Today, the JB Pritzker campaign released a new video, “Responsible.” The video highlights Bruce Rauner’s fatal mismanagement at the Quincy Veterans’ home and features Jeanne Ives blasting Bruce Rauner for letting the crisis spiral out of control.
“Bruce Rauner waited six days to inform Quincy residents there was an epidemic in their home, thirteen Veterans and spouses died, year after year Legionnaires has returned sickening dozens, and yet Bruce Rauner continues to claim he did nothing wrong,” said Pritzker campaign spokeswoman Jordan Abudayyeh. “This is failure at the highest levels of state government, it is unconscionable fatal mismanagement, and Illinoisans of all political stripes are ready to hold Bruce Rauner accountable.”

I rate it an A. There is no way to overlook the intentional delay of information and action by this failure of a governor. Can’t let him off the hook for these tragic deaths. No Way.

It’s powerful content, and reasonably effective. With better editing, it could be devastating. With all that money, I just don’t understand why they can’t hire people better at this.

It’s pretty good. If they can get the Quincy problems combined with the “I’m not in charge” effectively broken down into a 30 second ad, dynamite.

B simply because it needs to tie in the last line of the Pritzker press release to the hashtag-
“…and Illinoisans of all political stripes are ready to hold Bruce Rauner accountable.”
I doubt any true “red” R is going to flip a vote in November for JB, but there are probably Indies out there who would, and Veteransgate should beat Toiletgate all to heck.

Agreed.
The edit of “I’m not in charge” and focus on what not being in charge meant to the 13 and the Home itself.
That’s a whole different ad, but you’re running on gas with that thought.
To this actual Ad,
It’s a “B+, B”
The whipping around the headlines with the sound effect overtakes the voices (Ives) and her own powerful words to the point of the ad. The cumulative piling on of the headlines are good, just the sound effect and whipping them as they are, coulda been much sharper.
Where I see this missing an “A” mark is the simplicity of what this ad should be.
Rauner failed these veterans. Ives explaines that with clarity and anger/frustration. Keep it “there”, the whipping of headlines and sound effects aren’t needed. No need to jazz up such s horrific story of failure.
It’s still a “B+, B”, due in large part of the real meat to the story and presenting it very well, but some juice was left out for some flash, literally flash, and sound effects.

It is a travesty what happened and Rauner should be held responsible. As well as everyone in State offices that over the years have allowed this home as well as any home that serves veterans, the elderly or the disabled to become substandard.

A solid “B”. There’s almost too much going on between the narrative and the headlines that it becomes a bit distracting. But it gets the point across.

The emails, the timeline, the actual events of this… under Bruce Rauner’s watch, choices, decisions, timing, “framing”… Rauner’s administration in the emails and the 6 days of waiting… nope… not “years”, “both sides”, “everyone”… nope.
Governors own.

Not my comment, but I would say, get rid of the fake static and the distorted background, it is distracting and isn’t needed. I think the comments/quotes would work better against a black background, with them just zoomed in.
That’s my thought.
The issue and the way it was addressed is a big problem and will be effective in going after his base. It would seem an issue older voters would identify with, don’t make your ads about it too distracting.

At first I thought the technical problem with the screens were on my end, making it look low-quality. I watched it again and I got the same thing.
I love the end of the video and think Quincy can be tied to the nursing homes and fatal neglect/not being in charge.

B+ I agree a little to busy. This is an issue that I would not let go away if I was the Pritzker Crew. Everyone is either a veteran, or has some in their family. This is a very relatable issue. If done correctly this will be devastating to Rauner all the way to November.

This ad isn’t even about Quincy. It’s about reminding conservatives that Ives criticized Rauner, pounding on that fissure.

It’s the same editing and framing as yesterday’s Rauner ad, but Rauner’s video team is vastly superior to Pritzkers’.
All that money and you hire C-level videographers, designers, graphic artists and editors.

Given the material with which to work, I think this spot underachieves. It jumps around too much.
Focus on veterans dying. Then show Rauner saying he wouldn’t change a thing. Focus on the delay in notifying the patients. Then show Rauner saying they did everything right at the right time. Then have Jeanne blast him. And close with Rauner saying he did nothing wrong.
Or just hire Saul Goodman to do the spot next time.

I think it’s a pretty solid “B” ad.
Problem: Following Ives’ words and reading the headline texts simultaneously. One or the other, pls.
Apropos of yesterday’s post re: that $265 million estimate + 4-5 year construction timeline, I’ve come to the conclusion that this is another delaying tactic - where’s Illinois going to find that kind of money, even assuming the federal government kicks in some percentage of the $500 million that’s being allotted nationally? [Not to mention the Chicago facility, of course, on which work has been halted.]
I suspect every pronouncement by the guv henceforth will be appropriate for a Pritzker ad, and I would even suggest a regular feature (”This month in the ongoing IVHQ scandal”) might be doable.
This isn’t going to get better before it gets worse, and imho is now a national-level VA issue.
