Starting off with a bang. A little long and the press conference bit was too long. B-

C- it should be a softball but Mendoza swings and and lmisses by making the spot way too long and too much Mendoza instead of the message.

B-. Lengthy is an understatement.

This message will resonate with the public. It is a good attack ad. I agree it is a little long, and jumps around a lot. B-

A bit long, on target.
As to not one person in Rauner’s camp not commenting the attack is inappropriate? They’d be fired!
Rauner, unfortunately a waste of time and energy. No clue on what is going on.

Defines Darlene before she has a chance to start her campaign. Brilliant.
Comment by Average Voter Wednesday, May 16, 18 @ 6:50 am
D. Why is she running an ad? Unnecessary.
Comment by Anon21 Wednesday, May 16, 18 @ 7:05 am
Kind of starts her campaign on a negative - though justified - note.
I’d like her to run some positive ads too, because she’s accomplished a lot to date.
Agree that it’s too long by about 30′.

Darlene Senger’s first thought was that blame… not to look out for those still at the Quincy Home… and to put that blame… on a wounded combat veteran… who wasn’t even there… when this all happened.
That’s who… Darlene Senger is… that’s her character.
It’s a “B”
“Why”
I know, I get it, I understand… it’s an internet ad.
You can sing the same song with a verse and chorus, you don’t need to sing the whole song, every verse, every extended chorus.
I know why they did it this way, I get it, it makes sense…
But somethings, even if you have the extended time, you don’t need to use it.
All that said… it’s as good as it gets with a messsage… and it IS who Dalene Senger is too.
Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, May 16, 18 @ 8:07 am
It’s a good ad but I think they could have got the same point across with a shorter ad. As someone previously mentioned I don’t think Mendoza is going to have to run too many ads to beat Senger.
Comment by The Dude Abides Wednesday, May 16, 18 @ 9:14 am
Good ad. Eliminates Sengers opportunity to define herself. Also, a team move to keep Rauners numbers down

===Eliminates Sengers opportunity to define herself===
lol
Some of you need to take a breath. It’s a 92-second online ad in May, for crying out loud.
Comment by Rich Miller Wednesday, May 16, 18 @ 9:40 am
Solid B and would be an A if edited a bit. Clearly tying Senger to the unpopular unapologetic governor works well on several levels.
Comment by Pundent Wednesday, May 16, 18 @ 9:41 am
I rate it a solid B. As others have stated, it is a bit long. But when you are pointing out the terrible things that happened at Quincy, How can you be brief? The Rauner administration have hurt our state in so many ways, it is hard to be short when pointing them out.
Comment by Big Joe Wednesday, May 16, 18 @ 9:44 am
Take a breath?
What should be done? Wait 3 or 4 more years like GovJunk did to cover up the deaths.
Senger needs to be dumped from the ticket.
But like the Ives win for the GOPie chair GovJunk could be slow to act
Ad was a little long, but makes up for general lack of media attention
Comment by Annonin' Wednesday, May 16, 18 @ 9:55 am
Who’s Darlene Senger? Never heard of her.
Why bring her up?
I get it, Senger stuck her chin out and deserves a pop. A spot of this sort could come in handy in October.
But right now, I’d be promoting Mendoza. She’s a rock star with a great story. If she wants to pound on anyone, Rauner and Trump are available.

Who cares if it’s “lengthy” - it’s not a TV add. I think the tragedy in Quincy deserves at least 90 seconds of our attention. I give it an A.
Comment by Shytown Wednesday, May 16, 18 @ 10:16 am
–I think the tragedy in Quincy deserves at least 90 seconds of our attention. I give it an A.–
Point well taken.
I wish Quincy was a “tragedy.” Instead, it’s a case study of cynical grifters in all their horrible indifference and incompetence.
Comment by wordslinger Wednesday, May 16, 18 @ 10:32 am
It’s a solid hit. I am amused that given how they edited it, you see JB popping up all over the screen. First he’s to her left. Then he’s on the other side. Then he’s back.
Comment by Anonymous Wednesday, May 16, 18 @ 10:33 am
If 90 seconds is an eternity to you, pity your lover. The Internet does not charge by the minute. 90 seconds is fine for an issue rollout. A.

===I think the tragedy in Quincy deserves at least 90 seconds of our attention.===
While that is very true, it’s not about the tragedy, but it is about Senger, her role, and her idea who to blame for it.
I can get that jist in :60 seconds.
An important recap of the Quincy tragedy, in of itself deserves so much more, even more than the :90 seconds.
It’s still May.

I nominate that for comment of the year.
Wish I had said it.

Too long but definitely lets Darlene know she better ask for really big checks from the Gov.
Comment by DuPage Bard Wednesday, May 16, 18 @ 10:56 am
Sengees firat move should be to establish credibility. Mendoza is shortcuttng her ability to do so early.
Comment by Anonymous Wednesday, May 16, 18 @ 11:09 am
Saying it is too long is not questioning the merits of the issue. It’s acknowledging the attention span of folks that you want to see it.
It is a good issue. The content is strong. A good editor can make that piece work just as well in 60 or 30 seconds.
Comment by Montrose Wednesday, May 16, 18 @ 11:22 am
I see this ad as the full story piece and as proactive towards having Mendoza characterize Senger. Mendoza’s campaign will be following this ad to pick out the pieces with the most oomph for future short ads that cost money. Senger has made this too easy for Mendoza. Is it just me or does Senger look like a twin to Munger?

Politics or not I am very happy to see one Illinois politician energetically take on the the tragedy of Quincy veterans. I am an unabashed fan of Mendoza. She has been a positive force in Illinois as comptroller who has great style. You go girl!

Absolutely. She’s a rock star.
Compare and contrast with Sleepy Madigan and Droopalong Cullerton. They let Rauner run roughshod over the state and barely made a peep.
It’s not that Rauner was good at messaging, it’s that those guys weren’t even in the ballgame.
Comment by wordslinger Wednesday, May 16, 18 @ 12:15 pm
I think, just like Mendoza, that we rob either K-12, or higher ed of the funds equal to the amount it takes to fix the problem in Quincy. That must be where the money is coming from.
Comment by BlueDogDem Wednesday, May 16, 18 @ 12:45 pm
C. Too much time dedicated to useless media quotes that could have easily conveyed same thing w/ a direct quote from mendoza. 13sec to 21sec could be cut out. “Comptroller Susana Mendoza outraged” We already get that in the video no need to repeat. The whole Senger ‘definition’ graphic is distracting and doesn’t go w/ narrator. Cute, but cut it. Button up a few things, cut this into 2 diff ads, because it’s 2 different messages, and it’s go time.
