Gov Rauner announces he and his wife are donating $1 million to help restore Coliseum at fairgrounds
— Bernie Schoenburg (@bschoenburg) August 14, 2018
The money would go to the state fair’s foundation. The governor said there was a “good chance” that he would donate more and said they were “talking to many folks” about contributing and things were “going well.” He said school kids would choose a new name for the building.

will he continue making con tribulations like this, and the one to fix the mansion, after he loses in November?

Thank you Gov. Was watching Draft Horse Show yesterday and it was a good show in a bad building. Now just get it done for next years fair.

Good for Rauner.
Shame we have to rely on private contributions …

Kudos to Rep. Butler for making the big ask!
Now can Sue Scherer get JB to chip in?

Ever since he announced the private foundation for the state fair, I’ve been wondering if Rauner was ever going to kick in any dollars.
Interesting that this is the same amount he’s pledged to give Erika Harold.
Comment by Fair weather fan Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 10:44 am
so wouldn’t it have been better to do so he could experience as gov? By donating the money now (or pledging to) he won’t see any updates until he is out of office and does anyone think this guy is ever coming back to the State Fair after he loses?
Comment by Spliff Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 10:46 am
Will Pritzker donate $2 Million, just to annoy the Governor? If yes, will he designate the money to be used for plumbing at the Coliseum?
Comment by SAP Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 10:46 am
Much appreciated by this fair goer !
Comment by Texas Red Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 10:49 am
Two things:
1. Why now? Had he led a fundraising after the coliseum problems were discovered it would be reopened by now.
2. In exchange for the $1 million, which is a lot of money for him, is Rauner demanding the Coliseum prosecute Speaker Madigan?

How is this possible? LP told us big-money won’t contribute because of union work rules — even though those same rules were in place for the mansion renovation.

LOL
What other “big money’ has contributed to the State Fairgrounds?
Why does “Big Money” contribute to the state of the art Iowa fairgrounds that was renovated for a fraction of what the Illinois fairgrounds would cost?
See any difference? Of course not if you a re a blind partisan who believes the Mike Madigan no change agenda is working for Illinois despite its record of failure.

Rauner is polling at 29%
Madigan is unopposed in his district.
Bruce Rauner has failed Illinois.

See the $5 million that the Pritzker Family and trusts gave The Ounce when Rauner was starving social services…
If we’re talking $5 million.

Congratulations and a deep appreciation are in order here. He didn’t have to do it, just like he didn’t have to do the Governor’s Mansion restoration.

LP, Rauner said he’s workin’ on it. Don’t tell me you’ve lost faith?
As to the rest of your usual canned chants, See N’ Say from Fisher Price has a greater range of compellin’ and interestin’ comments.
Louis, I’m sure the governor will buy you an ice cream for that one. You might enjoy it better than what you’re usually plantin’ your lips on around him.
Comment by wordslinger Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 1:14 pm
@wordslinger, you could have tried throw an off handed compliment towards him for this donation. He didn’t have to do it. You will notice that I’ve never criticized his opponent for his multiple donations. Take a deep breath.
Last week everyone ridiculed the lack of fair ground donations. This week a $1 million donation to the fair is being ridiculed?
OK then.
Extremist snarkaholism. I will immediately look into trademarking that expression. After I get my ice cream. From Oberweis.

==— “extremist snarkaholism” —==
It’s absolutely necessary. Without this, Rich would have nothing in the comments sections but LP’s sycophantic Rauner defense schtick and “Sue” continuing to embarrass herself with her constant remarks about Pritzker being fat. Advertisements would dry up fast in that scenario. We’re trying to help support a small business here.
Comment by Lester Holt’s Mustache Tuesday, Aug 14, 18 @ 1:31 pm
Rauner’s $1 million is the first big contribution. Where’s the Illinois Farm Bureau on this one? IFB and the other ag groups seem to be the big beneficiaries of an improved fairgrounds but they’ve yet to drop a penny into the Foundation’s bucket.

I can think of a few labor unions (Operating Engineers, Carpenters, etc) whose members would benefit from improving the fairgrounds as well.
How about CME? Ag futures and the future of agriculture.

No, he didn’t have to do it. He chose to for his own political benefit.
And it has nothing to do with his duties as governor or how he’s performed them. Same goes for Pritzker’s charitable contributions; they have nothing to do with the gig.

Rauner didn’t have to force the state to go a whole GA without two budgets…
Should I be grateful he did his job after the GA voted 152-20 to force Rauner to sign a budget.

===He didn’t have to do it. You will notice that I’ve never criticized his opponent for his multiple donations.===
Let’s break this down…
“He didn’t have to do it.”
Here, it’s money as some sort of blessing, how lucky we all are, the money he (or they) didn’t “have to” give.
So, you can be a phony, anyone can, as long as the money, no one “has to” donate… is… donated.
Here’s where it’s about the money, not really about the who or the why
“You will notice that I’ve never criticized his opponent for his multiple donations.”
… and there it is.
It’s not about criticizing or choosing if one is giving it’s better than another, it IS about the money, and if it covers the phony, that’s fine.
Like candidate Rauner, ‘nember?
“I donated millions”
It’s about the money. The money insulating the phony, so not criticizing or whatever… it IS about the money and it solving the phony.
“Look at the money”
“I’m not criticizing the money he gave”
I get it, “write the check”… we’re all good.
