Sangamon County Republicans, at a central committee meeting last week, were strongly encouraged to vote for Gov. BRUCE RAUNER even if they have disagreements with some of his actions.
“I know there are mixed feelings for our governor, and I respect your feelings,” party Chair ROSEMARIE LONG told more than 100 committeemen, officials and campaign representatives. “But do you want to wake up the next day and find out we lost by a few votes?” She said they shouldn’t let “one issue” get in the way. It was a reference to Rauner having signed a bill to expand taxpayer funded abortion.
She said the “big picture” is the coming remapping of legislative and congressional district boundaries after the 2020 Census — and the importance of being able to stop a Democratic legislature from having its way with the lines.
“Look up the words partisan and tyranny in the dictionary,” said the generally mild-mannered Long. “Friends, we’re screwed for another 10 years at least if we do not elect Bruce Rauner.”
“The bill I signed did not make Illinois a sanctuary … period, end of story,” Governor Bruce Rauner told a group of Republicans gathered in Palos Park Saturday.
Whether the Trust Act made Illinois a sanctuary state is a topic that the governor has been facing since he signed it into law last year. His frustration with what he considers confusion over the issue was evident in his reply.
“Then why are they saying that?” one of the members of the United Southland Republican Women asked.
“Because they are political attacks to undermine me,” Rauner replied. “Fake news. Listen guys, this is really important, it’s really important. I have fought sanctuary every year, I have vetoed bills and stopped it. That bill I did sign - that was a 40 page bill when it started. It … made us a sanctuary.
“I said no, and we shrunk it down to a 2-page bill and all it does is do what judges said we need to do when we’re interacting with illegal immigrants. It still says we should coordinate with ICE agents. In no way does it make us a sanctuary.”
With four weeks until the November election, incumbent Governor Bruce Rauner pulled no punches against his Democrat challenger J.B. Pritzker during a visit with United Southland Republican Women Saturday. Saying his opponent is likely to be indicted for a property tax “scheme to defraud,” Rauner said “J B” will stand for “Jail Bird.”
“People go to prison for a lot less…” the governor said. After a yearlong investigation of emails and talking to the contractors working on the mansion next door, Democrat Pritzker “cheated on his property taxes, took toilets out right before the inspection, and said ‘Nobody can live in this house, it doesn’t have toilets. It must be worthless,’” Rauner said.
“Cheated you - if you live in Cook County - out of $330,000. This is fraud, and I can darn near guarantee that he’ll be indicted sometime in the coming months. He might set a record - he could be indicted before he would become governor - that would be a record. That would be a record for the state of Illinois, and you know what - What’s ‘JB’ going to stand for? Jail Bird … ”

And how much did 1.4% cheat Cook County residents with his multiple homestead exemptions?

If your arguement 30 days out is… “the map”… and only “the map”… Rauner having NO constituency is rural than even I thought in my mind.
At some point, you dump the losing candidates to save the ones you can.
Rauner is savable? Um, ok… go with that.

This seems like a lot of effort to expend on the six remaining undecided Illinois voters.

Even if this were true, I’d still much prefer Julianna over Rauner.
Rauner’s rally cry…”I may lie a lot, refuse to govern, and have my own ethical lapses but at least I’m not in jail. AmIrite?”

The poor guy thinks people actually believe anything that flies out of his mouth? I’m guessing the indictment will drop right after all those businesses from Japan and Europe that he recruited come to Illinois.
Does he have someone he appointed to a state position working in the Cook County States Attorney Office who leaked to him the indictment?

One issue??? If only it was just one issue. Starve the beast. 30/60. Magic beans. Quincy. RTW. All the code words for union busting. Yep, the map is the 10 year prize. Too bad the repubs are in such lousy shape to contend, that a co chmn has to beg stalwarts not to abandon ship. One issue, ha.

Rhetoric aside, from where I sit the potential criminal liability for both of them is very low on all of these issues. The folks on the hook at the veteran’s home and Sterigenics are the people actually operating them and in the case of the home the people involved in not making the issue public early on. On the property tax thing, if I remember correctly JB doesn’t personally own the mansion, and the problems there lie in the actions done and documents signed to misrepresent the state of the place. That was done by others. Yes, both can be tagged with these issues politically, but if it came to it legally, others would take the fall.

