* From Will Allison at the Rauner campaign…
Hey, everyone-
We already know that Sam McCann is profiting off of politics. But now it’s readily apparent that he’s also a pawn being used by Democrats. Just check out the statements from JB Pritzker and Democratic Governors Association. Their joy about McCann is blatantly transparent. So what conversations has Sam McCann had with Pritzker’s campaign and Illinois Democrats?
Statement from JB Pritzker: “I welcome another voice to the race for governor at this critical time for our state,” said JB Pritzker.
Statement From the DGA: “Today, the nation’s most vulnerable incumbent saw his reelection chances dwindle even further. Bruce Rauner is still reeling from a brutal primary and now he has to deal with an outright revolt from the right. Jeanne Ives voters now have another Republican to vote for in Sen. Sam McCann.”
These are the same tricks from the old corrupt machine that tried and failed to defeat Bruce Rauner before. It happened in the 2014 primary and general elections and in the 2018 primary.
In the 2014 primary election, teacher unions endorsed Kirk Dillard.
In the 2014 general election, labor unions that had endorsed Pat Quinn donated money to Libertarian candidate Chad Grimm.
In the 2018 primary election, the Democratic Governors Association boosted Jeanne Ives.
Mike Madigan and McCann’s biggest backers have been playing both sides for years.
In an August 2017 interview with the Chicago Sun-Times’ Mark Brown, IUOE Local 150 President-Business Manager Jim Sweeney, a “staunch ally of Speaker Madigan,” revealed his strategy to support both McCann and Pritzker in the 2018 election. McCann knows he can’t win, so he’s teaming up with allies of Pritzker and Madigan to play the part of spoiler and profit along the way.
* There was also this friendly little exchange today…
Thank you, @JBPritzker, I look forward to having serious debate about the issues facing Illinois. The People deserve nothing less.

*** UPDATE *** From Galia Slayen at the Pritzker campaign…
Jeanne Ives, Sam McCann, and 48% of Bruce Rauner’s own party are in open revolt against his failed leadership. Rauner can keep spewing desperate lies, but the only person he has to blame for this is himself.

“Rauner campaign claims Dem shenanigans with McCann”
This the same Rauner campaign that claimed Jeanne Ives is a Mike Madigan lackey?
Cool.

You’re done Rauner.

The line stays firmly at 12%. With or without you…..
Comment by Blue dog dem Thursday, Apr 19, 18 @ 11:28 am
Clearly Rauner is planning to treat McCann with the same respect as he treated Ives. That is only going to further divide the party after a crushing primary.
Comment by A Jack Thursday, Apr 19, 18 @ 11:31 am
The idea that conservatives can only disagree with Rauner if they’re being used by Democrats is part of why Ives is still steamed. And alleging that JB and Sam are too friendly runs the risk of making their voters too friendly, too.

Rauner made this claim against Kirk Dillard in 2014. Ives and friends weren’t steamed then. I guess it just depends.

No doubt Sam is doing this to hurt Rauner. And of course, the Pritzker camp loves this. The determining factor is whether conservative voters recognize this, and how they vote based on that recognition.

Four years of failure has a way of focusing the mind.

It looks like McCann and Pritzker are being adults about the race. Rauner’s campaign just come off as whiny and up to their old lying ways. You can only beat a dead horse so long. Not everyone who doesn’t like Rauner is a Madigan lackey. Some of us just don’t like the guy period. The fact is Rauner can’t get my vote under any circumstances. He has been horrible at the job, and I don’t see him getting better.

Any guesses on the percentage of registered Democrats of the 25,000 signatures for this “conservative” candidate?
Comment by Lucky Pierre Thursday, Apr 19, 18 @ 11:43 am
Waiting for an endorsement from Ives . . . . .
Comment by Out Here In The Middle Thursday, Apr 19, 18 @ 11:50 am
Would Ives really endorse someone who takes so much union cash and lied about serving? Don’t know. Maybe. But seems a bit odd.
Comment by Would she? Thursday, Apr 19, 18 @ 11:54 am
Ive’s hates Unions too much to back McCann.
Comment by Real Thursday, Apr 19, 18 @ 11:56 am
Yes! Obviously the Democratic candidate for governor in a blue state in a midterms election with a historically unpopular Republican President in the White House would have no chance to win and would roll the dice on conspiring with a non-Democrat to defeat a Republican incumbent. It makes total sense!
Comment by Um Thursday, Apr 19, 18 @ 11:59 am
Don’t know if you could really disagree with anything Will or Galia are saying here.
Not often you get that.

You really need to be worrying more about Rauner’s percentage of the vote in November right now, Fortunate Peter.

Will McCann need to get 25000 signatures of people who neither voted in the March primary or signed a petition for a candidate running in either parties’ primary? If so, that’s a big lift
Comment by TominChicago Thursday, Apr 19, 18 @ 12:34 pm
Bruce would have us believe that 48% of Republicans cast primary votes for a Mike Madigan stooge, so who knows?

Oh Will Allison…
===Mike Madigan and McCann’s biggest backers have been playing both sides for years.===
McCann not being a Raunerite, as Rauner “betrayed” so many actual Republicans and conservatives… Rauner needs the McCann pool of voters.
The drivel the ILGOP party wants… people rejected in March.
Keep up.

He would be able to collect signatures from any registered voter, regardless of whether they pulled a primary ballot or signed primary petitions.

How much did Rauner pay for those anti Pritzker, Biss ads during the primary?
I am just looking for a guess.
How much did Ken Dunkin get from Rauner friends?
Comment by JS Mill Thursday, Apr 19, 18 @ 12:52 pm
Googled signature requirements. People can sign new party petitions even if they signed petitions for primaries. McCann should have no problems getting 25,000.
Comment by Last Bull Moose Thursday, Apr 19, 18 @ 12:53 pm
Of course the Rauner camp is angry about today’s announcement. If only Rauner had accomplishments to run on and take the edge off of and rise above challenges. But there’s nothing but…anger.

No such thing as “registered Democrats” or “registered Republicans” in the state of Illinois.
Is that a thing in your country?

==Would Ives really endorse someone who takes so much union cash and lied about serving? Don’t know. Maybe. But seems a bit odd.==
McCann didn’t lie about serving. He signed up and then broke his back in a construction accident and the marines didn’t want him.
This was a talking point when Rauner’s and Profit’s candidate Bryce Benton ran against McCann, much like Ives being Madigan’s favorite Republican.

The shenanigans begin at the debates cutting Rauners time to a third defending himself from a two prong assault

McCann is Dunkin in reverse…aisle-crossing distractions.
