Today Republican Gary Grasso, candidate for Illinois Attorney General, launched a new radio advertisement called “Conservative Choice” highlighting the major differences between the two candidates. The :30 second spot points out the fact that Miss Harold has never tied a case since her graduation in 2007.

Republicans, you do have a choice in the race for Attorney General – the tested, experienced and conservative Gary Grasso or the unproven, untested, liberal Miss Erika Harold.

Gary Grasso has been the lead counsel for hundreds of law cases, while Erika Harold has not even tried a single case.

Grasso, a former two term mayor, is proud to be pro-life. Grasso also opposes Illinois’ sanctuary state law.

Vote for Gary Grasso, the clear, conservative choice for Illinois Attorney General.

It’s as misleading as any ad you’ll hear this cycle. Harold may be a lot of things, but only a right wing ideologue would call her a liberal. She is also pro-life, so I fail to see that there is any choice between these two, let alone a clear choice.

All that was missing in this ad was Jeanne Ives’s endorsement.

Harold’s credentials as a trial practitioner do not compare favorably to Grasso.

Admittedly, with Rauner’s blessing, Harold is the favorite. She is personable, but I have no clue about her plans as AG.

Not buying Rauner and Harold when they claim to have driven Lisa into retirement.

It’s a “D+”

I’ve already forgotten it. I had to hear it, I began typing, and then “cheated” to see what the script says.

It’s also blatently disingenuous, along with patronizing to Ms. Harold and the listener/voter.

I’d say “do better” but the point of this exercise wasn’t to be or do better, but try to mislead and patronize, purposely.

I give this a C-. Boring, but passing because it does raise one point.

He hits the typical lines need in a GOP primary — immigrants, abortion. Calling everybody else a liberal is also predictable and boring.

The one good point — trial experience — is lost in the other comments.

To be heard, he will have to stand out. Repeating the points everybody else is making is not going to get people to notice.

That being said, the trial experience should matter to voters. It is tough to supervise trial lawyers unless you’ve done it yourself. Over my career, I’ve a few bosses who have limited or no trial experience, and they really do get in the way when work needs to be done.

@Near West Side, could it also be a shot at her age? Google tells me she is 38 and he is 65, between that and calling himself experienced it could have just been another way of calling her inexperienced. Overall I would give the ad a B, nothing wrong with it but nothing noteworthy either. And she has “never tied a case” huh? I don’t know if the typo was in the original press release or if Rich did it, but it’s slightly amusing.

I would also like to know how many cases Gary Grasso has tried. His ad says only that he has been lead counsel on cases. Not that he’s ever tried a case or won one. Not that it matters because the AG doesn’t try cases herself and most civil litigators try few cases anyway because most things get decided by settlement or dismissal prior to trial.

It’s a fail. Especially among the people he’s stretching to reach. Ms. Harold has been a foremost voice for Pro Lifers in Illinois for quite a while and every pro lifer I know, knows who she is. This guy’s a bit goofy.

In prior years, the dog probably did perk up her ears at the one.

This year though, you’ve got Ives claiming Rauner is a Madigan shill and Rauner claiming Ives is close to Madigan.

Calling your opponent liberal or similar has pretty much lost all meaning this time around.

This could have been a good ad if he focused on the trial experience, but the gratuitous “liberal” charge just makes him sound like he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. And the happy-music setting on the electronic piano is just weird.
