Lisa Madigan says again that she won’t run for mayor

Posted in:

* She flatly denied last year when she announced her retirement that she would run for mayor in 2019, so she’s sticking with that same response now…

Statement from AG Lisa Madigan ruling out bid for mayor: “I am a lifelong resident of Chicago. I care deeply for the city. There are a lot of challenges facing Chicago, and I plan to continue helping as a resident and not as mayor.”

  1. Chicago may be inching towards reform. All that’s left is for Alderman Ed Burke to say he’s not running for Mayor even though he is by far the most qualified .

  2. Can Alderman Ed Burke win if he runs for mayor?

  3. Burke will be lucky to win reelection as alderman.

  4. Burke is part of the problem, not a solution. Can kicking and self serving have created a mess that will take decades to solve, and that’s if it starts now. Wait longer and bankruptcy is a possibility.

Thankfully Lisa recognizes she can’t fix it. Good for her.

  5. I’m not fooled. How many times have we seen this before?

Obviously, this is all part of the grand MJM/Combine conspiracy to make Lisa governor in 2030.

    That 3DChess…..

  6. Ed Burke has had the #2 position in City Government since 1989 as Finance Chairman.

He has been extremely successful, at using his government contacts to make a personal fortune and get his wife on the Illinois Supreme Court.

His fingerprints are all over the crisis in the city’s finances. Though you would never know it if you saw him at the St Patrick’s Day Parade.

He struts around like he owns the city and takes zero responsibility for his legacy of debt.

  7. Alderman Ed Burke is to the city of Chicago what speaker Mike Madigan is to the statehouse: one of the last living remnants of the Mayor Daley machine Chicago, where the Irish controlled everything- the police department, the fire department, the park district jobs, streets and san., etc.

This corrupt system made Jon Burge and police torture possible when Rich Daley Jr. was state’s attorney of Cook county. As a Chicago resident, I say a pox on them all. Let them die off, and put a stake in their hearts to make sure they’re dead.

  8. I wouldn’t count out Burke. He’s got $11 million in the bank. He also gets along with much of Chicago’s City Council. It might not sound like much but it does count for something. Many people could support him because they know he wouldn’t be looking to be around for 20 years as Mayor at his age.

  10. Ed Burke? Why not draft Ed Vrdolyak, he was always the craftier of the two. He’s at least three years younger than Jesse White, so his age shouldn’t be an issue. Bring back Council Wars.

  11. Ed Burke has a good chance of losing as 14th Ward Alderman, much less mayor. I don’t get the Beverly/Ed Burke connection. Beverly is the 19th.

  12. At some point, even the hyenas realize when their feeding grounds have become barren.

Chicago will spend decades trying to wean themselves away from the corrupt bargains that have sustained City Hall for generations.

  13. Of course she won’t.
    Family first, not politics.
