* Rep. Deb Conroy explains the image on her Facebook page…
The Transplant Team at Rush gave this to me today. When I pinned it on my shirt I found myself looking around the waiting room at all the many patients. Men and women of all different race and age waiting for and not knowing when or where their donor will come from.
From the bottom of my heart I want everyone to know that one week post surgery I feel great, I lost 4 pounds and I now have an answer to a question my little nephew once asked me. Liam asked me once why does God give us two kidneys if we only need one? Well Liam, God had me carry an extra one around and keep it safe until it found a new home with Uncle Tim.
So many people are waiting for the gift of life and through live donation we can give it.
Rep. Conroy has not had an easy year, to say the least, so I’d like to take this opportunity to wish her nothing but the best and the speediest recovery possible.

Never judge a book by its cover and what’s written in it because even that may fool you. Best of luck in recovery.

Excellent example of kindness and charity. The owner of a plumbing company we used some years ago was walking a little slowly during a job estimate, and when I asked him what was bothering him, said that “He just donated a kidney a week ago and was still a little sore”. On top of that, it was to a guy from his church, who he barely knew. I often think of that guy and his selflessness, some people walk the walk in a big way. Good for the Representative.

So generous! Hope she and the recipient have an easy and fast recovery. And what a brilliant answer she has to her nephew’s question.
A woman I worked with a number of years ago donated a kidney. All of us in the office felt we had contributed, because we had a sick day pool upon which she could draw for her recovery time.

This took my breath away. I want to associate myself with everything good that has and will be said about Rep. Conroy. Additionally, her selfless act reminds us of how much life transcends politics; the nobility of truly being a servant. Godspeed, Representative. You and you’re donee are in my prayers.

As a Liver Transplant recipient, I applaud her selfless act. Right now there are over 5100 people waiting on a transplant in the State of Illinois. There are over 120,000 waiting nationwide. She and Uncle Tim have become member of our transplant family, and we are glad to have them. A very selfless act that should be applauded. She gave the “Gift of Life.”
