Ives campaign releases book about Rauner

Posted in:

* Press release

The campaign of conservative reform candidate for governor State Rep. Jeanne Ives today released a book entitled The Governor You Don’t Know: The Other Side of Bruce Rauner.

The book provides Republican primary voters a factual history of Governor Rauner’s tenure, bumping his rhetoric up against his policy choices and connecting the dots between the candidate who promised “no social agenda” and an “Illinois Turnaround” with his numerous betrayals.

Authored by Chicago GOP Chairman and Ives Campaign Chairman Chris Cleveland with a foreword by respected conservative State Representative Tom Morrison (R-Palatine), the book provides a succinct and substantiated nine-chapter distillation of an extreme leftist record that Rauner has been able to obfuscate for some with his checkbook.

You can download the book for free by clicking here.

* Included in the new book are some neither-emasculating-nor-sexist-at-all passages like this

Bruce Rauner strongly implied during his campaign that he was a Republican. Though wife Diana was a strong Democrat, it was reasonable for Illinois voters to believe that Gov. Rauner wore the pants in the marriage and would wear them in the Governor’s Mansion.

There appears to have been a wardrobe change. […]

Reports circulated widely that Rauner, true to his campaign pledge, had promised to veto House Bill 40. Among those who received such an assurance was Chicago Catholic Cardinal Blase Cupich. Rauner more than once said he would oppose the legislation because it was “too divisive,” especially as he was in the middle of a critical battle over the budget. Conservatives felt confident that Gov. Rauner had now promised them and effectively promised God that he wouldn’t do anything radical.

But in the end, he chose peace with Diana over the Catholic Church, and he signed the legislation. […]

There was a telling anecdote of Diana’s iron grip on Gov. Rauner in the midst of this battle. Before signing the “free” taxpayer-funded abortion bill, he met with Republican leaders to explain his decision. But he wouldn’t start the meeting until Diana showed up and was seated. It appeared to those present in the room that he was not allowed to speak until Diana had arrived to ensure that he didn’t stray from the decision that they had reached together.

* And then there’s this

(T)here has been a surfeit of “last straws” from Rauner’s term, with each failure (like on immigration) competing to be the most outrageous. Consider:

Um, that bill unanimously passed both chambers, and Rep. Ives voted for it.

* But this isn’t all wrong

That budget battle was a textbook example of how not to govern, of how politicians can dig in their heels while neglecting the public interest. The Democrats (as usual) deserve much of the blame for spending money Illinois doesn’t have. But Gov. Rauner, alleged deal maker and business genius, was simply AWOL when it came to new ideas or strategies. And his rookie political incompetence allowed a HUGE tax increase to pass. His stewardship has been a disservice to the people of Illinois.

  1. I got one in the mail today. I opened the envelope and saw the book. I may look at it after dinner. It doesn’t matter to me Rauner lost my vote long ago.

Does this mean voters should be asking Jeanne’s husband what his stances are? If the man is to wear the pants in the relationship, apparently he is actually the one who will be making the decisions. Grow up, Jeanne and Chris.

  7. –And his rookie political incompetence allowed a HUGE tax increase to pass.–

I’d believe that was incompetence if Rauner had put up any fight to win the override vote. He had a lot of governmental and political weapons at his disposal, and he didn’t pick up one of them.

If I recall, some of the Superstars — before they were suddenly escorted out of the building — were celebrating a win-win; all that new money to spend, none of the responsibility.

Diana had every right to see the CEO talk to his workforce. They bought the Caucuses fair and square…

GIven how many seats they have to defend, the current political environment, and Ives being unelectable statewide, conceding the seat would be better than going all-in on her even if she somehow managed to win the primary.

Peter Pan Proft and his Lost Boys and Girls never grow up. But for them, “Neverland” means the political wilderness they’ll remain outside of elected statewide office.

I assume they lack self-awareness, but are there no grown-ups in their world who can tell them how embarrassing and juvenile their public personalities are? Are they all about self-gratification?

  21. It reads as if Cleveland was some big player in helping Rauner become Governor. He wasnt with Rauner in the primary and his choice was simple, get on board or get out of the way.
Now if he really thinks he can make a candidate Governor, perhaps instead of writing a comic book he should work harder for Ives.
His time would perhaps be better served…

Diana’s State Employee gathers all Jeanne’s Books laying around hoping Bruce and Diana haven’t seen them. 30. Republicans have themselves to blame. He chose republicans because he feels you are the people he could fool the most. Rauner feels all he needed to do to get republican votes was drop his g’s, wear costumes, and talk about Madigan and Chicago.

  31. Read chapter nine “The way forward”. Clearly Jeannie Ives is just one of many liquor and casino industry approved “leaders”. Candidate Ives believes liquor warehouse monopoly licenses should still be given away for $400 a year. Although we have an epidemic of fetal alcohol syndrome she remains silent and feckless.
$25k for out of State companies to operate casino monopolies which export hundreds of millions a year cheating our schools and raised our property taxes. Jeanie does not see the Casinos as a problem, as those horrible public schools she hates.
How are we gonna get ahead when no one save perhaps Anita bedell is ever articulate the operating budgets fiscal crises created by the heavily taxpayer subsidized liquor and casino industry? Sad.

That’s probably true, but “Dad’s Home State” has been often replicated, but never duplicated.

It has a $1.95 retail price, according to the back cover (so I’m way up on the day, with my freebie).

After reading the book, the manner it describes things and the words and phrases to explain them… no, I wouldn’t want to claim those phrases or words.

The only thing this book did for me after reading it is confirm what I know…

… I know the ILGOP, in any form someone would like to describe, including its structure and finances…

… is over. There is nothing left now but fractures, subgroups, Raunerites and true believers… and those like me not part of this new… Dis-Order… that will implode on itself as it hopes “Madigan” and Dems can implode first.

It was a sad read, for me.

It’s all I thought in dysfunction, while being everything you’d expect in pure fiction, sprinkled around grains of the half truths including the enabling of Rauner so many want absolved for themselves.

When this all ends, and a rebuilding begins, the ones looking for the Reagan Rule Republicans will know where to find me.
