New Proft TV ad claims Durkin and Madigan “like Illinois state government just as it is”

Posted in:

* Background is here. I’m told this Dan Proft Liberty Principles PAC spot is running on cable TV in House Republican Leader Jim Durkin’s district

* Script…

Jim Durkin and Mike Madigan like Illinois state government just as it is.

Madigan makes millions as a property tax appeals attorney. Your property taxes go up to finance the relief Madigan gets his friends.

Durkin gets rich as a municipal attorney by getting local governments to borrow money. Your property taxes go up to finance the debt Durkin gets local governments to pile up.

Madigan and Durkin play the same game so they’re financed by the same insiders.

They work together against you.

Madigan and Durkin get rich. You get gamed.

It isn’t a pretty picture.

If you’re tired of looking at it, Vote no on Jim Durkin.

Rate it.

  1. Like all ads from Dan Proft’s outfit, F-.

  2. 1/10

Way too wordy. Typical Proft level of production quality (i.e. zero).

  3. Dear lord is that awful. Way, way too many words. Dilutes the message. F.

  4. I’ll rate it in a second…

Proft is against Durkin for siding with Rauner, Proft is also against members who broke with Rauner on the budget.

That’s always the context of Proft.

    To the rating?

    It’s a “C-“… “Why?”

Proft has 10 weeks to try to tarnish Durkin with weak sauce that those in his district will dismiss that know Jim Durkin.

Those who may not know Durkin and will vote in the Primary may beieve it, but how big of a universe is that… with this hyperbole?

    It’s a “C-“

  5. It’s not a great effort. If you’ve got to talk that fast (that says something in and of itse lf), you either need to cut some words or buy more time. The production value is weak with stills throughout. It’ll irritate who it intends to irritate, but it won’t motivate anyone who’s not already in the flash mob conducting this foolish mission.

  6. 10/10 That photo merge at the beginning and end was James Cameronesque s/

Comment by BucknIrish Tuesday, Nov 21, 17 @ 11:35 am

  7. I give it a C based on production value and the voice over moves too quick.
The message is solid red meat out here in the burbs. Madigan is truly blamed for all the problems in Illinois.

  8. I’ve heard car dealership legal disclaimers that were read slower.

  9. Man oh man
    This “crisis/corruption” perfidy
    Is for all the marbles
    That’s why the labor
    Door to door
    Neighbor to neighbor
    Friend to friend
    Is
    The
    Innoculant.

    Remember ILGOP
    The price of perfidy
    Is trust

    How many still trust Rauner?
Can enough green college Republicans be hired to counter labors ground game?

    The ad is an F
    Attacking Durkin only highlights
    The perfidy
    The Lies
Durkin was elected in his district.
    All politics is local
    He was elected leader
    Now he’s bad?
    Bad bad bad move
    Perfidy apparent.

  10. F. Dan proft is an amateur. His ads are consistently the worst on TV. Used car salesmen have better ads. And are more noble than he is.

Comment by John Rawlssss Tuesday, Nov 21, 17 @ 11:43 am

  11. A.

Ties Durkin to Madigan in a believable way. Both are insiders. It’s a believable message that will resonate.

Comment by Phil King Tuesday, Nov 21, 17 @ 11:46 am

  12. I think Proft cheaps out the ads so he can pocket the money. He’s all in with the unions helping Staub so he can pay Durkin back but he and the IPI crowd attacked any Republican who took union money. He thinks that’s gonna fly?

Comment by not guilty Tuesday, Nov 21, 17 @ 11:52 am

  13. ==He thinks that’s gonna fly?==

The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Despite his reputation on this blog, Proft does seem to be able to pragmatically pick his battles.

Defeating a sell out insider who is the LEADER is more important to him in the long term than a single pro-union Republican.

Comment by Phil King Tuesday, Nov 21, 17 @ 11:58 am

  14. I rate it a “C” - as in, See you later Proft. You and your tiny merry band of nihilists are relegating yourselves to the dustbin of Illinois political history. The crazy uncle sugar daddies are cutting you off. Where do you go after going down in flames in the February primary?

Comment by Bored Chairman Tuesday, Nov 21, 17 @ 12:00 pm

  15. Just like Proft’s grades at Benet Academy… barely passing. D-

Comment by Just Visiting Tuesday, Nov 21, 17 @ 12:10 pm

  16. Glad to see Proft has not abandoned his ’60’s tech savvy and message. Now roll out SingleMom to tell the story.

Comment by Annonin Tuesday, Nov 21, 17 @ 12:34 pm

  17. Proft must know his production quality stinks, right? Right?

Comment by Sigh Tuesday, Nov 21, 17 @ 12:53 pm

  18. == Defeating a sell out insider who is the LEADER is more important to him in the long term than a single pro-union Republican. =
Wishful thinking. Proft’s stinky opportunism wins him no fans here or anywhere else. He uses someone else’s cash to buy loyalty and that only goes so far.

Comment by not guilty Tuesday, Nov 21, 17 @ 12:58 pm

  19. Proft likes Illinois just the way it is.

He’s got an old sugar daddy who digs grievance-peddling dirty talk and gives him millions to produce the absolutely worst political media anywhere, bar none.

How could you have your name associated with this stuff? It’s like “SCTV,” but it’s not satire. They’re doing the best they can for realsies, lol.

Comment by wordslinger Tuesday, Nov 21, 17 @ 1:03 pm

  20. I give it a F. Its laughable that you can write a bs article in your own bs newspaper and then site it as a source in your bs ad.

Beyond all of that, like others have pointed out, the ad is way too long and looks hokey in comparison to the higher quality stuff that’s being created with the influx of money coming into IL politics. This ad looks like amateur hour.

Also good to know that Phil King is Proft’s handle for Cap Fax.

    Comment by Alex P. Keaton Tuesday, Nov 21, 17 @ 1:08 pm

  21. 109 words in a thirty-second ad. That’s way too many to keep the message from becoming lost. The ad gets an “F” on the copy writing alone.

Comment by Osborne Smith III Tuesday, Nov 21, 17 @ 1:25 pm

  22. C. Way too wordy. The narrator has to talk so fast he sounds like someone reading a disclaimer at the end a pharmaceutic ad.

Tying Durkin to Madigan obviously makes total sense, even if it is tortured logic. So this is good on strategy, but lousy on execution.

Though hearing Gene Honda’s voice does give me the warm feeling of being at a White Sox game.

Comment by Roman Tuesday, Nov 21, 17 @ 1:27 pm

  23. Is Proft’s position that every Leader, of any sort, in Springfield, is “corrupt” by definition?

Comment by Anonymous Tuesday, Nov 21, 17 @ 1:45 pm

  24. Honestly, I wish more accountants were in office rather than lawyers. Look where it’s gotten us.
