Got an interesting phone survey last night about the Chicago mayoral race. Questions were all “if the election were today and the only 2 candidates were.” Mostly Mendoza vs some of the lesser known candidates and then Mendoza vs Preckwinkle and even a mention of Bill Daley.

I can’t wait to hear reports from the field about the Pritzker Crew and their offices and early voting… and the Rauner operations, and how they are going to go about their business with early voting.
Honestly, I’m geeked out waiting to see all this unfold. Can these offices gin up the turnout. The Pritzker Field Crew were stellar in March, can they repeat (especially downstate numbers that exceed expectation or historical numbers for a general election) March benchmarks?

Last week Time had an article about the movement to have a “Convention of the States” to amend the Federal constitution. In the third paragraph the author states that Illinois is one of the states that has voted in favor of calling such a convention. That made me go “huh?” I did the google thing and could not find anything confirming this. Is, as I suspect, the author wrong?

Rahm Emmanuel in the news a lot for an outgoing mayor. He is apparently seriously considering a “guaranteed income” pilot program to help his legacy. Like handing out free money to Chicagoans that do nothing to earn it as anything new.
$500 per month (no strings attached) to 1000 families. I’m sure they won’t spend it on drugs, Nike wear, or a new big flatscreen. It will all go towards food, school supplies, and rainy day fund.

I’d almost give UI a chance vs Northwestern, but the game is on the road. That would require them not only to get the suspended and injured guys back, but also to refine the run pass option, which appears to be the bane of Pat Fitzgerald’s existence.

I was disappointed that the Bears didn’t run the ball during their last play of the game and at other times. They had a little time on the clock and two time outs. They needed a first down but had three incomplete passes. They also passed and missed on a 3rd and 2 and passed but didn’t execute on a 3rd and 1, in the 4th quarter. They have two good backs plus Trubisky looks like he can run.

Yep. They got too cute at critical junctures. If you can’t get 2 yards in 2 plays pounding the ball up the middle you deserve to lose.

In short yardage situations, Brady and Big Ben routinely go no-huddle under center and run sneaks for first downs. Virtually impossible to defend when you don’t have time to make subs.
The book on Mitch is he has still has difficulty handling the snap and the footwork required for going under center. He was strictly a shotgun/option qb in college.
He has to master going under center. It opens up play-action options that freeze the safeties and would strengthen both the passing and running games.

Be sure to get a Route 66 map that shows all the alternatives. 66 changed a LOT over the years, especially around Springfield, and you can drive on the old 66, newer 66, bypass 66, and others. This is most useful when one of the routes is now gone, mostly under I-55.
And horseshoes are good any time of the day.

Surprised nobody has posted this yet. CPS buried a report on a serial pedophile who abused dozens of kids and was eventually shot by a kid he abused. Paul Vallas was made aware of the report on the abuse and did nothing. His campaign response was incredibly lame.

77% of incoming freshmen at UI are in-staters. A record, apparently, as per N-G. Possibly reacting the the pressure to admit more in-staters, but the large size of the class is likely due to the need for revenue as well. While many may still be going out of state, that is a lot of high performers staying in state, for college at least.

Some of his issues with the snap should be attributed to Cody Whitehair. Guy is awful at center, should be moved back to guard. The last two drives against the Packers, every snap was too high and Mitch had to reach way up to snag them out of the air.

The Cubs are probably the 5th or 6th best team, in all of baseball, (NY, BOS, CLE, OAK… Astros)

I’m not predicting, but I am combining #2 and #3. I think, ideally, MJM would want to replace BFC with another woman. But, I’m not sure how interested he’d be in having any of the current women in leadership fill that role. I think Art Turner would be a great choice. No idea who’ll get it though.

Indeed, OW. Sadly, the results seem mixed. Trib article today shows increases at UIC, UIUC, EIU, and freshmen enrollment at ISU and UIS (with overall declines), but major declines at SIUC, SIUE, WIU, and NIU. Different reasoning and solutions at each school, per administrators. Looks to me like survival of the largest.
I don’t really clutch my pearls over students leaving the state for education, because Illinois is one of the few mid-continent states that imports the college educated, mostly due to the vibrancy and economy of Chicago. However, we can’t run our colleges half full, so something must be done for that reason. Shutting one or more down might be a solution, but it is a bad precedent and an economic disaster for the local area. I prefer more state aid and exploring alternative ways of delivering education that are less costly. The first college that offers a degree in 3 years will see a major jump.

For a breakfast shoe, my vote is Parkway Cafe (get off at the 100 mile maker, west to Dirksen, north to the cafe, blue building on west side of street). Alternative is Charlie Parker’s on North Street, but I prefer Parkway.

If you haven’t planned which route south of Springfield, I recommend the original one that mostly follows the current RT-4. That way you can hit the brick loop south of Chatham. At one time, RT-66 from Springfield south was all brick for quite a distance. And RT-4 alignment takes you through more of the small towns.

A big feel better to Rich. You might try the zinc lozenges (do not take on an empty stomach!), about 1000mg of vitamin C a day, and gargling with antiseptic mouthwash a few times a day (the alcohol in mouthwash may kill some of the infection, especially if you have abscesses on the tonsils).

Just north of Springfield you will be south bound on I-55 (it’s on top of the old Rt-66). To follow the old 66 / Bypass 66, take the Sherman exit, come south through Sherman, cross the Sangamon River Bridge, then at the next stop light, turn left (east) on Dirksen Parkway. Follow that under the viaduct, around the curve, and about the time you see Walmart on the left you will see Parkway Cafe on the right in a blue building just after the one stop light.
When you leave, we can guide you down one of three different alignments in Springfield and get you on RT-4.

From the AFSCME website,”At the June 13 hearing, the court questioned why the labor board had changed, without justification, the way in which it defined an impasse. The appellate panel of three judges also questioned the state’s refusal to give the union information it needed to bargain (deemed an unfair labor practice by the labor board).”
Based on this I’m not sure why the 4th District Appelate Court would rule that there is an impasse.
