* Yesterday, you’ll recall, Sen. Sam McCann introduced legislation to repeal HB40 and the JB Pritzker and Kwame Raoul campaigns used that bill to bash their respective Republican opponents. Well, here’s today’s McCann release…
Today, Conservative Party gubernatorial candidate Sam McCann introduced a Senate resolution to support nearly 30 Illinois counties that adopted resolutions designating themselves “gun sanctuaries,” which will not enforce gun control they believe to be unconstitutional.
The resolution reads that “we commend these counties and their decision to provide sanctuary for their Citizens who wish to exercise their fundamental right under the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Illinois.”
McCann issued the following statement:
The word “sanctuary” has been misused by liberals in recent years to fool the public into accepting the lawless and dangerous abdication of basic public safety practices. A sanctuary is a place where people can go to feel safe, and in the true spirit of the word, we should support sanctuaries that protect citizens’ rights to protect themselves and their families.
With this resolution, Senators can show our support for local governments and citizens who are unwilling to let their unalienable rights be abused. I call upon all of my colleagues in the Senate to support this resolution so that Illinois can begin to remind America what a sanctuary really is.
The Tribune, by the way, played yesterday’s call and response straight.

“they believe to be unconstitutional.” Um…and if they’re not actually?

My goodness, McCann is just too “conservative” for Illinois.
When is the DGA going to put out a spot Downstate alerting voters to this menace, like they did with Ives?
In bright, shiny colors. With lots of shots of Sam with a big ol’ smile on his pumpkin, reminding voters that he is a real ballot option in November?

If we needed it:
==dangerous abdication of basic public safety practices.== in the same
statement as =will not enforce gun control=.
A reminder that Sam is the same low-functioning individual we always knew him to be.

I gotta tell ya, this is the kind of thing that makes it really hard to convince parent-friends they should do a long-weekend trip to downstate state parks. They’re gorgeous! They’re fascinating! They’re … in counties that brag about everyone packing heat.

McCann can be a hoot as he sticks it to Rauner, but this stuff is a prime example why he is not a worthy candidate for governor.

McCann is a pro-life, 2A, downstate conservative.
This plays to the 5% or so that could be the final piece to take Bruce Rauner down.
Agreed, if I’m McCann, I’d be angry if the DGA doesn’t “Ives” him… a whole ad… looking good, “extreme”, explaining McCann… where is that ad? Will we see it in 2-3 weeks?

I can’t help but notice that many of the ‘gun sanctuary counties’ are also ‘meth loving counties’. Sorry, guns and meth don’t make me feel safe. If the state steps up to try to keep guns out of the hands of methheads (and other drug users), are these counties going to rebel?

“I gotta tell ya, this is the kind of thing that makes it really hard to convince parent-friends they should do a long-weekend trip to downstate state parks.”
Do your friends stay in the friendly confines of the Suburbs and never go to any other state? 31 states have open carry laws, and the remaining handful of states allow open/conceal carry with some exceptions/restrictions.
I get that the world can be a scary place, but I think people are scared of the wrong things.

Seriously, is everyone really that stupid? McCann was put up to run by the unions and democrats. He had perfect petitions, was able to stay on the ballot and his sole mission is to be a conservative bomb thrower until election day, taking enough of the Trump votes away from Rauner to sink his chances of forming a winning coalition. Why are people in this state so dam oblivious and cannot honestly see right through this type of stuff??? Wonder what amazing appointment or job he will get post election. Not a conspiracy, just common sense and logic.

If a law passed by the GA violates the 2nd amendment and the country boards of various counties agree with that, then they should be organizing those gun owners in their county to file class action cases against the state. The entire idea of a sanctuary county for gun owners is as absurd as is Chicago’s sanctuary city status for undocumented aliens. ICE pays no attention to that designation, ATF will pay no attention to this form of sanctuary status for gun owners, nor will the Illinois State Police. In both situations the laws right or wrong will be enforced, until they are either repealed or overruled by the courts.

===ICE pays no attention to that designation===
I dunno about that. Under state law, local cops aren’t allowed to cooperate on certain cases without a judicial warrant. That would get my attention.

I want to believe him, and thanks to emotional rationalizing, courtesy of my liberal friends - I can almost do that.
It’s wonderful how they imagine rainbows with a Governor Big-Bucks.

You know as much about downstate as you know about gun laws. CCW is illegal in state parks.
