* Press release…
Today, the Rauner campaign is launching a new digital video titled “Bruce and Diana on Illinois’ Future.”
Bruce and Diana raised their family here in Illinois and understand the promise that the state holds for the future. Illinois is their home, and they know that home is worth fighting for.
* Ad…
* Script…
Governor Rauner: “I was born and raised in Illinois, we’ve raised six wonderful children here, and I just feel so connected to this place. Illinois is a very special place, it’s a very special home, and I never want to leave. I think Illinois has an incredibly exciting future, and I think we’re at a key inflection point, a key turning point for the state. We’ve had a lot of frustrations. Many of our children have been leaving the state, many residents have been moving, our taxes seem to go up all the time, we’ve had not nearly as many jobs growing in the state as we should. We’ve improved some of that, but we’re at a point where I believe we can achieve dramatic improvements in the next few years. We have such wonderful people in our state. We have such great location and natural advantages.”
Diana Rauner: “The natural beauty and the natural resources of Illinois, our strategic center at the middle of the country, is actually something that is undervalued.”
Governor Rauner: “We can be, and I believe will be, a booming economy with great opportunity for everyone.”

Two peas in a pod. They are joined at the hip and they almost accomplished their goal of destroying Illinois.

*bleep* you, governor …

Remember…
It’s Bruce and Diana Rauner.
No colleagues, no family members, no person whose job Bruce created, no business partners, no college buddies…
They have each other.
The phony Democrat Diana Rauner whose uber-left, costal, limousine liberal agenda… created no base for Bruce… while now propagating racism and homophobia…
… but Bruce is a good man…
Just. Ask. Diana.
The ad? It’s a “C-“
It’s a reminder, that Diana Rauner made the Administration of Bruce Rauner more liberal than any “Democrat” from California could ever hope.

Talk about mood swings… Citizens for Rauner must be back on their meds with this homespun tale after yesterday’s “Illinois is ______ed”.
The Rauners can keep servin’ up their Kool-Aid, but a lot of us are sick of the “punch” it serves up.

How? By lowering taxes? By ending collective bargaining?

Bruce Rauner: Valuing Illinois’ Strategic Center at the Middle of the Country
I don’t know how Pritzker comes back from that.
Comment by Montrose Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 9:48 am
This, from the family that cut funding for autism programs on national autism awareness day. So long Rauners, enjoy one of your homes in another state or better yet, another country.

They love Illinois so much, the minute they can’t milk it dry, they’re jetting to Italy.
Comment by Precinct Captain Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 9:51 am
“I couldn’t forgive him or like him, but I saw that what he had done was, to him, entirely justified. It was all very careless and confused. They were careless people, Bruce and Diana—they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.”
Comment by Moe Berg Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 9:52 am
Galling that Bruce Rauner constantly wears a U of I ballcap. He deliberately gutted the state universities. And UI took the biggest hit.
He and Diana are elitists of the worst sort, who think all of us yokels won’t ever realize how flagrantly they have been lying to us.
Comment by Handle Bar Mustache Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 10:02 am
With all these ads from different angles, I feel like I am watching the TV game show ‘To Tell the Truth’, trying to figure out who the real Rauner is.
Comment by RNUG Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 10:03 am
–Illinois is a very special place, it’s a very special home, and I never want to leave.–
Now he tells us, after more than three years of demeaning the state and insulting its residents every chance he got?
Italy too is a very special place, and methinks the Gov and his spouse will enjoy retiring there.
This is all becoming very distressing.

Sounds a lot like a seventh-grader faking their way through an Illinois geography quiz.

Diana is under used in this ad just like she’s been underused by the campaign. Another departure from their winning strategy of four years ago.
Comment by Roman Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 10:17 am
OW you are being kind with a C-. I don’t believe anything those two say about anything. If they said it was sunny outside I would grab my umbrella. This is just more fluff, and nonsense, we have had enough of that the last 4 years. “D-” It moves no one on the vote meter.
Comment by Retired Educator Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 10:22 am
- “Another departure from their winning strategy of four years ago.”
It doesn’t work because Rauner’s strategy of lying about everything to get elected just isn’t believable anymore.

Nice ad with great pacing. Seems to be targeted towards rural voters. Not sure there would be much effect with urban and suburban voters.

Moe, the Gatsby quote hits pretty good.

Diana seems like such a nice genuine person until you read her emails.
Comment by JS Mill Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 10:37 am
I’m glad they have each other to reinforce their opinions and actions. Her gazing at him early on in the ad is about as creepy as it gets. Geez.
Comment by flea Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 10:41 am
He didn’t mention Madigan or corrupt Chicago Democrats in that ad. Could it be that 2 weeks before the election they realized that it wasn’t moving the needle much and it was time to show Raunner in a new light. A kinder, gentler Bruce Rauner might appeal more to the voters?
There’s nothing kind and gentle about a guy who only signed one budget as Governor and only then because it was an election year. The ad was so disingenuous but that’s who he is.
Comment by The Dude Abides Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 10:44 am
==I don’t believe anything those two say about anything.==
I wish someone had the resources and methodology to do a deep study on the effectiveness of Rauner’s ads. I have this suspicion that he’s just such a compromised messenger that people all act like you, or at best just tune him out. And some ad gurus have said this. But I have no real data to back that up.

Sounds a lot like a seventh-grader faking their way through an Illinois geography quiz.
And was sick the that week in third grade when they taught subject-verb agreement. Can’t Mrs Rauner afford a copy editor.

“… strategic center at the middle of the country, is actually something that is undervalued.”–
What does that even mean, what is it supposed to communicate. Undervalued by whom, actually?
Certainly not those whose business is moving goods and people around the country.
The North Shore cocktail circuit, perhaps?

===ck===
I’ve always liked “ck”, and in realizing “ck” had a role, my mocking, like towns and counties supporting the “TA Agenda”, it is as always the message, not “ck”… as we all should remember, it was “ck” who had to put her name to things others shoulda, which was grossly unfair.
I’d like to think “ck” understands me better, but that’s just me, I can’t speak for her, but I hope that’s the case.

Apparently by Rauner. He did his best to d story the State, talking it down every chance he had.

Be fair. Bustout Bruce made a fortune like that in the private sector.

Take that Illini hat off Bruce. You are no friend of the University.
Comment by Maestro Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 12:11 pm
I can only imagine what Diana was thinking with that fawning look. All that comes to mind is, “I can’t believe these rubes still take Bruce at his word.”

===“I can’t believe these rubes still take Bruce at his word.”===
From the look on her face it might have been more along the lines of:
“Only a few more weeks until we’re in Tuscany.”
She looks nearly as relieved as he does that this long nightmare is almost over.
Comment by 47th Ward Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 12:23 pm
Two key things to the video…
Rauner trying to be likable two weeks out is too little too late…
Forgetting you’re the incumbent in this video, there’s nothing here to tout achievements
Failing campaigns do videos like this.
Rauner isn’t likable, no successes.
It’s actually embarrassing. They look a bit uncomfortable too.
Comment by Oswego Willy Wednesday, Oct 24, 18 @ 12:56 pm
Rated it a D. Makes me dislike him that much more, just reinforces the fact that he has little in the way of any accomplishments to run on. But hey they want us to think the’re a likable couple that loves Illinois while destroying it.

Ironic, these two recent “kinder and gentler” Bruce Rauner ads.
If voters bite and re-elect him, he will likely return to the task of excoriating huge swaths of Illinois residents, which is neither kind nor gentle.
