* Check out the Rauner campaign’s new Facebook ads…
According to Facebook, the ads (I counted six slightly different versions) started running today.
Blagojevich, you will recall, made the exact same demand to release all the tapes during and after his trials.
The tapes were ordered sealed by a federal judge. I can’t see how an online petition will do much of anything besides gather names for a campaign database.
We’re through the looking glass.

Does this mean Rauner’s out of material? Have we heard the last of the Pritzker-Blagojevich recordings?

Where were the online petitions to release the Kipper’s lawsuit that was filed in the public courts?
How many AG opinions and lawsuits have there been as a result of his administration’s attempts to keep documents hidden from FOIAs?
I guess you just can’t take the “private” out of the private equity guy.

So is Rauner saying he believes the FBI over our President? Is he trying to vindicate the FBI in their measures to go after high ranking officials or is he trying to help the President by showing the FBI made mistakes in their case?

Rauner is trying so desperately to distract voters from his abysmal record and lack of accomplishments by chasing after dead ends. If Pritzker did something illegal he would have been indicted. As our president would say, witch hunt [all capital letters, exclamation point].

What is Rauner going to do if Trump pardons Blagojevich? A member of his own party pardons the guy you are trying to tie your opponent to. I’m guessing JB is preparing for that. That would likely take the last issue away for Rauner to use.

The petition is a thermometer that will measure the viability of another trump waive that would push the margins in rural counties into being a statewide problem.
In looking at the ad it highlights the brilliance of the threat of a pardon. Madigan, Durbin, Obama all a thorn in Trumps side, can you imagine the chaos if Rod is back on the late night circuit in October gaffing JB was trying to buy the senate seat and they are still going to make this guy governor.
Doesn’t need to be true, to be a problem.

Reporters need to ask Rauner how he knows that there are more Pritzker-Blago tapes to justify his petition?
I prefer the FBI ask Rauner that question instead.

If I were a conspiracy theorist, I would think that Trump discussing the release of Blago was coordinated. The media attention on Blago right now is just bleeping golden for Rauner.

Rauner won’t say Trump’s name and does not like him. He lied about Jeanne Ives being Mike Madigan’s candidate. The hard right conservatives will take him to task over this and many other things HB40, transgender rights, sanctuary state etc etc.
Bruce going against Blago is trying to sway D’s who are upset at the system and hope he gets enough independents to stave off the voter apathy coming from within his own base.
The hard part is he is so anti-labor I don’t believe he can pull off the 40% of union households he got last time against Quinn. So who is the base he’s going to get? Kennedy and Biss voters? Maybe but even if he tags 50% of them it doesn’t nullify his loss of conservatives.
Where is his path?

Yeah, but that’s a worthy enough goal for a political campaign. OTOH, it’s hard to imagine that someone convinced by this isn’t already on a Rauner list.

One story had Trump being sympathetic to Blagojevich because they’re both victims of the system. Why isn’t Rauner slamming Trump for considering the release of such a corrupt individual?

A petition for the tapes? That is a knee slapper. Maybe we can get those FOIA requests a little quicker and with out all of the redactions now that Bruce is all about transparency.

Yes, he would say “Play the tapes. Play allllll the tapes. (wink,wink, e.g. there’ll be some exonerating even if irrelevant material in there that will help me with the jury)

I’m guessing here, but the guess is the Chicago Tribune gave Rauner all that it has, so Rauner has to plant the idea in the mind of the public that the federal government has more Blago/JB conversations on tape.
Another possibility is Rauner’s holding back a conversation, which he will release after petitioning concludes, so he can say to the voters: “It was your insistence that we hear all Blago/JB conversations that enabled us to hear this new conversation-it just shows that when we all work together we can move mountains, we can even move the federal government.”

Some the tapes Judge Zagel ordered sealed have already been played. Who leaked them to the Tribune something that should be investigated. If Rauner were serious here he’d be sending a request to DOJ’s IG on how this happened.
