Cooking for about 15-20.
Most of the relatives coming over prefer to speak a language other than English, so I’m comfortable in the kitchen.
I enjoy it.

No plans beside having family come over for the eatapalooza that is in millions of homes on Thanksgiving. Glad and thankful everyone made it through another year.

Just took the Amtrak home to Alton from Chicago. The train can’t be called high speed (higher speed perhaps), but the new stations are quite impressive.

Wednesday - baking one of my deceased mom’s unique cookie recipes, with a batch going to my sister and my son’s families. Also taking the grandkid’s to Festival of Trees since they are scheduled to spend the rest of the weekend at their other grandparents (who don’t get to see them.that often due to living out of town).
Although we have invitations, probably just spending Thanksgiving Day with Mrs RNUG. Maybe try to get the Christmas tree up; it’s my year to put up the aluminum tree with the color wheels. And the lights / decorations on the house.

Going to run around tonight and collect some signatures from the good Democrats of Le Roy for Jen McMillin. Then I’m going to pick up our fresh Le Roy raised turkey from Four Peanuts Produce. Tomorrow I’m going to see about desserts and hang with my kiddos. Bob will smoke that turkey at some point. Thursday will be food & family. Saturday we’ll probably put up & light the tree and Sunday we’ll decorate it. Then we’ll watch Elf and eat delicious leftovers.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!
I will be enjoying time with my family, and especially my Granddaughter who still thinks Grandpa is a cool guy. She is 10 and growing up too fast. Will cook two turkeys, from Yordy Turkey farm, and will try my hand at a mincemeat pie. I will also reflect on those things I am thankful for while I am preparing the meal for family.

We’re going to a relative’s house for dinner this year. All we have to do is show up and bring a vegetable dish and an appetizer. Will come home with lots of yummy leftovers. Since it is not being used this year I just delivered our gigantic vintage turkey roaster to a friend’s house so she can properly cook the turkey to feed her extended family on Thursday.
Happy and blessed Thanksgiving to all.

The usual stuff. But may just take a little extra time to be a little more thankful this year for some really wonderful people and things that have made the past year special personally. Spend a little extra time looking up and thanking some special folks there too.

Both of the kids will be home for the weekend and going to a relatives house for the feast. I’ll spend the weekend putting up Xmas lights and maybe make a batch of beer.

Nothing much. My family is far-flung and so come in at Christmas rather than Turkey Day. I used to give an open house on the weekend, but got tired of people who a) didn’t RSVP or, b) said they were coming and never showed. So I’m not doing that any more.
I will observe Black Friday by staying as far away from stores as possible, and instead give a couple of historic home tours.

@Honeybear -
If you are at Robie House on Friday on the 11:30 or 12:30 tour, I’ll be your guide! Say “hi!”

Pondering the deep questions. In this case, what happens to turkeys pardoned by presidents? They never get eaten? They die of old age? Who takes care of them?

Small family meal, to be cooked by moi - ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes & gravy, sweet potatoes, Brussels sprouts with lemon zest, cranberry sauce, etc. etc. Offspring no. 1 is flying in from NYC for five days, can’t wait. Family dinner (out) on Sunday for my mother’s 100th birthday …

Boy, did you ring my chime on that one, JoanP. Like you, the buffet or dessert open houses here (which we used to love to host) are a thing of the past. And for exactly the same reason.
Comment by Responsa Tuesday, Nov 21, 17 @ 4:10 pm
Traditional noon happy hour around a fire pit with four families while turkeys are in a pair of fryers. Then everyone heads back to their respective houses for the eatin’ before the main core comes back together for a pretty sweet evening shindig. I love my neighborhood.
