In Illinois, when people have their firearms owners identification cards revoked, they’re supposed to turn them in to law enforcement and surrender their guns. But that only happened less than half of the time in the metro-east and statewide during the last four years.
In St. Clair County, FOID cards were returned just under 36 percent of the time after they were revoked from 2015-18, according to Illinois State Police data obtained by the Belleville News-Democrat.
Madison County was a little better, at 41 percent, while statewide cards were turned in 37 percent of the time during the four-year period.

FOID fingerprinting would help…but the howls from Eastern Blocers… would be deafening.

A big problem with enforcement is:
1. There is no gun registry (not that I’m advocating for one either); and
2. Not all (but probably most) FOID holders own guns (me included).
So… you can have a gun owner, whose FOID is revoked, own 10 guns, turn in two and say that’s all s/he owns, or a FOID holder whose FOID is revoked not own any guns and have nothing to turn in.

I don’t get it; that’s a lot of revocations.

@Just Observing State law says that the FOID card itself must be turned in to police when it is revoked. It doesn’t matter if they don’t actually have any guns, they’re still supposed to turn in the FOID card.

typical flawed system. From the article …
“People bring their paperwork in here and say, ‘Here it all is, they revoked my FOID card….He estimated about 25% of revocations are in error”

Apparently the so-called “law-abiding gun owners” aren’t so law abiding after all.
