* I’m told Shaw was out of town the other day when the item was posted to Facebook. Four or five people in the group had administrative permission to post stuff on the page, but there was supposed to be a process in place and it wasn’t followed. That, anyway, is their story and they’re sticking to it in these times of strife…
Mark Shaw, the Lake County GOP chairman who heads the state county chairmen’s group, said the posting was “not authorized by me” and said he was “sorry if anyone who saw the image was offended by the contents.”
Shaw said the post had been deleted, and he called it an “unfortunate distraction” from the ideological issues involving the four progressive congresswoman.
On Facebook, Shaw called the posting “unauthorized.” Then he explained how the group has a “multistage, approval process for all social media posts on any of its social media properties.” That process, he said, is being “reevaluated.”

Schneider hasn’t returned my phone and email messages. Nor has Shaw, who said in a Facebook post that the “Jihad squad” poster was unauthorized by him. But party sources I talk to seem to have a pretty good idea of what really happened here, and it’s worth noting that the same poster appears to have been retweeted by the Lake County GOP, where Shaw is the chairman.
Either way, instead of talking about how to win as a minority party in this state, or about how Democrats have messed up, Illinois Republicans today are having to explain why they’re not as bad as they look. Above and beyond the moral considerations, that’s not helpful politically.

For the Party who preaches “personal responsibility,” I have yet to see one person take ownership of what happened here.
I guess the Illinois GOP have gone full Rauner and will say, “I’m not in charge, I’m trying to get to be in charge,” and eventually blame Mike Madigan for all of this nonsense.
Seriously, the GOP acts nothing like what they preach. If this were a private company, any and all who were involved in this process would be fired. We saw it happen with Papa Johns, Lincoln Land Goodwill (Not-For Profit), and Netflix.
To me, the IRCCA Chairman should promptly fire anyone and everyone involved in making the decision to disseminate this garbage. After he’s finished, he should turn his keys in and resign.

Jihad means struggle. It can be internal, for example an alcoholic struggling to not drink alcohol. Technically all politicians, including Skillicorn practice jihad, that is they all struggle to get their beliefs turned to action.

The silence of those most in need of racist language to remain in positions of governing “seem” to be most silent.
Why is that?
Allen Skillicorn is the worst of the believers of racial/ethnic divide *is* best to grow a party, and be a leader of the religion that some want a political party to be.
I wholly condemn this post done by the Illinois Republican Country Party Chairs, there is not a place for it, even thinking that something like this should be a party’s thought is everything wrong with how the Republican Party has decided to be less.
Anything less than pressing forward with significant and honest overview of how this occurred, and what will be done going forward is sadly passively supporting the Post, no matter what lip service others think is helping.
There is no whataboutism.
The millisecond one decides that path, your own condemnation is a mocking rhetorical joke.
Either stand up to this, or don’t. It matters not how others go, because… all language like this should be condemned, no matter the side, not because of sides.

Racist. pure and simple. Horrifying. that said, I’m also tired of the line that Nancy Pelosi is racist for chiding members….see Esther Cepeda column in today’s Tribune. The “squad” elevated themselves by attacking Dems who did not support their liberal immigration policies. The attacks included tweets by Cong. Ocasio-Cortez’s chief of staff on a Native American and Lesbian member of Congress, Sharice Davids. (she’s also a former MMA fighter, and Cornell law grad, so she’s tough.) And the attacks were answered including by a female African American Member of Congress from Alabama- whose name escapes me. Polarizing at both ends of the political spectrum. Not good for democracy.

I haven’t self-identified as a Republican in well over two years and it is stuff like this that reminds me why.
This isn’t a failure of a process, you shouldn’t need a process to prevent people you trust enough to give access to posting social media content from posting this stuff. Those are people you shouldn’t trust to share that stuff, nor for that matter hold those feelings.
Between this and the Oswego parade thing, it is high time to ask why there is a group of folks who feel comfortable expressing these sorts of thoughts and others within a Republican context, in public no less. If you don’t ask that question and address that question you are quickly going to be the party of folks who comment on facebook about alternative state fair boycotts and send screeds to Rich. It is great to condemn this and say ‘we have a process’, but the fact that there are folks who feel comfortable sharing this stuff in your name should make you very uncomfortable. It isn’t the process failed, it is that you need a process to keep folks you should trust from expressing this stuff that is a problem as well.
Go step on a commuter train from Naperville, look at the folks on that train and ask ‘Does this sort of stuff appeal to them? Would this get them to vote for our candidates?” I think the answer is going to be kind of obvious.
On the plus side, the undercurrent that I had always kind of suspected was there now has the courage or the cover to come out and show itself. It makes it easier for folks like me to accept what you have become and decide we want no part of it.
I would say good luck, but at this point, that would be a lie. As long as the party is a fertile place for these folks I wish you bad luck and if more taxes and more government are the prices I have to pay for that, so be it.

After the Ives-Rauner primary, for party unity, it was Rauner and Schneider that elevated Shaw, and in that position, Shaw has allowed a Post like this to linger.
You should ask Rauner how he could do this to the party with the same voice as *you* look for others to be, rightly, held accountable.

What Trump is doing is purposeful and strategic, and it’s dangerous. It’s not an accident that these four women of color have been selected to attack for political gain. It’s his re-election strategy. It’s ginning up rage, and we’ve seen what that does, with the synagogue shooting and bombs sent to prominent people.
It also stirs up rage that could hurt Republican leaders, which is horrible and equally as wrong. A leader turns the temperature down on hatred and division. We have a president who is actually fomenting and encouraging hatred and violence.

