* What have you seen in the precincts? What’ve you heard? What do you know?
…Adding… From the Pritzker campaign…
Our statewide, grassroots operation:
· Since May, the Pritzker campaign has built a statewide, grassroots organization from the ground up in order to talk to voters about the upcoming election.
· The campaign has 18 offices statewide, over 100 staffers, and almost 10,000 volunteers across the state.
· The campaign has so far knocked on 591,576 doors and made 3,236,362 phone calls. From the field today:
· This morning, the campaign launched almost 200 volunteers from 48 locations to knock on the doors of likely primary voters statewide.
· Volunteers educated voters on when, where, and how to vote and walked them through a vote plan to ensure they get out to the polls before they close.
· We’ve had great volunteer turnout in our morning shift! Many supporters we spoke with told us they have voted already.
· For example, we have a report from Wheatland where volunteers have knocked on every possible packet of doors, so they’re now driving to Joliet to finish up packets there.
* Rauner GOTV e-mail with subject line “Do you have lunch plans?”…
No mention of Madigan? They broke character. Somebody better reboot that guy. /s
* And the same person who runs the Illinois State Fairgrounds Foundation’s website must be moonlighting on Chris Kennedy’s interwebtubes team…

Noon report.
Tom Cross had a decent front 9, got a Brat, diet soda, and chips at the halfway point, starting the back 9.
That’s my noon report.

I forgot to say I had not seen a Rauner sign till this morning. I think Ives will sweep Southern IL
You can’t cause that much damage
Peddle that much perfidy
Before people take notice
I pray the horror of Rauner
Ends today
Take the wind from his sails
I believe Ives
Will rake his stern
A solid raking
Would take out his already undermanned
Gun deck

I have been by my polling place several times today. It looks busy. The election judges said they anticipated a good turnout We have several local races that people are concerned with, so they are coming out to vote.

Reporting light to moderate turnout for non-presidential primary around here. But we had record early voting — so we don’t really know what to think. That’s normal LOL.

#68 at a little before 11am. Was the only voter when I got there. Two came in before I left. Seems very, very slow so far for a site that is usually pretty busy. Last primary I was in the #200s at about the same time of day. But I guess national elections get all the love.
Comment by Ducky LaMoore Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 12:38 pm
Promised an update…
DuPage 3x. 93rd voter at 1145, so they’re getting about 20 an hour. That said, there was a long line when I left because of slow poll workers. They’re doing the best they can, but there were only 5 people and two working computers for checking registration. I say this every year but I think I mean it this time - I’m gonna take Election Day off next time and become a poll worker.
Anyway, the people in front of me said they had gone to their usual place, but a sign was up saying NOT A POLLING PLACE, so a police officer (?) directed them to my precinct, which of course was wrong, and…Yeah. Grumbling was heard in the line.
And they gave me the wrong ballot. But we got that straightened out and I got to use a spoiled ballot envelope that I think was printed during the Ford administration, so it wasn’t a total loss….
Comment by Concerned Observer Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 12:39 pm
Saw my hardcore right-to-lifer neighbor — she surprised me and pulled a Dem ballot to vote for Lipinski. Said she thought Lipinski needed her vote more than Ives because “there are a lot of signs for Newman and Ives, but none for Rauner.”
It’s just a random anecdote, but a fascinating peak at how one voter thinks.
Comment by Roman Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 12:40 pm

I find it ironic that JB(errios) is taking credit for doing something that the Democratic Party should already have in place, and yet he doesn’t want to criticize the one person who is responsible for that failure.
Comment by Just Me Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 12:43 pm
It’s not ironic. They are acutely aware of the complete lack of a state Democratic Party. Lot of people in this primary making lots of erroneous assumptions.

Just got a call on my lunch hour from a JB volunteer. Wouldn’t have picked up but the phone number was local. Told her I already voted (but not that it wasn’t for JB). Still do not know why his campaign has targeted me so incessantly (constant mailers, this phone call, and even a creepy text message a couple weeks ago) yet my husband has been completely ignored.
Comment by hisgirlfriday Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 12:48 pm
Saw hundreds of yard signs for Ives. Saw one tiny Rauner sign not in a yard but alongside a road.
Meanwhile, one of the grandkids said Kennedy’s smile looks like one of their cartoon characters, (a beaver).
Comment by DuPage Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 12:51 pm
I wasn’t planning to vote today, but having seen Rauner’s message, I think I’ll go to the polling place later, take a Republican ballot, hold my nose, and vote for Ives.

I got a call this afternoon from a Pritzker volunteer asking me if I’d voted yet. I thought the follow-through was impressive. I’ve not gotten a text, email, or call from the Biss or campaign today. I’ve been reliably hit up by both the Pritzker and Biss campaigns in one form or the other so far this primary season, so I thought that was interesting.
No further news about my polling place as I work too far away from home to know, but tonight I’m picking up my gf from work to get her to her polling place in the Chatham Neighborhood of Chicago this evening. Should be interesting to see the turnout there.

