Here’s a frame-by-frame look that clearly shows the Parkey kick was tipped by Treyvon Hester (Hester confirmed to @Bo_Wulf he tipped it). pic.twitter.com/6dOXui7Yyp

And if the Bears best us on Sunday, I will be cheering for them to go all the way. This concludes my political announcement and hopefully a resolution to my thorniest political issue ever. 🦅

Heh.
On the positive side, we’re just 36 days away from pitchers and catchers reporting.

Uber issued a press release saying that Cody Parkey would not be driving for them after the Bears release him from the roster. “We have concerns that he will drive on the sidewalks or hit the left guard-rails on the Dan Ryan”, said an Uber spokeswoman.

Now knowing the ball was tipped makes me feel better. Not great, but knowing the miss was because of defense rather than Parky just having a bad kick takes away a little bit of the sting. A little.

This takes the heat off the kicker. Who was the blocker who dropped the ball?
Comment by anon2 Monday, Jan 7, 19 @ 1:53 pm
Who among us hasn’t shanked one or hit the upright along the way? It’s a shame. Kickers have to ply their wares in public. I love the Bears, but I’m not thinking they were SB ready just yet. He didn’t cost them that. Though very expensive for the Bears; he likely cost himself this job.
Nagy’s right. Bottle it up and take it out on every team you see next year…when they are very likely (really) Super Bowl ready.

Parkey should change his uniform number to 86.

I’m not a big NFL watcher. So, I am pretty impartial. I find it odd that people said Parkey had a bad game. He made 9 of the 15 points for the Bears. And the one that he missed was tipped. He was 3 for 4. In any other sport, that’d be great.

=Who among us hasn’t shanked one or hit the upright along the way?=
Good point. However, had he not had that game against the Lions where he hit the post not once, not twice, but four times. He get paid a lot of money to do one job. And he didn’t do it very well. I do feel bad for him.

His first “practice” kick was obviously low. He should’ve elevated the second one.

After I finished feeling sorry for myself about the ending and how my next few weeks will be Bear free, I said a prayer for Parkey.
In the end, he’s a real human being who is likely feeling really down and the knee jerk Neanderthal fans aren’t helping him feel better.
Comment by Tommydanger Monday, Jan 7, 19 @ 2:09 pm
Does Parkey hold the record for most goal-posts hit during a season? Do they keep track of that? I don’t think he nor any other kicker in the NFL could hit the goal post 6 times in one season if they tried to do it.
Comment by Dog on Sheffield Monday, Jan 7, 19 @ 2:15 pm
I would have been a lot more upset if it was the NFC Championship game, and crushed if it was the Super Bowl. Chicago is an astonishing 12-1 in pro sports championships, beginning with the ‘85 Bears.
The Bears couldn’t run the ball yesterday. The Eagles did a heck of a job. I’m optimistic about the Bears’ future.
Comment by Grandson of Man Monday, Jan 7, 19 @ 2:15 pm
Feel bad for Parkey.
I like the way he confronted it head-on.
Of course, he’s also paid millions to kick a football at a professional level.
Millions.
So my compassion has it’s limits.
Comment by Michelle Flaherty Monday, Jan 7, 19 @ 2:15 pm
Never in my wildest thoughts did I think the Bears would be 12 and 4 at the end of the season. Their young and learning. The 85 Bears didn’t happen overnight it took a couple years
Comment by Chunga Monday, Jan 7, 19 @ 2:17 pm
Rather than scapegoat Cody (and his guaranteed $9 million salary), I’m more upset with Ryan Pace for ‘upgrading’ Robbie Gould (who was 33 of 34 this year)…especially after watching rookie Michael Badgley of the Chargers (20 of 22)
In my opinion, poor 3rd down conversion and two penalties (and one blown call) cost the Bears the game.
Comment by Jocko Monday, Jan 7, 19 @ 2:26 pm
I was out there, it was a great game between 2 similar teams. We saw exactly why they ice kickers. The team was all family before the game–important to keep up team chemistry. But soon, it’ll be a “business decision” and Parkey will be all t’ru wid da Bears.

