* Press release…
On Friday, Judge Andrea Wood cited Senate Minority Leader Bill Brady’s legislative immunity in her dismissal of gubernatorial candidate Sam McCann’s motion for a temporary restraining order in his lawsuit against Brady and the Senate Minority Caucus.
Judge Wood did not discuss the lawsuit, which was filed after McCann was denied access to various legislative support services on April 19, when he announced his intention to run for Governor in the new Conservative Party.
McCann issued the following statement:
Bruce Rauner and his Republican Party are hiding behind immunity to try to silence me, but every attempt to weaken me and attack my constituents shows the Party’s need to resort to desperate tactics to protect its dwindling hope in November’s election.
The truth is that Illinois has lost faith in Bruce Rauner and the Republican Party that he has purchased and poisoned. We stood witness to his weakness in the March Primary Election, but instead of allowing another candidate a fair chance to right the ship in Illinois, his allies are carrying out a war against many of the Conservatives who elected him, to the detriment of the constituents who are watching in disgust. More recently, the creation of a co-chairmanship of the Rauner Republican Party is yer another shameful backroom deal designed to silence those that disagree with his liberal positions.
Rauner’s allies are relying upon immunity to wage a civil war because he has no true interest in defeating Madigan and the Chicago liberals whose agenda he has helped to advance in the past three and a half years.
Conservatives who love Illinois won’t be fooled. It is time to rise up and fight back for the future of our great state. Rauner and his allies can attack me, but they won’t stop me, and every attack only solidifies Conservative voters against him and coalesces voters behind me.

Sam Madigan

I’m sure I agree with the listed rationale, but this was a loser all the way. Sam’s win on this is the continued media pop.

Right, if there’s one thing we know about Rauner, it’s that he doesn’t really care about Madigan. Wait, what?

Senator mccann had a website mccannforgovernor.com. It disappeared. All google could find was therealsammccann website put up by Rauner to smear Sam. Today I search Google and the first page find therealsammccann. On each search page I found therealsammcann.
After seven search pages I found mccannforillinois. We need to recognize Google needs to be regulated because not only do they place paid advertisements often and frequently, but Google also accepts payment to HIDE search results. Google has been allowed without antitrust oversight to purchase other search engines. It is a real problem.

Like Walter Payton, you cannot hope to temporarily restrain Bill Brady, you can only try to contain him.

AI. That website should be hidden, looks like a child built it. With all that money he has coming in you’d think they’d pay someone to build decent website.

People like you are why big money in politics is a problem. You only believe a candidate should be given a platform if they have big money for websites and ad’s. Hide anyone with no money because they are not worth listening to. That’s how you come off.

I’d rather have a candidate spend their money on communicating with voters in an effective way…rather than use it for a lawsuit to accomplish nothing but noise.

If the outcome came out in favor of McCann then it would be worth it. Second, his name is not even on the ballot yet. He has plenty of time to update a website which is definitely not a priority when you know who is opponent is i.e. Rauner.

Sam, Just how loud does the Fat Lady need to sing before you hear it. People may be screaming for a Messiah, but you aren’t it.

This is the message that will resonate.
This is what should scare Raunerites.

He just needs to go ahead and caucus with the Democrats. They are the one helping his campaign after all.

Please understand, I did not misspell sam’s name in the Google search. McCann illinois governor and his website is about item 66 on page seven. We need to be concerned about material interference with our communication mass media. We have two international tax cheats running for Governor, and a candidates website is hidden due to payola. It may not be criminalized yet, but it is anti-American and immoral.

Sam I am, not Rauner

@Al
First of all, Google doesn’t hide websites. They just don’t. That would tank their business model. Google made it’s reputation on search accuracy, and any new feature that threatens that reputation is self-defeating.
McCann is losing the paid search auctions (if he’s even bidding at all) that Google does for every keyword. This is Paid Search 101. I guarantee at least two words in your search (Illinois and Governor) are commanding a hefty premium, especially this year. Then he has to contend with the Google score, which is an proprietary algorithm that essentially looks at how many people are going to his site, and how many other pages reference his page. This is a check against someone with a ton of money dominating the auctions (and ironically preventing exactly what you fear is happening). Then again, if no one is linking to his website, no one is visiting his site, and he’s not promoting it, it’s not going to be anywhere near the top of a search.
So stop saying this is some sort of conspiracy against McCann, when incompetence is the more likely culprit.
Signed,
Someone who works within this space and actually understands how Google makes money.

I think McCann’s suit was without merit, but this is correct.

Hey Chris,
When mccann first put up his website you could Google it and it came up 1st on the 1st page. Then Rauner creates therealsammccann website and suddenly mccann for illinois shows up on page seven. Google does all the time hide search finds. Are you a Russian troll?
