There’s good news and bad news about Illinois lawmakers’ conservative-ness in the American Conservative Union (ACU) 2017 Ratings.
“It is our hope that these ratings will serve as a guide showing who can be relied on to fight for conservative principles and restore the role of government to what our nation’s founding fathers envisioned,” ACU’s executive director Matt Schlapp wrote on the recently-issued guide.
Reviewing over 20 roll calls in both chambers, the ACU found no Republican senators that scored 90 to 100%, and only six House members - Bourne, Breen, Cavaletto, Frese, Halbrook and Ives - that rated highest.
In the ACU’s 80 to 89% category, two senators - Tim Bivins and Kyle McCarter - rated. Neither are running for re-election in 2018. Twenty-four IL GOP House members rated 80 to 89%.
The full ratings are here. Sen. Sam McCann, who is running for governor in the new “Conservative Party,” scored just 45 percent last year and 27 percent in 2016. His lifetime rating is 62 percent. That’s the lowest lifetime rating for a Senate Republican except for Sen. Dale Fowler, who is at 61 percent for one year. The 2017 average for all Republicans was 70 percent, while Democrats averaged 18 percent. Sen. Tom Cullerton had the highest Democratic rating in his chamber last year at 36 percent.
The lowest rated House Republican was Rep. David Harris, at 55 percent. The highest rated House Democrat was Rep. Jerry Costello, at 50 percent.
Sen. Patricia Van Pelt (D-Chicago) and Reps. Marcus Evans (D-Chicago) and Litesa Wallace (D-Rockford) all scored less than 10 percent, making them the “coalition of the radical left,” according to the ACA.

ACU opposes “tax increases to pay for fraud and mismanagement that have led to….”
But they’re fine with running-up exorbitant interest costs by not paying bills. BTW - How’s that elimination of a budget shortfall by cutting fraud and mismanagement goin’ ?

The ratings confirm what everyone knows to be true
Elected Democrats are far more liberal than elected Republicans are conservative.
It is depressing how there are virtually no legislators are rated between 40 and 60%, the true middle where most voters are. No wonder why there is virtually no compromise in Springfield.

Sure, the “reasonable and moderate” Speaker Madigan has a lifetime rating of 25% and in 2016 was at 17% and 2016 was at 6%.
So he become more much unreasonable and much less moderate since Governor Rauner’s inauguration for purely political reasons not with the intention of solving Illinois problems.

Speaker Madigan is running unopposed.
Bruce Rauner has a 26% approval rating, attacking Madigan for 4 years.
If I were you, I’d start talking up Rauner and all he’s done, Rauner needs people to like him. Right now, barley one in 4 approve of Rauner.
But, please, keep your eye off the ball.

The problem with this rating system is that every bill gets one positive or one negative on a chart next to the member’s name. So a vote against abortion gets cancelled out by say a vote to prevent employers from asking about wage history.

I really hope McCann makes it on the ballot and runs to keep reminding conservatives about Rauner lying to them and using them as expendable hostages on abortion, as well as his caving to Madigan and all the political insiders on the tax hike.
Conservatives almost cooked Rauner’s goose in March.
According to this article, Rauner will need conservatives to be enthusiastic for him to win.

Protocol directives for the Luckybot 6000 have combined a lot of words into nonsensical sentences on this blog since Rauner was elected, but this might be the dumbest one yet. It constantly creates supportive posts in favor of a liberal republican governor, only to later create negative posts stating that supporters purchased directly by that same liberal governor aren’t conservative enough?
If the creators require assistance with rewriting the cognitive logic algorithms in their program, our IT staff stands ready to offer assistance.
