used by Rauner in one of his ads. If I am skimming social media andd see Proft’s, I would just assume it is a pro-Rauner ad. IPI’s is much more effective.

Comment by Montrose Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 3:40 pm

  9. It’s IPI.

The simplicity of the art and the embarrassment factor is higher with the tricycle.

It also mocks Rauner’s costumes too, subtly, but pointedly.

    They win

Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 3:42 pm

  10. These photo op mistakes take me back to the Michael Dukakis campaign.

Comment by Claude Peppers Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 3:45 pm

  11. IPI - simple, effective, brutally honest.

Comment by Aimtomisbehave Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 3:48 pm

  12. The cartoon is very good. I found myself looking for training wheels on both vehicles. They wouldn’t have helped the Governor over the last few years. He seems to lose his balance no matter what he is doing.

Comment by Retired Educator Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 3:48 pm

  13. IPI. Noticed he has a label under the flag (naturally) GOVERNOR. Should have “ “. He looks like a kook.

Comment by Anonymous Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 3:51 pm

  14. IPI Because it’s hilarious. Love the tricycle

    Comment by L.A. Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 3:57 pm

  15. Didn’t vote because it’s a tie… both ads reveal that the IPI and Proft played along with Rauner’s act the first time around - they knew he was a phony from the get go.

    Comment by We'll See Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 3:57 pm

  16. IPI’s ad is instantly recognizable and impactful as a “burn” so I put it ahead of the other.

BTW, IPI has created a closed Facebook Group linked to its main, open group that is called “Illinois Policy Activists.”

Comment by yinn Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 3:58 pm

  17. IPI- just a glance tells you volumes. Proft’s isn’t too bland.

    Comment by Anon221 Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 3:59 pm

  18. As of 4:00pm Dan Proft at 5%. Sounds about right:)

Comment by Ducky LaMoore Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 4:02 pm

  19. IPI, for certain. The messaging is identical but humor always make the message stick.

Comment by Dome Gnome Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 4:03 pm

  20. IPI. Not even close. Proft is typically humorless.

Comment by Arthur Andersen Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 4:03 pm

  21. The IPI cartoon, if for no other reason than it is sort of ironic given the amount of trouble IPI cartoons have caused the Gov of late.

Comment by The Way I See It Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 4:03 pm

  22. Are motorcycle helmets supposed to resemble German helmets from WW2?

Comment by perrier Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 4:15 pm

  23. I am in the clear minority. To me, it’s the picture of Rauner (not what Proft says) that is so ridiculous. That isn’t a cartoon that someone else drew to make fun of him. That is actually him (exclamation point). He actually dressed himself up like that. And he wants people to view him that way.

That, to me, speaks much louder than a cheeky cartoon from the IPI. That image of Bruce is so much more original.

Truth is stranger than fiction . . .

Comment by Henry Francis Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 4:16 pm

  24. He looks sillier in upstream, and I’m not really sure where Gov. Junk gets off wearing my Eagle, Globe, and Anchor.

Comment by igotgotgotgotnotime Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 4:17 pm

This is really good stuff. Well said.

Since “Dad’s Home State” revolved around “Bruce” and “Diana” and how their fiction is mocked as truth.

Great observation. I agreed and I didn’t even realize it.

Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 4:19 pm

  26. IPI’s. It’s funnier, and Proft’s text is weak.

Comment by JoanP Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 4:22 pm

  27. IPI’s cartoon actually makes you look at it and realize their point. Cartoons are fun to look at. Proft’s ad just makes him sound like a jilted lover.

Comment by BucknIrish Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 4:22 pm

  28. IPI because it says it all perfectly!!

Comment by State Worker Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 4:25 pm

  29. Neither, I just can’t vote for IPI or Proft.

Comment by Ahoy! Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 4:26 pm

  30. =To me, it’s the picture of Rauner (not what Proft says) that is so ridiculous.=

This is why I was conflicted. The cartoon is clever, but at the same time the real Bruce looks so “cartoonish” he needs no embellishment. I could see this picture appearing on late night TV with a host saying, “and here’s a picture of Illinois’ governor” and it would get laughs.

Comment by Pundent Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 4:30 pm

  31. IPI, for creativity and editorial type style.

Comment by Wensicia Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 4:34 pm

  32. I voted for IPI. The cartoon is funny, but also very hard hitting. If I’m Bruce, i hate that cartoon.

Comment by Anon Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 4:36 pm

  33. IPI because I think it’s a good tie in to the White House day care analogy.

    Comment by Flynn's mom Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 4:39 pm

  34. I voted Proft strictly on all of the “flair”.

Comment by JS Mill Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 4:41 pm

  35. I wonder if Rauner has an opinion about this cartoon?

Comment by Anonymous Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 4:45 pm

  36. I guess IPI just figured out what everyone else has known all along.

Comment by Jerry Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 5:35 pm

  37. Cartoon is instant and unforgetable.

Comment by VanillaMan Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 5:59 pm

  38. IPI.

Funny, creative, memorable while being both subtle and minimalist. No need to explain it.

It’s just about as perfect an example of a political cartoon as you can get.

Comment by RNUG Thursday, Nov 2, 17 @ 6:50 pm

  39. Igotgotgotgotnotime…i thought the same thing….
