Phew. When you yank the toilets out of your mansion to save on taxes Number 1 can be ok but Number 2 can be a real problem.

  6. Ballot order is usually meaningless in high-profile races, but Quinn grabbing the top spot in that crowed field? Look out.

  12. Quinn will be an interesting AG. And even though I really really don’t want a Rauner win if he does win I want Quinn in too

  13. The sexual harassment, pay disparity and downright mistreatment of women in the Quinn administration is legendary. BRING. IT. ON.

  15. I was going to vote for Ruiz for AG. But Quinn has done so much for the working and middle-class,that I must support him instead.

For governor, I support Kenendy over Rauner. But if the Illinois Dems give it to Pritzker, I will support Rauner in the GE

Comment by FearTheTree Wednesday, Dec 13, 17 @ 3:49 pm

  16. Pat Quinn on top, too funny. When he’s AG does he still want to go by Governor Quinn or Attorney General Quinn, asking for Cook County Committeemen.

  20. ==If Quinn wins the primary say hello to AG Erica Harold==

Don’t count your chickens…Quinn has high name recognition and the money and attention will be on the Gov race. Like him or not, it’s Quinn’s race to lose.

  21. “But if the Illinois Dems give it to Pritzker, I will support Rauner in the GE”

Well that makes sense. I like one rich guy but really don’t like the other rich guy so I’m going to vote for the third rich guy with a proven history of screwing the poor, social services and state as a whole.

    Comment by Anon0091 Wednesday, Dec 13, 17 @ 4:12 pm

  22. Rich, I hope you’re right. What this state DOESN’T need is four years of ANYTHING related to Pat Quinn.

  23. Pat’s gonna back right into this nomination, isn’t he?

  24. Quinn State Officer bingo.

Comment by Amalia Wednesday, Dec 13, 17 @ 4:39 pm

  25. I dunno with Quinn. Obviously the highest name ID, but does anyone who recognizes his name actually have a positive opinion of him? Who is the Pat Quinn constituency?

For most Democrats I know, seeing Pat Quinn will lead them to vote for essentially anyone else.

Comment by PJ Wednesday, Dec 13, 17 @ 4:43 pm

  26. === Like him or not, It’s Quinn’s race to lose. ===

Finally, a job Pat Quinn is good at.

Quinn has great name recognition, and it is mostly tarnished.

How can a guy who thought that withholding lawmakers’ pay and stealing workers’ pensions was Constitutional be a attorney General? How can we trust him as AG when he blew through tens of millions of dollars in violence prevention money with no measurable results? How about the corrupt appointment of patronage workers to IDOT? A convicted felon to run DCFS?

Harold will spend all of her time on the southside and West’s identity talking about NRI, DCFS, and how Quinn wanted to strip teachers and other public workers of their retirement — while providing big tax breaks to corporations. Proft will print Pritzker/Harold yard signs. There might even be an Erika Harold/Harold Washington TV ad for the Chicago market. “a new Harold for a new Illinois.”

No. If Quinn is the nominee, Harold will win the election, and it won’t be close. People will roll the dice with her before they give him another shot.

Comment by Juvenal Wednesday, Dec 13, 17 @ 4:44 pm

  27. ===I dunno with Quinn. Obviously the highest name ID, but does anyone who recognizes his name actually have a positive opinion of him? Who is the Pat Quinn constituency?===

Quinn, if he gets 35-38% in this field the way it may shake out… that means 62-68% didn’t vote for Quinn… and he may win as that majority is split among the others.

“The more in, the better for Quinn”

Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, Dec 13, 17 @ 4:46 pm

  28. As someone disappointed at the low level of AG Madigan and Rauner conflict, I’m hoping for AG Quinn and Ives conflict starting in 2019

Comment by Swift Wednesday, Dec 13, 17 @ 4:50 pm

  29. 2018 will be a D tidal wave all over the U.S. I don’t think Quinn or any other D on the ballot can lose the AG race.

Comment by Freddie Manfredi Wednesday, Dec 13, 17 @ 4:57 pm

  30. @Oswego Willy

Good analysis, but I think you might have a winner with only 25%. In this crowded field, tough to break 30. I think Topinka won 2006 nomination with 27%.

Comment by Yellow Dog Democrat Wednesday, Dec 13, 17 @ 5:01 pm

  31. Quinn has a base with veteran groups and with the LGBTQ community. His work with Gold Star families was from the heart. He supported gay marriage and sexual orientation was a non-issue in his administration.

Quinn learned on the job and became a better governor over time. He has a good shot at winning.

Comment by Last Bull Moose Wednesday, Dec 13, 17 @ 5:20 pm

  32. I know a lot of people don’t like Quinn, but he was a mostly competent administrator. He might turn out to he a decent AG … it would fit with his record of crusading for various causes. And he might not be too had on the actual law; after all, he has experience in what not to do in the Governor’s office.

Comment by RNUG Wednesday, Dec 13, 17 @ 5:53 pm

  33. Where can we find ballot position for down ballot races?

Comment by Stan Wednesday, Dec 13, 17 @ 6:02 pm

  34. I very very rarely have voted R (mostly bc if the national party), but if it is Quinn v Harold, I’m probably pulling the R lever.

Why can’t Pat just go away?

  35. there should be a law prohibiting this…uggh

  37. I’ve been away from this blog for months (Aug.). What’s the background on Mariotti?

Comment by Property of IDOC Wednesday, Dec 13, 17 @ 9:29 pm

  38. “I know a lot of people don’t like Quinn, but he was a mostly competent administrator,”

Wow, RNUG, this is probably the first time I’ve read something you’ve written and thought, “what the hell is he talking about?” Quinn was a terrible administrator. He couldn’t hire worth a damn. He hamstrung procurement issues by piling on political cronies who didn’t give a damn about the rules on top of the professionals who did. His grant administration was a disaster in many cases. The quality of some of his top people was good but below the surface, woh boy was there a ton of dreck. In short, it’s not remotely possible for me to disagree with you any stronger.

Pat was a disaster as governor and would be even worse as AG. The law was not his friend and it’s a terrifying prospect of him as AG.
