* Rep. Jeanne Ives at the City Club of Chicago…
What the commercial that is generating the expected hysteria from the expected quarters attempted to do — admittedly, provocatively — was to properly and truthfully characterize the extreme issue positions Rauner took and their implications. The commercial does not attack people. It tackles issues by truthfully illustrating the constituencies Rauner has chosen to serve to the exclusion of others.
* Rep. David McSweeney endorsed his fellow Republican state Rep. Ives for governor back in January. He is a solid Ives supporter, but he now wants her to take down her new TV ad…

One more day of free press… then you take it down?
Need one more day of controversy, no?

McSweeney is a player to the crowd. He will say anything to make himself look good. I got a message that he would put forth a bill to reduce the new income tax. He was simply playing to the hysteria. How is that bill coming McSweeney?

==does not attack people==
Yeah, it does. And it also marginalizes people that she views as undesirable to her social order.

I think it’s clear the purpose of the spot was to titillate Sugar Daddy Dick out of $2 million. Proft knows what that dude’s into.
Comment by wordslinger Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 3:28 pm
Where’s the check for $2.5 million, McSweeney? Then Ives will run your super serious ad that gets your shared anti-trans, anti-Chicago, anti-immigrant, anti-abortion message across.

Not sure you can separate the issues from the people there, like he is trying to do. You can’t attack an issue about people’s rights, or what they see as their rights, without attacking those people.
Comment by Perrid Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 3:29 pm
BTW — serious issues shouldn’t be satirized?
What the heck? Lived much in the past 500 years? Like, you mean, “serious” stuff is off-limits? What, you’re the pope now?
As HST always said: when the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The ad reflects Ives’ worldview, and it seems pretty clear that she does not understand why it offends a lot of (probably most of) the people who see it. 1) Rauner’s positions on those issues covered in the ad are not “extreme” to most people, but they are to Ives. 2) The portrayal of people in the ad is gross and extreme to most people, but not to Ives.
From what I have seen and heard of Ives over the years, the ad is an accurate view of how she sees the world.

To sharpen my point even better…
What is the difference between McSweeney and Proft?
Start with everything about this ad…
Comment by Oswego Willy Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 3:42 pm
Maybe the real problem lately is keeping the hate pipeline primed. I mean, there’s so much coming from POTUS that, ya know, it’s clogging the pipe. Like a hairball followed by a clump of old rice. Hairball gets stuck, and it blocks everything.
I suggest the GOP consider the logistical implications of the hate Draino. I mean, come on, for the hate to flow, ya gotta keep the pipe open. Trump first, then Ives.
This, I think, is what’s going on with McSweeney’s noise. Too much of a good thing requires constant oversight. It’s exhausting, no?
One bit of hate a time, please. Ives needs to step back in the queue.

Leave up the ad.
If your not a progressive liberal democrat, you find a lot of truth in it, besides how funny it is. If your offended, that says more about you than about others.
(And as always, I am not racist or homophobic. I am for respecting the laws of nature, and pro-legal immigration. And, of course my post will probably never see the light of day.)

It’s funny to denigrate certain members of society? You’ve got an odd sense of humor.
==If your offended, that says more about you than about others.==
I think if you’re not offended that says a lot about you than it says about others.
==I am for respecting==
I am for respecting other human beings, not marginalizing them.
==I am not racist or homophobic==
If you’re worried about being viewed that way then you probably are.
==And, of course my post will probably never see the light of day.==
Stop being a victim.

When did McSweeney become a progressive, liberal democrat?
At least you left God out of your “I’m not a…” self-serving rationalizations this time.
Comment by wordslinger Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 4:59 pm
At least he had to good sense to say take it down. Skillicorn, Wheeler, and Morrison are still riding the “spark conversation” tactic. Like Rich said, no one say the Tribune Debate, everyone saw the ad. Bad form.
Comment by Ste_with_a_ven Monday, Feb 5, 18 @ 5:15 pm
Hatemonger, racist, homophobic, deplorable. I am still trying to figure out what a fiscal conservative and progessive is, and ya’ll throw in a bunch of new words I gotta look up.

If the Ives ad is truthful, then the Ives campaign should release the names of people in the ad so that their personalized claims can be verified.

Except for that fact that the ad is filled with lies about legislation it references. Anyone who claims to “find a lot of truth in it” is either intentionally lying, or an absolute moron when it comes to understanding legislation.

McSweeney comprehends other people and cultures; Ives is apparently blind to them. McSweeney understands Conservative principles; Ives wears them as armor. One is to be respected; the other to be feared.

According to Blair Garber (attempting to rehabilitate himself in time for the County convention and get elected back on the State central committee?), Rauner and Schneider didn’t want him to resign.

Yeah, BATR, it’s just one big happy family over at Illinois Review.
What I didn’t know until this day was that Rauner was a false flag operation, and that he is doing what he does because…… Madigan.
Talk about three-dimensional chess.

Who knew these issues were a laugh riot to some Ives supporters?
Got any other abortion knee-slappers? Everyone likes a good joke.