Follow me for a moment but a lot of the issues with the Republican Party in Illinois can be traced back to the map. When you pack districts with super majority republicans you give a greater voice to the fringe of the party. When they spout off their vile hate it drives the more reasonable republicans from the party. So, when the reasonable republicans leave what’s left? Allen Skillicorn, Geanie Ives and the so-called Eastern Bloc. The suburbs were a bloodbath for R’s at every level last election. They lost the 14th Congressional for Pete’s sake.

Is it really though? Sure, this stuff is offensive to us here - but is it really that offensive to republican voters? This is the stuff trump retweets all the time, stuff created by the type of online personalities that he personally invites to the White House and claims are being “muzzled” by twitter and Facebook. 90% of republicans support trump, so shouldn’t the state parties be following his lead and expressing these sorts of thoughts as well? Durkin and Demmer may not like it, but aren’t we well past the time where one can honestly argue that this stuff “has no place” in today’s Republican Party as Demmer claims? The “group of folks” you refer to above are clearly in charge of things now, not some small clique within the national party.

The racism is bad enough. The endorsement of political murder should not be tolerated. The House should consider a disciplinary procedure.
This is no joking matter and Skillicorn should not be simply dismissed as a goofball. He deserves censure and, frankly, GOP members and party leaders should be condemning this, too.

This isn’t a bug, it’s a feature.
While a few may be sincere in their condemnation, for the most part it’s faux condemnation of a tactic intended to gin up the base. Sadly that is what the GOP has become. In the quest for power, it’s leaders has adopted the tactics of hate and intolerance. This isn’t new, but the Trumpian takeover of the party has amplified this repugnant practice to new heights.
Policy should be our battleground not race, gender or other difference. Furthermore, that battle should be fought on truth and facts, not hate.

What has happened is Skillicorn, the Eastern Bloc, folks sowing discontent and division aren’t the goofballs, they are the ones driving the party content by thinking smaller, in racist, regional thoughts, pandering to those “like me”

Saying “fire them” or condemning, the goal needs to be not only pressing forward to how this happened, but going forward, what *will* happen, including personnel changes, and the removal of those responsible, seen not as just a quick fix, but a turning of the what the party stands for after this.
You should ask Mr. Shaw yourself, aren’t you both in the same congressional district?

You may not like that, but choices have consequences.

The move these days is to ask “Hey, remember how the crowd on this train used to look? Wasn’t everything a whole lot better back then?,” but in a way that can’t be directly attributed back to you.

I don’t think the message is meant as much for the people who step on and off commuter trains in Naperville but more for those from rural areas, where Confederate and hyper-patriot merchandise is sold in gas stations.

from the 1860s to the 1930s our political parties switched it is time that the party of Lincoln be switched to democrat the current republican party has nothing in common with what Lincoln believed some of the same things can be said of Ronald Reagan also an Illinois native

Once those Dixiecrat Dems became GOP members in the Congress… and Nixon’s southern strategy pounced on that new alignment… that’s the line of change. That’s the Genesis of Trump, and 2019 America.

Let’s look at that 1964 Civil Rights Act.
The Dixiecrats were angered the Hubert Humphrey and (gasp) Everett Dirksen, from Illinois, and a Republican, delivered the Senate for the bills passage.
Here’s where you need to think; The Dixiecrats are so angered by this passage, and the “liberal Dems”, they flipped parties to become Republicans, who actually made the margin for the passage of the bill possible.
Ronald Reagan, a Goldwater conservative, in 1962, understood labor wasn’t a Dem thing, but an economic thing, and the Reagan Revolution was an economically driven (through the way it was rolled out) not a racial dividing to force anger towards other Americans.
The point in this exercise is from the middle 60’s on, the GOP enjoyed the hidden and seedy at times racial support the Dems in the “South” enjoyed until LBJ’s signature.
As the National Archives notes in their two part study of the Act;
===The night that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed, I (Bill Moyers, a former aide to LBJ) found him in the bedroom, exceedingly depressed. The headline of the bulldog edition of the Washington Post said, “Johnson Signs Civil Rights Act.” The airwaves were full of discussions about how unprecedented this was and historic, and yet he was depressed. I asked him why.
He said, “I think we’ve just delivered the South to the Republican Party for the rest of my life, and yours.”===
The idea isn’t *either* party is more or less racist, the idea is the racist try to find the best party to help in normalizing their racism.

willy I was never a Reagan fan never voted for him but he did say several good things I rember the news from 1964 and also the food pantries that he started Lincoln on the other hand said a house divided can not stand and we have the eastern bloc I know where you are coming from and understand all you said and agree but this is 2019 not 1964 things have changed and not for the good I love this state and the union we live in but I am sure both Lincoln and Reagan would roll over in their graves if they knew what was going on in their home state of Illinois and the nation that they led

Trump is not a Republican, Trump is an opportunist who knew the GOP could be manipulated to his brand of “angry-white” racial divide that the Dems, post 1964, couldn’t harbor.
It’s critical. It’s important.
It’s critical and important to realize how we got here, how this all happened, and how an opportunist who believes all these awful things he says… found the party where his “like minded” folks use, to hide… but now feel embolden to speak so ill too.