Trying to get back into the swing, this day just won’t let me, but that twitter, @anacaprara, if you aren’t checking it out, especially for the Eagles, great stuff, so very wicked smart.
My take on kickers has always been; like golf, the swings are seemingly the same, it’s what is at stake when taking that swing that changes everything. No one is trying to hit poor shots, miss kicks, but your chosen profession allows scrutiny. It is what it is. Kickers.
I thought with Mack, 10-6… they outperformed even that.
You gotta beat the champs, to *be* the champs.
This team is projecting upwards, they might only get better and better, even if Fangio moves on, the talent stays.
Go Bears, 36 days till pitchers and catchers…

I haven’t really cared about the NFL for a few years, but I know my cuzzos were devastated…until the whiskey shots kicked in & they started talking about how exciting next year was gonna be.
Any team that can keep fans excited for next season right after a gut punch of a season-ender is doing something right.

At the risk of triggering Anne Stava-Murrary, the Bears haven’t won the Super Bowl since they got rid of the Honeybears.
Just saying.

==Bears kickers were 30 for 41 (73.2 percent) on field goal attempts at home since the start of the 2016 season…
Eagles kicker Jake Elliott hit his only try from 43 yards to raise opponents at Soldier Field since the start of the 2016 season to 47 for 50 (94 percent).==
From Bigg’s article in the Trib.
Pace created this problem by giving up on Gould too soon and he needs to find a solution to it.
Comment by ChicagoVinny Monday, Jan 7, 19 @ 3:06 pm
“In my opinion, poor 3rd down conversion and two penalties (and one blown call) cost the Bears the game.” Totally agree, and would add the defense’s inability to get off the field at a critical time. If it hadn’t been for that, Trubisky would have been kneeling instead of the holder.

Couldn’t watch the kick. Told my wife “He’s going to hit he upright,” and stormed out of the room.
Wife then yells: “It’s your fault.”
Somehow that reflected much about how we each feel about me returning to Springfield.

Pepsi should use Parkey in a remake of their “icing” commercial.
Comment by BobO Monday, Jan 7, 19 @ 4:49 pm
Apparently some loonies are threatening Parkey and his family. The only one who would possibly be justified thinking that way would be Virginia McCaskey, and she’s much too classy. It’s only a game.
Comment by West Side the Best Side Monday, Jan 7, 19 @ 4:53 pm
Parker Posey or whatever-the-name-that-will-always-live-in-infamy, is now a sad Chicago legend.
But the Bears need to score more touchdowns.
You don’t deserve to win a playoff game against the Super Bowl champs even if you hit 18 points. This ain’t 1966.
You need to be consistently able to score 30 points against any team if you want to win in the NFL. And the Bears ain’t there yet.
Having said that, Nagy might be the goods. Get a wide receiver who can blow the top off the secondary.
The Bears defense is rocking and solid. The offense needs to score points.

Parkey was a bad kicker all season. He needs to go, and I don’t really feel bad for him.
Comment by Three Dimensional Checkers Monday, Jan 7, 19 @ 6:19 pm
It was a bad kick, anyway you look at it. So you’re telling me, that kicking from the right hashmark, the ball was “tipped” and still managed to hit high off of the left goal post? So the “tip”, instead of lessening the distance of the kick or impeding the right to left trajectory of the kick actually caused the ball to hit the far goal post? Come on. The kick clearly had the distance, and if Parkey kicks it down the middle, that “tip” isn’t enough to stop it. Secondly, the lower angle at which he kicked the ball (in order to get further distance, which he clearly did, tip or no tip) caused the so-called “tip”, so either way, Parkey is not absolved. I’m sure he’s a fine person, and I don’t wish ill upon the man, but he can’t and shouldn’t be on the Bears next season.
Comment by IlliniSpartan Monday, Jan 7, 19 @ 6:34 pm
Parkey never should have been in this game. He should been cut mid season with the number of missed kicks this year. Ryan Pace should have Robbie Gould the money.
