Cullerton says state/city owned casino off table, Fix the FOID still stalled in Senate

Posted in:

* Senate President John Cullerton was asked today about the Chicago casino negotiations and specifically about joint state/city ownership

It’s not about the ownership, that’s not an issue any more. We’re talking about the rates. The tax rates that passed were apparently too high that Chicago may not even get a casino. If that happens, the state loses money.

I think we’re pretty close to a compromise on changing those rates that would result in us being able to pass a bill.

Subscribers know some details of what’s under discussion.

* He was also asked about SB1966, a bill to require fingerprinting of FOID card recipients (among other things) which passed the House in the spring and then stalled in the Senate

We had a very positive meeting on that today with a number of members that are affected. That bill will be in a position to require 36 votes, which I don’t believe we have today.

  2. Central, subject matter hearing only today in Senate. Stalled for now.

  3. Wow Crestwood could have really made a killing on all those red lite cameras that safe speed has in its village. And I’m sure Omar could have used some money for legal bills.

  4. Fix the FOID. How can you fix something that never worked in the first place. The FOID concept does nothing to reduce gun violence.

  5. ==The FOID concept does nothing to reduce gun violence.==

How about making sure the applicant doesn’t have a felony conviction.

  6. “Fix the Foid” by requiring law-abiding Illinois gun owners to send in their fingerprints to the state. Sensitive biometric information. If the state of Illinois can’t even protect sensitive voter information from hackers, how are they going to protect millions of people’s fingerprints? Oh, and the bad guys can still go to Indiana and buy a gun. This is a complete joke.

    NICS already does that.

  8. Just a reminder to folks that 46 states have no FOID equivalent. The FOID has never worked because it is a fundamentally flawed concept.

  9. what a strange world I grew up in.

the govt requires fingerprints to get cannabis, or you’re thrown in a cage.

But buying an assault rifle or .45 handgun does not require fingerprints.

And folks wonder why American kids shoot each in American schools.

  10. The world I grew up in we didn’t shoot each other in school or out. We often took guns to school for rifle team match or to hunt after school.

The guns are the same, something else has changed.

  11. ==NICS already does that.==

If that’s the case, why is there a disclaimer on NICS that reads “state files are not always included in the federal database”?

  12. Is Sandoval involved with any finger printing companies?

I still think any finger printing for FOIDs should be at no cost to the applicant and available at all county sheriff offices. Otherwise, if you make the process too onerous, you will lose compliance.

I’m also curious if this potential ban applies to tobacco products and if it includes menthol. Couldn’t find a draft of the bill.
