Crain’s reports that Chicago may be losing out to New York:
The New York Daily News is trying to lure Chicago Sun-Times Editor Michael Cooke to the Big Apple, according to Sun-Times Publisher John Cruickshank.Rumors predicting Mr. Cooke’s leap to New York have been persistent enough to penetrate the pages of the New York Post in recent months.
Mr. Cruickshank says there’s something to it.
“The Daily News has been coming after him,†says Mr. Cruickshank. “He hasn’t resigned yet.â€
Not precisely sure what the internal politics are behind this story, but the Sun-Times has been on a roll this past year (starting with the hired truck scandal scoop 12 months ago), and Cooke has played a major role in the paper’s rebirth.
