After the unexpectedly massive House override vote of Gov. Rauner’s veto of Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s Illinois Student Loan Bill of Rights today (98-16) the House Republican Leader helped the governor avoid a totally horrible veto session by stopping this right to work zone bill.

It has to he true. I read it on the internet. It was confirmed in the CapFax. A certain RTW state experienced greater union growth than its neighbor state. What’s all the fuss?
Let’s show ‘em fellow brothers and sisters. Only union made products under the Christmas tree. Only union performed trades on that roof,deck,car repair. Let’s show ‘em how it really works.
Let’s demand that those Amazon workers are organized. No cards. No tax dollars.

The key is stopping 2 in 5 union households voting Rauner…
The key is getting 2 in 5 union households down to 1 in 4 or even down to 1 in 5 (20% from 40% previous)
The fact that labor needed to teach Quinn a lesson… and got Rauner… what did labor learn?
We will see. We will see who remembers.

Union households will be affected less by this than the tax hikes Democrats keep bragging about as a “big win” over Rauner.

I’m being honest OW we’ve been working crazy hard at this in the Southwest Illinois region. Here we’re down to 1 in 10 if not better. DOC folks who comprised the majority of the previous 2 in 5 loath Rauner with an unbridled hatred and this override failure locks it in for the trades. Also lack of a capital bill. I’ve assembled a HUGE canvas crew already. And from my work with the Labor councils we’re seeing the same all over.
I’m saying 1 in 10 statewide

Functionally means very little, as a Federal Court decision earlier this year deemed local RTW laws illegal, but symbolically, GOP union members can’t help but feel like their party is incapable of not sticking it to them. If Drury had shown, Cabello probably would have rolled. 71 is more than 70+1.

It’s disheartening when you have a group of men and women who are only dues payers and haven’t paid their dues. They are soundbite generation who care about themselves. Still can’t get them to go out to a labor rally because everything else is more important.

Drury is a total disgrace. Doesn’t show up for work, but wants a promotion. That AG poll that has him at 4% might end up being generous.

Had Yingling been present for the first override vote, this wouldn’t be an issue. Drury and 65 other Dems were in atttendance and voted yes for the first override. Agree it’s unfortunate that all the Dems weren’t present today. Wonder what the strategy was for calling both override votes with Dems missing.

-honey-bear- in what world is southwestern labor voting at 9-10 ratio?? If that was even close to right we would have CJ In the 12th, Madison county would not have turn red, we would be winning the northern metro races but more then one or two points. We need to look at our membership in realistic eyes

Ron, no. taking power away from workers is not common sense, it is not obviously correct. Trying to get more lower quality jobs, which is all RTW does, does very little to help anybody except business owners, the minority, at the expense of workers, the majority. That’s not common sense; that’s the opposite of common sense.

Perrid, is that why Illinois has had one of the worst job growth rates in the nation? Indiana is gaining union workers and Illinois is losing them.
One of those states is RTW.

I still wouldn’t count on any local right-to-work zones coming to Illinois anytime soon. The court case with the Rauner-backed guinea pig for this experiment will continue.

Applecity, that was then. This is now. Facts on the ground have changed. We were barely organized last election. We only pulled it out for Stuart. And we won. Election efforts started up hard core 6months ago. I can personally attest to dozens of meetings and events on just the election efforts and it’s still a year out. Roll out to rank and file has already started.

Honeybear— do worry I am very involved but I just wonder where the numbers come from, union turn out in Southern Illinois was bad at best in 2016. I am just trying to figure out where the data came from. I mean we have not had an election since then

McAuliffe’s needs to go. It must be more important for him to keep favor with the governor who bankrolled much of his last campaign and gave his mother-in-law a state job than representing working men and women in his district. Also without being in the General Assembly, it is doubtful that his wife would continue to get big contracts. He needs to go.
