* This tweet has been popping up in my feed all day…
Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL) says he’s worried congressional offices will hire fewer women to avoid issue of sexual harassment.
— Amanda Terkel (@aterkel) November 14, 2017
* Everybody loves to immediately scream with righteous fury these days. The twitters went bonkers. But, as it turns out, the reporter should’ve been a lot more clear…
For the record, Davis is not saying he will do this. He said he had female staffers who were concerned about this. That's why he asked what to do about it. https://t.co/ToIWoSVKnN

And Davis specifically said: "Obviously that's not the right approach.” Thought it’s smart that he raised it and asked what is being done to prevent this from happening. https://t.co/6dIlz2Fwly

Everyone chill out on Rep. Rodney Davis. He did not say he will hire fewer women to avoid sexual harassment. He asked how to prevent other offices from doing that.

LOUD YELLING!

As is usually the case, the seemingly sensational but misleading tweet gets 100 times the retweets as the clarification.

Nice to see members of the media get a taste of their own gotcha-medicine once in a while.

Shoddy journalism.
For the record, Amanda, if you can’t accurately convey an idea in a tweet, perhaps you should really stretch your writing chops and scribble up and post a few paragraphs.

This is Mrs Blue. It is the truth.

The original tweet says he’s “worried.” I really don’t understand how anyone can impartially think that means that he will do it, or endorses doing it? Sure it could have been clearer but the implication of the statement is that he thinks that would be bad.
Comment by Perrid Tuesday, Nov 14, 17 @ 12:47 pm
And one of the democrats running against Davis, Betsy Londrigan, completely embarrassed herself on twitter about this.

You answered your own question right there.

I took it exactly as meant when I read it. Of course I didn’t read it while looking for something to hate BECAUSE HE’S A REPUBLICAN AND SOOOO EVIL!!!
He made a statement that is a serious concern. She said “he’s worried” which would seem to be pretty clear that Davis thinks it would be bad.
People aren’t reading this stuff anymore, they’re just looking for something to hate from an “enemy”.

This was my take.
If I said I was worried voters will skip the primary election, would anyone think I planned to skip that election? Of course not.
I know it’s Twitter, but the words still work the same way.

I think her wording was fine. Folks find what they are looking for.

Incorrectly assuming the worst in people because of their political party affiliation results in staggering displays of bad journalism.
To have believed that anyone would have made such a remark exposes the believer as a gullible biased mope.

Was her initial tweet really that unclear?
Seemed pretty clear to me, and like a perfectly reasonable concern. I don’t say that very often about republicans, either.
You’re really searching for a political cheap shot if you take the initial tweet to mean that Rodney won’t hire women.
