Thank god it wasn’t Boston.

Twas a wild ride to an unpredictable ending. Who would have thought that a team that started out as poorly would end up being the highlight of the franchise.

Congrats to Blues fans, from a Blackhawks fan. It’s such a great thrill. The rookie goalie was lights out and kept the Blues in the game early, when Boston dominated offensively. Very historically significant win, since in 1970 the great Bruin Bobby Orr won it in overtime against the Blues, taking the immortal horizontal leap when he scored the Cup winner.
As for Boston, condolences. They haven’t won a championship since…this past Super Bowl and World Series.

Not sure who had slower reactions last night, Tuukka Rask or the guy manning the f bomb mute button for NBC.

AnonForNow, my thoughts exactly. even though this seems like a choose or die moment for Hawks fans, given the feeling about the Blues. even Tom Brady trying to trademark “Tom Terrific” drives me nuts. enough of Boston.

I expected it to grind into overtime. Boston had plenty of golden opportunities, it was just one of those nights where the other team was better. I’m also glad there were no controversial calls in Game 7.

I have a few friends from Boston on Facebook and they have been getting rather smug all year. This should take them down a peg or two.
And congratulations to the Blues!

===I’m also glad there were no controversial calls in Game 7.===
What about the blatant missed call for too many men on the ice with 2 seconds left? /s

Ran into Bostonian strangers today, and while they were disappointed, they were happy for a club that had never won before. Classy in defeat, and good on STL.

Satisfied with the outcome. As a Hawks fan, I’m glad that our division rival played a long, tiring season and is now going to be partying instead of practicing all summer long.
Also satisfied that Backes doesn’t have a cup.
Honestly, I feel like the Blues play with skill and integrity most of the time (post-Backes). I don’t like them, but I still respect them.
I don’t respect Boston’s typical style of play.

I like it when small market teams win - shows the NHL is competitive.
I’ve been to Canada in June when you couldn’t find an NBA semifinal or finals game on TV at a bar because everyone’s watching hockey - probably not the case this year!

Never thought I would see the day. Blues fan for 40 years. After the period in the 90’s where a half dozen Hall of Famers came through the club and they never even sniffed the Final, I certainly never expected a worst to first story like this with a rookie goaltender of all things. Amazing.

Wonderful!!!
Memories of hockey in the old barn before small, devoted crowds.
I feel quite sorry for David Backes.
Jordan Binnington ought to be MVP.
Notice that Berube is still “interim” coach, while the stupid Cards’ Mo and DeWitt made Schildt perma coach after a couple months of improvement, not sustained into this season.
Comment by Penny Thursday, Jun 13, 19 @ 9:52 am
Casual Blues fan, but man was my heart pumping in that first period when Binnington was under constant assault, but just kept battling.

“What about the blatant missed call for too many men on the ice with 2 seconds left? /s” Well…I did say “controversial” not “missed.” /s (Actually there was also a blatant slash by Boston that wasn’t called either, but it was already 4-0 by that point.)

Great win for the Blues! The Governor needs to do a photo op with JB Binnington—JB meets JB

The Cubs have won a World Series more recently than the Cardinals.
The Blues have now one a Stanley Cup more recently than the Blackhawks.
We must be approaching the End Times. /s

It was only a few minutes after the game ended and AC station Y98.1 in St. Louis had apparently already switched to continuous loops of the Blues’ theme song: Laura Branigan’s late 1982 hit, “Gloria.” I stumbled across it on one of my radios at home in Chatham, where some St. Louis FM signals start to break through even on non-car radios.
Interestingly, “Gloria” was on its way near the top of the charts at the time the Cardinals won the ‘82 World Series.

I’m a Hawks fan, so no love lost for the Blues. But that Laila story sure made you get a lump in your throat. And then seeing Parayko bring the Cup to her was an amazing moment.

So happy

Last night St. Louis was electric. Went and saw Phish and Trey and the boys broke out Gloria and the old stones classic loving cup back to back. Stanley, meet Gloria!!!
Comment by UpperDownstate Thursday, Jun 13, 19 @ 11:12 am
Blues fan for 30+ years. They were almost unstoppable after a loss, even devastating losses like 7-2, 5-1, and the hand-pass OT loss against San Jose. Shows that they could move on to the next game. The Blues of 10-20 years ago would have folded like a nervous poker player after the hand-pass debacle. Lord Stanley, meet St. Louis. Love it.

==“Gloria” was on its way near the top of the charts at the time the Cardinals won the ‘82 World Series.==
It apparently hit #37 on the iTunes chart this year. Another 80’s tune resurrected by a sports championship run.

I’ve never been for or against the Blues, but I’m really happy for St. Louis. It’s where my mom grew up and I spent a lot of time there growing up. It’s some good consolation for the disappointment felt by the Rams’ departure.

Good for the Blues, at the local watering hole last night the fans were ecstatic and rightly so. A much better performance than Sunday night, glad they showed up but it would have been sweeter at home. Game 7 Stanley Cup finals is just about as good as it gets (other than a Game 7 OT) in my opinion.

I live near St Louis and was in Chicago last Thursday and watched the Blues win at a packed bar in downtown. Mostly a younger crowd and, except for a few of us from St Louis, all in for Boston. Why? Being from the Midwest I could never root for a coastal team (pro or college) against a “local” let alone any team from New England. I’m a die hard Cardinal fan but would support the Cubs over any other team. Why the hate for STL?
Comment by Retired State Worker Thursday, Jun 13, 19 @ 12:20 pm
@ Retired State Worker. I agree with you. I am a Blackhawks fan. However, I was happy to cheer for the Blues. Great win for the team.
Comment by Scamp640 Thursday, Jun 13, 19 @ 12:28 pm
It’s hard for this rabid Blackhawks fan to say something good about the Blues. But when I saw what they did with super-fan Laila Anderson, it’s even harder to hold a grudge against them. That moment showed how our sports heroes can become real heroes. Thank you, Blues.

Gag.

For those who do not understand why Blackhawk fans hate the Blues, there was this incident back in 1991 which has been called the St. Patrick’s Day massacre. In any case, the hatred of Cub fans for the Cardinals extends to all St. Louis sports teams.

Loved every second of the entire post-season run by the Blues. I have had my heart broken so many times over the years, I almost can’t believe it happened.