Could someone ask BTIA(TM) to provide their research into the types and numbers of criminal indictments relating to property tax “fraud” over the years?
Rauner’s statement must be based in reality, amirite?
Maybe Pat Brady could help. I hear he’s taken over the Drury role of “former federal prosecutor” in the Bad Springfield Opera.

Okay, if we’re going to go there, has the statute of limitations expired on Rauner fraudulently enrolling his daughter into an elite Chicago public high school?

===Okay, if we’re going to go there, has the statute of limitations expired on Rauner fraudulently enrolling…===
(Sigh)
Yes, that’s the rub.
The real property tax question part of the question is…
“How can Rauner take his homeowner exemption in Winnetka… and say his legal residence is Chicago to allow his denied daughter to attend a Chicago high school”
That’s the property tax issue here.
Two things to square for Rauner, yes, but how can Rauner even get to clout his denied daughter into Payton Prep if their legal residence, according to a homeowner exemption is… Winnetka?
Very respectfully.

JB did not own the property, did not sign any of the documents and his name does not appear on any of the documents in the IG’s letter. It’s going to take more than a couple of months to trace this back to JB in a way that would allow you to prove in court that he committed fraud. And, if the water damage and stair and floor problems are as claimed, his reduced appraisal seems to be perfectly fine under the existing policy of the Appraiser’s office, so where is the fraud?
But it sure sounds nice, which is all that matters in campaigning.

Cook County voters are used to being defrauded by Cook County politicians.
Madigan has been using his influence to shift the property tax burden from his millionaire and billionaire clients downtown to the bungalow belt for decades.
One more reason why we lead the nation in distrust of government

What a cry baby. When he was the richest guy, everything was great. Now, he whines that his opponent inherited his money. As a guy with multiple homes himself, he should understand that doing a gut rehab on a house means that you can’t live there during the renovation. Seriously, his lies assume that we’re all too stupid to understand. He had his shot and he failed. Can’t wait to hear his concession speech and try to explain how he came in third. Can’t wait until he get lit up at the polls. I’d have some respect if he ever accepted that he made mistakes. Wait until the dead vets ads start. Laugh that off Bruce.

2014 GOP primary - Sangamon County
Dillard - 61.82%
Rauner - 16.89%
Brady - 13.93%
Rutherford - 7.36%
Rauner carried few Illinois counties in Downstate.Rauner won the nomination by carrying Chicagoland and the Quads.

Well, yes, by definition, if he will not get 15%, it will be less.
But don’t you feel a wee bit silly making that ridiculous prediction?
Sangamon County GOP guv votes:
Rauner 2016, 55%
Brady, 2010, 58%
JBT, 2006, 68%
Where do you think those GOP majorities came from? Druids?
Comment by wordslinger Tuesday, Oct 9, 18 @ 12:40 pm
McCann’s job is to keep reminding social conservatives that Rauner enacted sanctuary cities, expanded taxpayer-funded abortions and is openly pro-choice.
Rauner also did not forcefully defend Kavanaugh, after our president fought so hard and remained steadfast in having him nominated and confirmed. He won’t even say if he voted for Trump. As far as political guts, Rauner is the anti-Trump.
Comment by Grandson of Man Tuesday, Oct 9, 18 @ 12:42 pm
Rauner should beware the jailbird remarks, as Karma is a harsh mistress, and there are enough skeletons in his own closet as governor to possibly lead to a post-election indictment of Rauner for Quincy, the back porch deals, the CMS office rental deals, etc.

I have always wondered about this very point. Its been Democrats that have been trying to protect these pensions carried by a bunch of state workers who owe their jobs to the Republican Party. Republicans want to strip those benefits and regularly talk about them like they are just mooching off the state and don’t deserve to get paid what they paid into for their retirement. How many of those folks are seriously still voting Republican.
Just seems a little ironic. I am honestly confused about that.

No AFSCME contract, finally did get back pay, still no step increases, right to work, most state agencies running on fumes, main objective is to bust unions - all Rauner. So state workers in Sangamon may still well vote GOP, but I suspect many if not most will not vote Rauner.