Voted this morning for the 1st time at new polling place in suburban Cook. Was very happy to see suburban cook gives out stickers instead of the stupid piece of paper you get in the city (it’s the little things in life folks).
No line at 7:15 am in my two-precinct polling place, though half the voting stations were full. Couldn’t decide who to vote for until I was in front of the screen… I wanted to vote for Biss but for a variety of reasons, primarily my concern over Biss’ ability to be elected statewide, I went with CK.
Have seen a million Ives signs in our fairly conservative NW suburb. Still haven’t seen a single Rauner sign anywhere.
Saw Kennedy signs in the median on Wacker in the Loop, and I’m pretty sure they weren’t there yesterday.

At around NOON today up here on the north side of Waukegan, there had been about 100 voters so far …the Election Judge was quite pleased. And as I was leaving, a stream of more than a dozen persons were coming in, more cars pulling in from the street and parking, too. It usually becomes very busy there in late afternoon right after work. I am on the ballot running as a Democratic Precinct Committeeman, and look forward to watching all the returns tonight!
Comment by LakeCountyGuy Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 1:15 pm
Not a ton of action in Glen Ellyn voting before 7. A little surprised that the few of us there that I overheard all took D ballots.
No privacy folder things for the scantron ballots though. That felt weird.

Up here in the north part of Waukegan, I voted around noon today. About 100 voters so far, the Election Judges were pleased. Lots more arriving by car in the parking lot. Signs for all the candidates, state-wide and local, the legit distance away from the polling place doors. I am on the ballot myself, running as a Democratic Precinct Committeeman. Looking forward to the returns tonight, I predict that in the Dem Primary JB will prevail along with Pat Quinn for AG. For the Repubs, I sense Rauner may be in for a BIG SUPRISE with Ives !
Comment by LakeCountyGuy Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 1:23 pm
How few Dem JB supporters are there in Wheatland Township that they went through their passes already? And why Joliet and not keep them in DuPage Township in Bolingbrook?
Comment by Precinct Captain Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 1:26 pm
Drove through New Trier Township today. Rauner’s home base, where his own party refused to endorse him. I saw a lot of yellow Ives signs, but it would be easier to find a virgin in a Wrigleyville bar on a Thursday night than a Rauner sign up here. Signs don’t vote but Rauner is going to have a bad day. Which one of his Village People outfits should he wear tonight as he explains that his party is under Madigan’s thumb?
Comment by Trapped in the ‘burbs Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 1:35 pm
When you consider all the moolah spent by Rauner and JB, and the fact that their races are so close, that would seem to suggest that money can’t buy elections. However, I do think money can buy 2%, which may be just enough for one (or both) of them to win.

West DePaul neighborhood.
11 am.
Very sparse, as usual - no line - maybe 2 others voting.
Got me thinking, as usual, about all those hours-long lines in minority neighborhoods in the general and and how unfair it is.

It looks really slow outside of the polling places in the near North suburbs and far North side of the city.
Ives got a lengthy plug from a caller to the Rush Limbaugh program.

I moved at the end of last year, so I was not a familiar face at my new polling place. Almost missed the drive way into it as there wasn’t one campaign sign within a half mile of the polling place. I was happy to see that I wasn’t the only democrat in this predominately republican county (Iroquois). It did make me nervous that both my husband’s and my ballots kept on being rejected and even with the judge trying to reset and override the ballot box.

My SW Spfld precinct, I was #90, of 1700 eligible, at 1230p.
How nautical, HB. I will spend tonight on the poopdeck, drinks (daily ration of rum) when the sun dips below the yard arm, monitoring signal traffic.
Recording TV coverage, so I can catch Rauner accepting concession calls from madigan, cullerton, and Ives.
Comment by Langhorne Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 2:12 pm
@ TinyDancer
I’m voting after work, but I never have to wait longer than ~5 minutes (and I expect today to be well under that) and I think about those lines every time. So unfair.
I’ve been texted by Biss and Gong-Gershowitz campaigns today.
Signs in north Evanston: tons of Biss, a few JB, 1 Kennedy, 1 Ives, 0 Rauner.
The state rep race here seems to be very competitive between Mary Rita, Chow, and Gong Gershowitz. I look forward to seeing those results.

Precinct report:
I voted in Nameoki Township, Precinct 5 (Madison County). I was the 47th voter there.
I took the usual Democratic ballot and voted for Biss for Governor, Quinn for AG, Kelly for IL-12 Congressman, wrote-in Chris Miller for Madison County Treasurer, YES on the 1-cent sales tax, and all the Dems uncontested.

I sent Rich an email, but it is probably better to just post here. Suburban Cook County turnout has already exceeded 2014, according to Cook County Clerk David Orr:
“With 4.5 hours until the polls close, suburban #CookCounty turnout has already reached 17% – exceeding the 2014 Gubernatorial Primary turnout of 16%. 264,158 suburban voters have cast a ballot, have you?”

Voted this morning in IL14 in a small room in a park district facility. One of the judges chatted up her colleague about it being “a big day at the Supreme Court too….case about pro-life pregnancy centers having the right to not talk about abortion….pro-abortion people in California….”
Way out of line.

Comment by Bogey Golfer Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 3:06 pm
I’m election judging in La Grange (3rd District), Marie Newman’s home base. Extremely high turnout for Democrats today; notably higher than 2014. Republicans definitely crossing over for Lipinski and voting against Berrios today, definite lack of excitement for their own primary in the west suburbs. Notable quotable from an elderly woman voting via touchscreen: “excuse me, why is it asking me to vote for Mike Madigan?”
