* The governor was asked an interesting question…
Rauner has 4 GOP candidates post their signed pledge on a bulletin board. They say they want 10 year term limits to stop Speaker Madigan from controlling the House BUT Rauner wouldn’t commit to holding Minority Leader Durkin to same standards. He’s held office for nearly 20yrs. pic.twitter.com/H2a22dxPR3

Well, I suppose after throwing Leader Durkin under the bus last week he couldn’t do it again today.
*** UPDATE *** Bernie took it to him…

Meh, when you’re a chronic liar, cognitive dissonance is a walk in the park.

There is a case to be made for term limits, but it’s obvious that Rauner is not the person to make that case.
Comment by slow down Wednesday, Sep 5, 18 @ 11:04 am
Bruce Rauner a total hypocrite? While I’ll bet the sky is blue too.
Comment by Precinct Captain Wednesday, Sep 5, 18 @ 11:05 am
‘Nember when Leader Durkin was a committee chair for Speaker Madigan.
Yeah, me too.
Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, Sep 5, 18 @ 11:07 am
What about Bill Brady? He’s been in the General Assembly since 1993.
Comment by frogger Wednesday, Sep 5, 18 @ 11:08 am
Jim Durkin has been the Republican Leader in the House since 2013
Mike Madigan has been the Democratic Leader in the House since 1983
100% false equivalence
Comment by Lucky Pierre Wednesday, Sep 5, 18 @ 11:11 am
why wasn’t his protege Seth McMillan there? Isn’t all press good press?
Comment by Spliff Wednesday, Sep 5, 18 @ 11:12 am
The steel fabrication business would be in much better shape if only we had term limits. OK, if Governor Junk says so.
Comment by don the legend Wednesday, Sep 5, 18 @ 11:16 am
Is this latest limit a limit on being any elected official, or just on leadership positions? The governor has gone back and forth, and Durkin has only been the minority leader for what, 6 years I think?
Comment by Perrid Wednesday, Sep 5, 18 @ 11:19 am
Will this bring more jobs to Illinois? How will someone with less experience help? Couldn’t someone ask that question. How does someone with less experience do a better job? Any other professions the governor thinks experience doesn’t matter?
Comment by 360 Degree TurnAround Wednesday, Sep 5, 18 @ 11:26 am
That was some impressive staging. Whomever was charged with getting the cork board, easel, and pushpins must be feeling good about themselves.

“Today, Governor Rauner will be joined by elected officials and candidates for office to promote The People’s Pledge, a commitment to put term limits on state elected DEMOCRATIC officials and to vote for anyone other than Mike Madigan for House Speaker.”
There. Fixed it for you.
Comment by Mr. Smith Wednesday, Sep 5, 18 @ 11:28 am
Is this ten-year limit retroactive, or prospective, the way the proposed initiative amendment was?
Obviously such a policy is a nonstarter if it applies only to Democrats, as Rauner insinuates.
If term limits had been in effect for the last 30 years, then the following Republicans, in addition to Leader Durkin, would have had their distinguished careers cut short: Tom Cross, Bill Black, Lee Daniels, Patty Bellock, Dan Brady, Beth Coulsen, David Leitch, Sid Mathias, Mike McAuliffe, Rosemary Mulligan, Ray Poe, Skip Saviano, Art Tenhouse, Kirk Dillard, Pam Althoff, Doris Karpeil, Dale Righter, and Frank Watson. That’s a lot of talent and experience that would’ve been lost after a decade.

This simply shows how sincere Rauner is about term limits. That is, not very.
It’s just a political stunt. His contempt for voters grows with each passing Madigan attack. I can’t wait for Rauner to leave office. Maybe then we can make some progress on the many problems facing Illinois. This joker is an incompetent failure.
Comment by 47th Ward Wednesday, Sep 5, 18 @ 11:30 am
“Sheesh, you guys just won’t quit. First you don’t want me to hire Durkin’s completely unqualified sister in law, now you me to hold him to the same standard as I do Madigan? Focus, Raquel, focus.”
Comment by Lester Holt’s Mustache Wednesday, Sep 5, 18 @ 11:31 am
If it doesn’t apply to both party leaders, it is illegal. Right?
Comment by M Wednesday, Sep 5, 18 @ 11:41 am
LP: The People’s Pledge contains a ten-year term limit on state elected officials. That provision does not limit only leadership.
Comment by anon2 Wednesday, Sep 5, 18 @ 11:56 am
Term limits. Because we think people are stupid and need government to limit their choices.
Comment by Da Big Bad Wolf Wednesday, Sep 5, 18 @ 12:14 pm
LP at 11:11. The proposal is a 10 year limt. They are both overdue under the proposed limit. 100% hipocrisy.

Somehow it isn’t as impressive on a cork board as on a church front door…

===The proposal is term limits on leadership===
And on legislators in general.
Comment by Rich Miller Wednesday, Sep 5, 18 @ 12:45 pm
Meh. Minority Leaders don’t have the real power and influence that a Speaker/President has.
Comment by Just Me Wednesday, Sep 5, 18 @ 1:17 pm
—Meh. Minority Leaders—
His “pledge” specifically calls for term limits on all legislators, not just leaders.

=100% false equivalence=
As per usual with LP- a drive by and a failure to read for meaning.
The term limitation is not for leadership but for legislators. 100% good for the goose and gander.
I would be happy to send you a dictionary if you were so inclined.
Comment by JS Mill Wednesday, Sep 5, 18 @ 1:47 pm
Yay…term limits.
Comment by Cheer Leader Wednesday, Sep 5, 18 @ 1:50 pm
What the heck is wrong with some of you people? Are you that enamored with Rauner that you excuse his hypocrisy? The so-called pledge applies to all legislators, not just leadership and not just Madigan. You want Madigan out? Fine, I certainly understand. I, don’t care for the guy either. But to selectively apply the pledge to just Madigan, or Dem leadership, in general, is sickening and an example of just how yentzed-up and partisan politics has become./End rant
Comment by Yiddishcowboy Wednesday, Sep 5, 18 @ 1:53 pm
Rauner is so singularly focused on Madigan that he’s either incapable of seeing the hypocrisy of his standard or simply views Republican legislators who would be impacted as collateral damage. More than anything it really underscores how Mike Madigan has taken up permanent residency in Rauner’s head.
Rauner won’t be missed by either party.
Comment by Pundent Wednesday, Sep 5, 18 @ 3:16 pm
Cheap stunt.
By the way, when is Rauner running for Governor?
The way he talks,he is running for Speaker Of The House.
Comment by btowntruth from forgottonia Wednesday, Sep 5, 18 @ 4:35 pm
Love to see politicians challenged, especially on tough issues.
I wish it happened more often on both sides.
Bernie “take it” to Speaker Madigan and JB Pritzker soon!

–I would be happy to send you a dictionary if you were so inclined.–
Russian/English, pozhaluysta.
Keep in mind, this is the guy, when I mentioned the other day the ancient Kelleher/Kingman fight at Wrigley, he posted the wikipedia entry, nearly word for word, so as to claim he was there, for cred.
Because, he is that Illinoise basa-balls-enthusiast, with the Oldest Styles and red hots dogs, not like from Kazan.
Ponimayu?
