Gaming is a plane with no wings and a lot of finger pointing about who built a plane with no [gosh-darned] wings.

…Adding… I’m hearing the city’s police and firefighter unions are “beating down the door” in favor of the gaming bill. That will definitely help. Unions have been a big part of every major legislative success this year.
…Adding… Some language has finally surfaced. Click here. I do not think that’ll be the vehicle used because it’s a Senate Bill in the Senate. They’ll likely use it for a subject matter hearing so they can skip a full hearing if the House passes a bill.
*** UPDATE 1 *** Bad news for Mayor Lightfoot…

Illinois Senate President John Cullerton says the gaming measure can't be passed this week. He says the Senate took over because it "seems to be stalled over in the House." The tax rate for a Chicago casino and the reconciliation fee has changed.

*** UPDATE 2 *** A city hall source tells me they have “multiple partners” working the House as hard as they possibly can to get a roll call taken today. “Hold on tight.” We shall see.

Lightfoot says casino legislation could move forward, even though it failed to pass Senate Executive Committee. Says she spoke to Senate President Cullerton and it is not dead.

I am not suggesting everyone wants to kill Lightfoot’s bill but does not want to be held accountable.
Nor am I arguing it is suffering death by a thousand cuts.
But just in case I want to note for the record that today is the Ides of November.

“not enough time”? I’m pretty sure that if they wanted to get it done by tomorrow, the leaders could get it done. Sounds like Madigan isn’t ready to put votes on her bill.

Calling the bill for hearing is yet another message from the Legislature of “Next time, maybe you’ll work with us”. Whether Lightfoot gets the message is another story.

To update 3:
I am all for putting a positive spin on things, but making the claim that it can still get done in the next 36 hours and essentially sending reporters back to Cullerton to get him either to back-up Lightfoot or force him to say publicly she has it wrong seems like just another piece of evidence the Mayor’s Office doesn’t have their act together when it comes to Springfield.

So its the Mayor’s fault the legislature passed a Casino bill that Governor Pritzker signed that imposes a 72% tax rate on a Chicago Casino?
In its current form it is impossible to find a gaming partner willing to invest in the project because they don’t think they can make any money.
So the police and fire pension funds the casino was supposed to fund will become even more insolvent, because zero tax revenue will be generated.
More idiocy from Springfield on pensions.

For discussion, would anyone bid on the opportunity to have that license? I dunno if the answer is a firm, 100%, no.
Third largest city in America with a gaming opportunity?
