Feigenholtz, Flowers, or K. Burke for Majority Leader? With the recent news climate, picking a woman seems like the smart decision. Especially when Lisa Madigan retires, there will be no visible Democratic woman in a position of power. Maybe I’m just naive…

Classy move by the Cardinals trading Piscotty to the A’s so he can be closer to his mother diagnosed with ALS.

Susana Mendoza says hi. So do Litesa Wallace or Julianna Stratton.
But, yea, MJM would be smart to choose a woman for that position.

13 veterans/spouses dead. What did Governor Rauner know and when did he know it?
Comment by Gettysburgaddress Friday, Dec 15, 17 @ 9:32 am
So the Governor only won by 2% in 2014 against Quinn. Considering many Union employees were either upset with Quinn or just did not vote. This time around the majority of union employees and family member will probably vote against Rauner. Many Republicans are upset about the Medicare abortion issue.
What makes Rauner think he even has a chance?

Ever wonder what Willy, or Wordslinger, or Michelle F. Or Honeybear look like? Here’s an idea that could generate some moola for Rich’s Lutheran Social Service Charity Fund. Place 10 pictures of the decided upon regular commenters, and have their nicknames across the way, out of order. The winner is the one who not only gets all 10 matched correctly, but has the best/funniest/most profound short commentary on each by participant guessers. It’s an honor system. All guessers will donate at least $10 to the charity. Anonymous commenters sometimes get slammed for not having a nickname, so now is the time for those especially to step up for a good cause and put your best face forward and demonstrate another type of ‘coming out’. I am Anonymous, so mine will be easy….a blank space. I know this time of year is slow and boring, so just thought I’d throw this out for you’s.

Let’s play everyone’s favorite parlor game. Who will be the next Speaker?
Comment by L Friday, Dec 15, 17 @ 9:49 am
There’s a union telephone call to the members Monday night about back pay and missed steps. Will there be anything of substance or will they just tell us to be patient because they’re working on it?

should the Sox take Manny Machado? or have they already?

Well, they did last time, too. Rauner won 2/5 unions households, which means Quinn won the majority of them.
Will Rauner win less union votes?…probably? But how much less matters, and not every union member, certainly not every union household, votes on labor issues. Plenty of them vote on cultural issues, and while Rauner’s surrendered the advantage he had on one of those (Abortion), there’s still more.

As commented above, 2 in 5 already voted against Rauner. If it gets to 1 in 5 or 1 in 6, that would be a huge moving of the needle, given the trade laborers.
The real issue is… will Labor get behind whoever the Dem nominee is, and understand “anyone but Rauner” for labor is critical.
“We’ll see”…

If you’re in the Chicago area at happy hour, Robbie Fulks is sitting in with the Hoyle Brothers at the Empty Bottle from 5:30 to 7:30 tonight.
If there’s a better way to kick-off a weekend, I don’t know it.

I’ve thought about that, but does pulling an R in the primary become public knowledge and can it hurt you if you want to run as a D for anything in the future? Can you successfully explain something like this Away?

Registered voters, their voting history and the primary ballot they pulled is a matter of public record. That is the only time a party affiliation can be noted, but the voter could always as for the opposite ballot in the next primary.

Remember when Jimmy Edger floated the open primary idea years ago. Maybe we should have a debate about that idea.

Art Turner
Comment by NorthsideNoMore Friday, Dec 15, 17 @ 12:20 pm
I can’t tell if NorthsideNoMore is someone recommending Art Turner as Speaker, or if it’s him saying he is game. I first met Art when he was elected to the GA as a third year law student. He was very cool and likeable.
